Manager of Network Engineers at a large ISP. I love cruising, a week away from it all to decompress is what I need.

All around good cruise

Overall, I really enjoyed this cruise. It was laid back and fun. They did run out of my husband's beer on the 2nd day and the blackjack tables had a high minimum in our opinion, but we had a blast and really enjoyed ourselves.

Norwegian Pearl

November 2017 - 9 Night Western Caribbean (New Orleans Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Pearl

Smaller Ship, but still plenty to do.

Overall a good cruise, it is not one of the huge ships which has its advantages and its drawbacks. I do like the design of the pearl with the open dining in the aft of the ship. I would do this cruise again and probably will do similar ones, as New Orleans is the closest port to my house.

Cruise tips

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

We took the Rebel Yell out to White Bay and Soggy Dollar Bar. We had a blast, they have games and bars all on the beach and we had a blast. I recommend this excursion and will probably do that again if we go back here. I wish we had more time.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

This is NCLs private island, and since the food and drinks were included I gave them 4 stars. It is a nice little island, but pales in comparison to Royal Caribbeans island which is within view of the beach. We had a good time swimming around the bay and the beach was clean but rocky. We did get snorkel equipment and did a little snorkeling but there is not much to see here.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We did a snorkel tour (Twice as Nice on the Stars and Stripes) and really enjoyed our trip. This snorkel trip include two stops. First was to a sunken ship which was really cool to see, then we moved around the island and swam with some sea turtles and the small reef there. This trip hit 3 of the most common reasons to snorkel. We did not have time to really see the port as we did not have a full day at this port. We had to walk the length of 3 huge cruise ships to get to our catamaran, and the shops were not along this path.

Port Canaveral, Florida

This port is designed well, and our emabark and debark was smooth. Will look to leave from this port again. We did not take an excursion, but we did eat at Fishlips and recommend it. We stayed at the Raddison at the port and it was close and a nice place to stay. We rented at car through Alamo and that worked out pretty good, although these were the longest lines stood in all week.

Check out Spice H2O early, it is a great place to hang out. Also, the thermal spa is worth the money.

New Orleans, Louisiana

I do not care for New Orleans, but if you like this type of location it does have plenty to do. The zoo is pretty awesome.

Cozumel, Mexico

We did the Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park through NCL, and had a blast. This was a full day of fun. We arrived at the park via taxi, then went snorkeling, food demonstration, tequila tasting, and a sea lion show. There was also an area to swim with dolphins but we did not do that.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We took the Gumbalimba Park excursion and loved it! It was kind of rainy so we almost didnt go, but glad we did. The park is an awesome experience. You get to see the native flora and fauna and they have a museum type section that is set up with all sorts of insects and pirate history. Then you continue walking and you get to the rope bridge...or you can take the chicken path....then you see beautiful wild Macaws and other birds caged. Then you get to the monkeys! these guys are so much fun. They jump from person to person and just have fun. I would visit this site again in a heartbeat.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Absolutely loved this island and would love to go back. We did a land and sea excursion and it was a full full day. We boarded a bus to the turtle farm, got to see lots of great turtles and even had a chance to hold a smaller one. We then took at trip to Hell, this place is quite interesting but once you have seen it once no need to go back. It is a section of coral that looks like lava and was impressive to see. So recommend going at least once, plus you can send a post card from hell. We then left and went to board the board to sting ray city. This was so awesome. The water is only about waist deep and the sting rays are so huge. You get to feed them and get several photo ops. We then headed back to the pier and didnt have much time to do any shopping as this is a tender port. Our driver gave us an excellent tour as we drove around the island.

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala

The landscape here is breathe taking! But there is not a ton to do here. There is a little market at the port but it is mainly a industrial port. We decided to do a resort excursion that was supposed to include horseback riding, but that portion was cancelled. So, we boarded our boat and headed to the resort Amatique Bay Resort & Marina. It was a bit cold, but we enjoyed ourselves and got in the pool anyways. Had fun at the swim up bar and they had dance lessons. The "beach" section of the resort was a bit questionable in the colder weather do we did not go in the water there, but the views were amazing. They also had a little walk through garden with some beautiful flowers. I am not sure I would do this one again.

Harvest Caye, Belize

EXPENSIVE! This is their private island and has Jimmy Buffet's Landshark, so the drink pass does not work there and everything is pricey. The pool here is amazing and also has a swim up bar. The beach here was pretty and we enjoyed a beach day.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Love this place. The water here is so blue and I took advantage of this and went snorkeling. The crew was awesome and had a pirate theme. The water is so clear and the reef is so close to you. They even found an old lobster shell on our trip. The port itself has so much to do now. There is a animal trek, tons of shops, artists, massages, and even a swim with dolphins section. There really isnt a beach at the port, but they do have chairs and hammocks you can relax in.

Harvest Caye, Belize

This I'd a nice island beach stop but be expected to pay top dollar for everything. The drinks were good at the swim up bar and the pool is amazing. Also has lots to walk around and look at from animals to plants to shopping.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We have been to Roatan a few times and have enjoyed each trip One must do is Gumblima park. It is so much fun interacting with the monkeys and the macaws. There is alot to do and you can make multiple trips to see the monkeys if you want to. Another recommended excursion is the jolly Rogers snorkeling. The water is so clear and the reef is so close. It was amazing. They also served food and rum drinks on the way back to port. The catamaran was clean and an excellent ride to and from the snorkeling site. The port itself has a few restaurants and shopping.
