Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the worst port of call in the Caribbean and why they think that?

We were not enthralled with Jamaica. Neither of us enjoy being hounded to buy something or for a hand out. As a result, we no longer get off the ship in that port.

I agree with you on Jamaica. My wife, being blonde and fair skinned was told by one of the tour guides not to leave my side, or "They will take you". Umm yeah, where is the ship?

Actually staying in an all inclusive hotel in Jamaica is absolutely wonderful but of course they are all in gated complexes. Going out on your own even to the local shop for cigarettes was sort of interesting. You certainly had to be aware of your surroundings and what was going on. Taking a tour to the local market was as described by Cruising CM and Askeegan, in that you were hounded as soon as you got off the coach and virtually manhandled by the store keepers to take you to their stalls. However, Dunns River Falls is an experience that I am pleased I encountered and conquered.

Glad to hear that Dunns River Falls is worthwhile. We will be hitting this port for the first time in January and have already booked that particular excursion.

Just remember to wear some proper water shoes and take a few dollars (difficult to keep them dry) to tip the guides who are very helpful in guiding you up the waterfall

I have done the Dunn's River Waterfall and it was fun. The guys who help you are strong and careful. You will enjoy it.

I stopped in Jamaica recently & didn't have any problem at all but I wasn't too excited about the port of call. I took a ship excursion and did not go off on my own. I understand St Kitts has problems with locasl commiting crimes against tourists and the local police are less than helpful so be careful there, too.

We had a great time at Dunns River Falls!

I agree Dunns River Waterfall should not be missed, we really enjoyed it. I think you need to be careful and aware of your surrounding in every port. St. Kitts is a port of call with next cruise - thanks for the heads up.

I had no problems in Jamaica. I couldn't do Dunn's River Falls because of an ankle injury.
