Adventure of the Seas overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 9, 2020

Designed with the active traveler in mind, Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas offers a wide variety of innovative onboard experiences. From its signature rock-climbing wall, which towers 200 feet above the ocean, to its 9-hole miniature golf course, this Voyager-class ship appeals to vacationers looking for a cruise experience jam-packed with action and excitement. Thrill-seekers can get their hearts pumping on the dual-racing waterslides or catch a wave in the surf simulator, then rejuvenate with a relaxing session in the ship's full-service Vitality Spa or indulge in the luxurious champagne bar.

Having first set sail in November 2001, Adventure of the Seas remains one of the larger ships cruising today, measuring over three football fields long. In January 2018, Adventure underwent an extensive revitalization. The month-long refurbishment added new staterooms, a VIP Suite Lounge and the Izumi restaurant, which serves Japanese cuisine and sushi. Coming up in 2021, Adventure of the Seas is scheduled for additional modernization through Royal Caribbean’s $900 million Royal Amplified effort, which will create additional amenities, such as an escape room, laser tag, and Sky Pad, a virtual reality trampoline experience.

The ship now boasts 1,557 staterooms, supporting up to 3,114 passengers. Many of its staterooms include ocean views, and over a third have private balconies where cruisers can enjoy the salt air. With home ports in New Jersey, Fort Lauderdale, and Quebec City, Adventure of the Seas offers cruises with stops in the Caribbean, Bermuda, and Eastern Canada, depending on the season. The Caribbean itineraries also feature Royal Caribbean's exclusive Perfect Day at CocoCay, which allows travelers to customize their onshore experience on Royal Caribbean’s popular private island.

Before you book

Why sail Adventure of the Seas: Families with teens and older kids, energetic couples, and extroverted multigenerational families are the best fit for this active at-sea experience.

You should know: Adventure of the Seas is actually somewhat “small” compared to newer Royal Caribbean ships, but it may be difficult to find a quiet, out-of-the-way spot with over 3,000 passengers on board. And while you can lounge around the pool all day on a Royal Caribbean ship, Celebrity and Princess ships are better for low-key cruisers who don’t need rock-climbing walls or surf simulators.

Average mid-prices cruise by Edzone

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas

This cruise was selected by us because of the Aruba stop. It had 4-Sea Days and 3-Shore Days. This was our 20+ cruise, I would rate it as average. We did purchase Internet and the 3-day specialty dinning. We also got to see a night rocket launch which was really cool. For the price paid with was a good value cruise.

Small ship with not a lot to do onboard. Entertainment was ok. The ice show was fantastic and the welcome and final shows were great. The rest were so so.

My tip: go to the sauna and the steam room as much as you can. Both are free and make you feel great.

The Hot tubs in the adult pool area are quiet and not busy in the evenings! Grab a free icecream cone by the main pool during the afternoon!
