Same here. We will be going to Tortola for the first time in Feb. But back in the day when we always got off the ship, Ocho Rios was the absolute worst, no contest. It is unfortunate, because it has Dunn's River Falls, which is worth the trip. It was like running a gauntlet trying to get through the vendors. They weren't even polite, like they could badger you into buying something.
Tortola is nice but as with all the islands it too can have it's bad side. But there is a ferry to Virgin Gorda and most cruise lines have a group excursion that takes it and goes to the Baths. That one is well worth the trip.

This is one of the few times a 3 year old thread has "come back" by virtue of an honest reply. And Im glad it did. I actually took a few minutes and scanned a lot of the replies. We might be accused of sailing the Carib too much, and so theres no real reason to get off the ship anymore. We've found many of the ports mentioned are nothing but meccas for people harassing the touristas coming off the cruise ships. And now unfortunately, you'll get to see a lot of devastation depending on the island you're at. We have seen the usual attractions by virtue of ships excursions, and so we tend to stay on board too, except on rare occasions we get off to stretch our legs on piers that seem to be getting longer and longer hehehe...but yes, staying onboard when at least half or more of your fellow travelers are gone is, well, you have to experience it.

Dominican Republic. Likely to be robbed or mugged.
Dominican Republic. Can be dangerous walking around on your own. Robbed or assaulted.

We had an awful experience in Antigua. We were hounded to the point of intimidation, offered to buy drugs by numerous different people, even though we were walking around with our two young children and you'd assume that's not the demographic to say "yea sure I'll buy the cocaine," and I literally caught a guy trying to steal from the backpack on my husband's back. The beach/water was gorgeous, but I don't think we'll ever get off in Antigua again - just enjoy the empty ship.

Since Carnival went wimpy on shore excursions on motorcycles, Cozumel is the most boring port to us. Pictured here is Carnivals last motorcycle excursion in Cozumel.(we were on Conquest) We HATE beaches and water sports. We live 6 miles from the beach, and salsa, etc. we get that all the time in TEXAS, so we stay on board.
