Excellant srvie and entertainment as usual by Cruiser485

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Great entertainment in the theater and also the Centrum.

Our cabin boy did an excellent job.

Dining room service as also excellent.

Even though we loved the Explorer of the Seas, We would definitely go on the Grandeur of the seas again.  The Baltimore port is very convenient to get to.

Overall an enjoyable cruise by perrydmd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The grandeur is a small older ship.  The size allows you to get around easily with in the ship as well as getting on and off.  Being an older ship the Grandeur has seen better days.  The ship looks a little worn but very clean.  I don't think the mattress have changed since the ship's initial sailing.  What shines on this ship is the staff.  Our wait staff was the best I have had on a cruise and I have cruised alot.  The mattress on our bed was killing my husband's back when I complained the matter was quickly resoved.  My only problem with my cruise was that we had  a charge on our bill for the mini bar.  We did not have enough time to dispute it since you only get it in the morning you disembark and we were the first ones off.  My suggestion is to request it be removed when you first get on if you don't plan to use it.  It just takes up space in a small cabin.  The only other compliant I had was with the crown and anchor society.  The perks at the gold level I have no interest in except the two drinks for one offer which I saved for the last night because it was my birthday.  The bartender was very rude and and believing I had already use it.  He was the only rude staff  I encountered everyone else was friendly and helpful.  All in all a very enjoyable cruise.

wonderful time by n3emq

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a wonderful time on our 10 day trip on the Grandeur of the Seas.  I can not give the wait staff in the dining room enough accolades to equal the impression they made on us.  The room attendant was more than willing to work to our schedule, e.g. sleep late futz around until even later then food and party.

The shows were wonderful, as someone who enjoys entertainment I thoroughly enjoyed the work the young entertainers put into the shows.  The music,  singing and activity of the dancers made me exhausted just sitting in the audience.  This may not be Broadway but I can assure you that some of the actors may have a career in the legitimate theatre.

The food was excellent, regardless of any negative comments you may read, everything was well prepared and presented.  I particularly liked the portions, I left the table full but not bursting from overeating, and if you wanted to b a glutton, well seconds were perfectly acceptable.  If you want to compare fine dining to the dining room food try Chops, which could compete with any upscale, landside steak house.  My favorite extra was breakfast delivered to your room at your designated time.

The ports of call were well chosen except for Labadee, who needs a beach resort to drain your pocketbook of a few extra coin.

My biggest negative...get rid of the electric carts on board!  As a life safety professional, these have become a major threat to evacuation and passage of normal traffic in pedestrian areas.

In summation, a right sized ship, an "exceeds expectations" staff and (as I titled this review) a wonderful time.

Jim and Judy's Review by chesapeakebay55

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great sunsets and sunrises from balcony between trips to the pool and bar! Disappointed we couldn't moor in Grand Cayman, but the crew really hustled to keep us entertained. Weather prevented a lot of our shore excursions but we met some great, strange and interesting shipmates along the way. The Chef's Dinner will be a must for all our future cruises...outstanding food matched to great wines matched to or facilitated great conversations with new friends. WiFi is way too expensive for the quality of the signal and availability of service. Avoid the drink packages until you can gauge the pace of your consumption.Love The soda package may be a good deal if you can locate the few (1) soda machine! Recent release movies were a pleasant surprize.

Our servers Kirk and Stanislav for dinner did everything one could expect to make our meals an experience we'll always remember, Breakfast in the Main dining room was ably managed by Owen. Our Stateroom attendant, Collins, was always available for our needs and ICE. Our experience with the crew was nothing short of amazing. Thanks for a great if truncated voyage!

Small but fun by Cruiser255

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Grandeur is one of the smallest ships from Royal Caribbean.  That made it much easier for me to go from one end of the ship to the other without having to stop to stretch my back or catch my breath.  The waiters were excellent.  Our room steward worked around our crazy schedule of being in and out of the room.  The shows, comedians, singers, magicians were very entertaining.  Received a massage that was very relaxing.  Dinners were wonderful.  However, the breakfasts were awful.  The wh.ole crew were courteous and friendly.

Good, restful cruise by eshowman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I always enjoy taking Royal Caribbean out of Baltimore.  The ship is convenient to get to (only a 2 hr drive) and easy Port access.  The ship is smaller than the Meg Ships which means less people, can get under the bridges in Baltimore and more locals take this cruise.  The food was delicious, shows fantastic (although when seeing the headliner didn't know what to expect) they were great.  This was a ten day cruise and the weather not the best one stop had to be eliminated due to rough seas for tettering to port. We still had a relaxing time with friends and met some very nice people.  The ship is very clean (crew always cleaning or painting) and keeping germs away with sanitizer everywhere you went keep everyone healthy. Announced this ship will go into dry dock early 2018 and RCI is no longer building smaller to med ships only mega ones for the younger passengers.  Most everyone were retirees and we all like the smaller ships and not so many people.  Hope RCI will consider this clientele since we can travel all winter and not just when school is out.

