Carnival Horizon

May 2018 - 14 Night Transatlantic Westbound (Barcelona To New York) Cruise on Carnival Horizon

Best Cruise Experience Ever

This was my 25th cruise in 7-1/2 years and this ship was absolutely my favorite. Great free food options to include Guy’s Burgers & Fries - outstanding! I never order hamburgers but had to try them to see what all of the hype was and ended up eating them at least 7 times!❤️; Guy’s Pig & Anchor for lunch; SeaDay Bruch; Pasta Bar for lunch; 24 hour pizza, ice cream and room service; afternoon tea on sea days in addition to the main dining rooms and buffet on the Lido deck! Entertainment from 3D virtual reality rides; IMAX Theater; Movies under the Stars; Dr Suess water park; sky ride; Shows nightly in the theatre and comedy club as well as all sorts of music about the ship; trivia, etc!

Love Transatlantic Cruises

We loved our transatlantic cruise! We had some challenges with handicap/lift/ramp transportation from the pier to the hotel but finally were successful!

MSC Divina

October 2017 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on MSC Divina

Somewhat Disappointing Caribbean Cruise

We were disappointed with the food and entertainment compared to what we've had with other cruise lines. We also brought our family on their first cruise and would have liked them to have had a better food and entertainment first experience.

Norwegian Getaway

April 2017 - 16 Night Transatlantic Eastbound (Miami To Copenhagen) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

Somewhat Disappointing Cruise

This was our 9th cruise with Norwegian and our 1st time we have experienced any issues!  We were disappointed that we had to miss our first port, Ponta Delgada due to high seas but understood.  This however was only the beginning of disappointments we faced.  At next port, Brest France there were issues with the tides interrupting the disembarkation process as the steps had to be moved to a higher floor and there was only one stairway open at a time causing a 2 hours wait in line to get off the ship and then another  1-1/2 hour wait to get back on.  We were then notified that due to some technical issues the ship could not sail at full speed thus causing a delay in our arrival to our next port Southampton.  The ship would be repaired while we were in port; we would stay in port later than scheduled and as a result we would have to skip our next scheduled port Zeebruggee, Brusses, very disappointing.  Additionally, since the UK Immigration Officers were not able to board in Ponta Delgada as scheduled, we would all need to go through the customs process prior to getting off of the boat in Southampton.  This process took another 2 hour wait in line.  Since we bypassed Brussels we arrived in Rotterdam early evening the night prior to our scheduled arrival there. I truly felt bad for the crew as they took the brunt of the frustration from the passengers.  The crew was excellent on this cruise.  As for the ship itself, it was the first time that we'd been on a ship this size and found areas to be overly crowded at times even though we were not at full capacity.  The Atrium area is not large enough for the events held there as they were very crowded and very noisy which made it difficult to communicate with Guest Services, Shore Excursions, NextCruse, etc, which surround this area. O'Sheehans Restaurant surrounds the Atrium on the upper level and due to the noise level it was not an enjoyable area to eat.  The main theatre is not large enough to accommodate the amount of passengers on board thus we needed to find a seat at least 30 minutes prior to any show or presentation.  The other issue we noticed was that the hallways by the staterooms are quite narrow thus if someone is using a wheelchair or other assistive device they cannot get past the cleaning carts of the stateroom Stewards.  As I mentioned previously we were very pleased with the crew and found them to be very friendly and attentive.  We have already booked another cruise with Norwegian.

Cruise tips

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

Beautiful island with lots of activities and beautiful beaches! I had lunch at the Lobster Shack which is available for additional $ but worth every penny if you love lobster as I do!❤️

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

This was only my second time visiting this port which I had previously enjoyed doing an area tour. However, this time I realized that they have an amazing Water Park/Water Experience just to the right as you enter the port that provides all sorts of water related fun and experiences! I recommend checking this opportunity when visiting Amber Cove!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

I have been to this port many times and decided to just walk around the port area checking out vendors, shops, etc. We experienced on/off rain most of the time and I did well avoiding getting wet until I had no other choice but to get back to the ship in time for departure when the skies opened up once again and I got soaked!😂😂😂 Making memories!💕

Grand Turk Island

This port offers great beaches and many water related activities. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t conducive to these types of activities as it was amazingly windy the day we were in this port!😪

Nieuw Amsterdam

Nieuw Amsterdam

Can’t think of anything except that when you sail on a 14-day cruise that is actually two back to back cruises, the menus are the same for the first 7 days as is the entertainment schedule and mostly the same itinerary. This was absolutely fine with us but not with others.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Unfortunately, I didn’t spend much time in this port. Have been there previously and enjoyed a tour of the area.

