Cruise tips
Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.
One of a few ports where you can wander on your own. Just to the left outside the port area is a decent free public beach. The chair and umbrella rental will cost $30 for the day. The sand was good but there were many rocks and boulders at the shoreline which had a level of difficulty getting into the water. There were lots of seashells and seaglass right at the shoreline. Further into town, there were plenty of vendors selling the usual tourist junk and there were lots of restaurants and bars to stop and get some local provisions.
Took an excursion to Valley Church Beach. The shuttle bus ride took you through the countryside for 40 minutes before arriving at the beach which had a very local vibe. The beach had white powdery sand and lots of little seashells. The water was clean, clear, and calm. One small shack for food and drinks. Jet ski rental available from the locals. Expect to be asked 100 times if you want to buy some jewelry or beach cover-ups.
Took an excursion to Harbour Lights Beach. Well organized and safe. A little crowded but not over crowded. The sand is white and powdery. The water is cool, clean, and very calm. No seashells or seaglass. Nice vendors for food and trinkets. Fresh cut coconuts with water and rum for sale. Great showers to rinse off before returning to the shuttle bus.
Industrial port so you need a ride share to get into town. too far to walk

Explorer of the Seas
Bring metal straws as the paper ones fall apart too quickly in drinks.
Wonderful port where there is plenty to see by walking into town. Nice stroll to the shore where there are cool rocks and great places to take scenery pictures.
Had a great lobster roll just near the port. Enjoyed walking off ship through the market next to the terminal to buy T shirts. Town is quiet and it has a pretty waterfront area.
Great port where there is great places to eat, shop and sight see. Tender port but short ride.

Independence of the Seas
Bring metal straws as the paper ones fall apart in frozen bar drinks.
Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida
This is an industrial port and you cannot walk into town from here. Allow extra time to get back into the port with the enhanced security.
