Where is everyone?

I saw that on the news last night! My son was in awe and just didn't understand how rain could make that happen. He is 6 and is just now understanding natural disasters etc.. Hopefully what is brewing in the Atlantic and Gulf don't head y'alls way, or ours!

All quiet on the eastern front.

She moved a bit westward and devastated NOLA. Much rain here north of Gulfport. Hwy 26 near me washed out and numerous cars drove into the sinkhole in a driving rainstorm at 10PM. Two deaths and 7 injuries. See Nat. News story on this.

Otherwise all ok with us.

We don't keep gasoline on hand because of the short shelf life and how it can damage small engines. When the hurricane is over, we'll dump it in our vehicles and burn it up.

Foodstuffs, TP., etc. we already have on hand in good supply. We just went in to get a few bananas and misc. items.

Bottled water we don't do. Why pay a big company to put tap water in a plastic bottle for you? See consumer Reports story on this. We distill our own water at home and know for certain there are no shenanigans in what we have. After the initial cost of our distiller, we pay essentially nothing for our pure water.

Also, did you know that autism is caused by the pregnant mother's exposure to excessive plastics during pregnancy. ( Ask my DIL about my grandson). That's not a very good testimonial for drinking water out of a plastic bottle (which ironically is purported to be healthier for you).

Then there is the massive pollution of our oceans because of all the plastic in the seas.

Don't mean to get on my soapbox here because I am hardly an environmentalist, tree hugger, or Vegematic fanatic. I just think it's important to get facts and be informed and maybe take another look at options available.

BDRebel: I do see your point though and you present a good suggestion on preparedness

before a natural disaster occurs. By whatever means, that is most important.

That's true no matter where you live. Because of major snow storms we try to always have necessities on hand. When the shelves were cleared our at the beginning of the pandemic we were still in "Winter" mode and had most of the things we needed. It never hurts to have a little extra. We had enough to help a few others.

When I lived in a hurricane prone zone, I found it much cheaper and easier to stay stocked with the necessities ( toilet paper, bottled water, canned foods) throughout the year rather than trying to stock up as the hurricane approaches - the items are stocked and they aren't gouging on the price.

Thank you and our Aunt Pinkie for your concern. We just drove in to Wally World and filled up our gas jugs and truck. Then went inside to pick up a few things. It's a zoo! Many shelves are bare this early AM. Long lines for gas already and it will get far worse later in the day. Glad we got it done early.

All quiet right now but come Sunday, Ida is coming to visit us and I hear she is mad as ....

They are predicting a direct hit on the anniversary of her sister Katrina's visit. Ida's intensity may be as great or greater than Katrina. They are predicting a 7' to 11' tidal surge.

Katrina was my first hurricane. I took a direct hit. No fun but I survived.

This site rocks. Great people having a pleasant time sharing an addiction.