Mazatlan, Mexico

Beautiful malacon with awesome water access, walkway, etc. Still has a lot of construction going on.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

This is an awesome port! Make sure to take a boat ride around all of the rock formations. There are multiple affordable charters available at the port.

Koningsdam

Koningsdam

Enjoy every bit of it!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

I absolutely love Cabo San Lucas! It’s a beautiful place to stay/visit! Unfortunately our stay on this cruise was much to short!

Mazatlan, Mexico

Did a tour as I wanted to see their progression on their improvements along the Malacon since our last visit there about 4 years ago. Much has been completed but much is still under construction.

Carnival Panorama

Carnival Panorama

Don’t expect the same food or entertainment experience as you had prior to Covid. It’s great to cruise again thus we need to give the cruise lines a chance to recover.

Veendam

Veendam

Review ports prior to sailing so you know what the offer.

Grand Turk Island

We weren’t able to go to this port. We went to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic in its place.

Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam

We took a bus from the ship into town, again to a shopping area. This was approximately 30 minutes each way so gave us a view of the local area. Very poor and run down. Quite sad to see. The other excursions offered from the ship to further areas in Vietnam were too long for us as they were mostly 6-8 hours.

Guam, Mariana Islands

Took a free shuttle from the ship to a local hotel. Took a “ StrollGuam”, like Uber to a locals shopping/eating area which unfortunately almost all businesses were completely closed. I walked several miles along the beautiful coast but again almost nothing was opened. This was on a Sunday. These areas were in pretty rough shape and I did not feel particularly safe walking alone. I had difficulty with phone service but eventually got in touch with my friends who rescued me.

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

Took a $15 round trip shuttle offered by the ship to a local mall. As soon as we got off of the ship we could smell an awful stench coming from the water. The mall was really within walking distance from the ship so not worth the $15 except that it got us around some construction in the area. The mall offered many upscale shops so not of interest. We then walked along the water as that’s what we were directed to to find a “locals” market. We walked to/from the market through a very poor and run down neighborhood. The market was amazing as it contained all sorts of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish many of which we have never seen or heard of. There was also many varieties of rice, noodles and many unknown food items. Unfortunately there were no non food items for purchase.

Honolulu, Oahu

We rented a vehicle with friends thus were able to drive around and enjoy the beauty of the island. Previously we did the Pearl Harbor tour and would definitely recommend that as a must see as well.

Kahului, Maui

We rented a vehicle with friends and thus were able to drive around and enjoy the beauty of this island!

Singapore

Absolutely love this place. It’s extremely beautiful and clean. We’ve taken several tours on the Hop On Hop Off buses; walked quite a bit and had several local meals. It’s extremely safe and everyone is friendly. We’re staying in an apartment which is conveniently located to everything!

Carnival Splendor

Carnival Splendor

Enjoy yourself. It’s a comfortable size and is headed into dry dock so will have new offerings available.

Carnival Fantasy

Carnival Fantasy

Don’t expect to have a refrigerator in your room. Apparently they do have a few that are given out on a first come basis!

Cozumel, Mexico

Really nice port with lots of opportunities for enjoying the water and nature!

Mobile, Alabama

Does not offer alternative less expensive parking. Some hotels in the area do offer free cruise parking with an overnight stay. The port parking is $20 per day.

Norwegian Star

Norwegian Star

Very acessible for wheelchair bound!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Loved it! Seems fairly new area around the port - clean and safe. Took a local boat tour ($15) and it was awesome! Went all along the rocks; stopped at a small beach, around the "Arch" into the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California); saw lots of colorful fish in the crystal clear blue water and also a number of sea lions!

San Francisco, California

Loved San Francisco! We went down to the Fisherman's Wharf and had some really fresh seafood. We took a boat tour which took us under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. Very friendly, clean city. Stayed at the Hotel Majestic which is a historical building with great architecture! Used Uber to get around - very easy

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Loved Puerto Vallarta! Took a taxi to the Malicon (Boardwalk). One side of the Malicon is lined with shops and restaurants and the other along the Pacific. Great walking with beautiful scenery!

Manzanillo, Mexico

Nice port. Stayed around the port area and did quite a bit of shopping - great prices!

Mazatlan, Mexico

Loved it! Very beautiful with a great amount of new construction going on all along the Malicon (Boardwalk). We took a local tour in a Pulmonia - open air vehicle made by Volkswagen - would highly recomment!

Grand Princess

Grand Princess

See my comments regarding the DaVinci dining room!

Miami, Florida

Busy area. Been there several times previously so didn't do an excursion.