Lacking Grandeur of the Seas by jrocco50

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Sadly this would rate as the worst cruise experience I have had to date. The staff was excellent and the friendships made enjoyable but that is where the highlights end. The overall experience was extremely lacking. On the entertainment side the energy level was at an all time low. There were a few instances when the younger cruise manager, as he was called, was given the lead and he was able to bring the party level up closer to what is my normal cruise expectations. Generally on this particular cruise the entertainment was geared toward the most senior cruisers. One of the activity events was actually "Quiet zone". I didn't check it out but I'm guessing it was probably similar to library time where you can sit around and read a book in total silence as was the case in many areas of the ship. The weather didn't help either as it was high winds and overcast for a good portion of the cruise. The most desirable stop, Grand Cayman, had to be eliminated due to rough seas and high winds making tendering impossible. This was another event handled poorly on the ship. Having knowledge the night before that porting wouldn't be possible the crew waited until 10 in the morning when everyone had gather to disembark to announce the change. Even Ladadee couldn't be experienced to its fullest due to the winds and light rain. All in all, had this been my first cruise ever it would have also been my last.

A Pleasant Experience by frann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My only complaint is that the weather could have been better. Although I've learned that in life you take the good with the bad and honestly a little rain hasn't spoiled me yet. nor did it spoil my cruise experience. The days were pleasant and the nights entertaining.  The food was good and the servers exemplary.

Baltimore Caribbean Feb. 21-Mar. 3 2016: Good times....again! by DiamondClubDiva

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

As Crown and Anchor members, we had an extremely easy and quick embarcation in Baltimore.  This year, we tried the champagne brunch and 3-meal specialty package and the pasta making class at Giovanni's Table, all fabulous experiences.  Menu and service, room service, and Windjammer fare and service were better than last year.  Disappointed in lack of coordination between event start times and what were posted in the Cruise Compass -- too many discrepancies.  On-board entertainment was so-so.  Warning to shoppers in Falmouth, Jamaica: do not assume that sale signs in port shops are the real prices of items that are not really marked down.  Got ripped off at Falmouth Trading Post, as did others on our cruise.  Had an amazing time, even though the weather didn't cooperate.  Would definitely make this an annual trip with varied itinerary, as it's so easy to board in Baltimore!Happy

Nice Cruise by kbeckman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I am partial to Royal Caribbean- they always do a nice job and the staff are very warm and friendly. Leaving from Baltimore is easy and often the cruises are a bit less expensive. This is a nice itinerary and we enjoyed the trip with a few notes to follow:

Positives- The staff -with special Kudo's to Meghann in the Spa, Antia and Allewynn in the Dinning Room, and Peter in Housekeeping.

The ports (Cape Canaveral, Coco Cay, Nassua, and Key West) were good places to visit.

Not As Positive- More Tenders needed for Coco Cay. The tenders to Coco Cay got backed up immediately and the wait time was bad. The weather turned and we never made it to the island since they were so backed up and then stopped taking people over.

Drink prices have increased. A glass of wine with the mandatory gratuity ended up being $17.00- that's crazy.

Time in port for Key West was very short- 11:30-4:30.

This was my second time on Grandeur...My 1st was a disaster.I said I would not sail on her again.Well I did and happy I did if I had rated this ship from my first experience I would have given it 1 star after this cruise I give it 4 stars and we also booked another 12 Day Caribbean cruise on Grandeur next March 2017.My favorite ship is the Explorer but being so far away from New England area I will sail on the Grandeur again.

The Grand Old Lady is Just Old by mdwadleigh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Aside from the excellent service and some entertainment, the trip was not memorable in a good way. Shore times were brief, excursions expensive, and unless you were traveling with children (this cruise boasted 421) there was no respite.  We have always sailed with Royal Caribbean, and will again but not during the northeast spring break.

I was very excited about my wife and I on our first cruise, our cabin was small and cramped,we had no window which i regretted, the food was ok,we ate ate at 1 specialty restaurant which was good, the buffet was ok,the main dining area was good,i didn't like the dress codes (like the're trying to impress someone.the waiter came to my wife after dinner and told her that i shouldn't wear shorts,i asked him why he was telling my wife instead of me.(i was standing next to her).the first stop at labadee is.was a joke we couldn't get water unless we bought it,the bartender gave us cups of ice. They are constantly trying to upsell us on everything from artwork to restaurants,it was fun,but i think we'll stick to all inclusive islands were everything is included.

my cruise by jredman046

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I do not think I will take a cruise from Baltimore anymore because it was a waste of 5 days traveling in the cold weather--the ship is smaller than I am use to so there are not as many activities as I would have liked--I requested when I first got on the ship not to put my gratuities on my sign/sail card--it took 3 days until they finally removed them after I went to the service desk daily--I had pulled up a picture of my cabin 7561 and it was different then the cabin I had--when I reported this to the guest service desk they said it was probably a picture from another ship, but I told them that it was of this ship and my exact cabin number--I booked 3 excursions while on the ship and for one of them I  was refunded $10 of the cost because it did take me to where it was --El Murro (spelling) castle--it was suppose to go there and it said in the paper--get your cameras ready--for what, all I could see was a grassy hill--the driver did not get close enough for anyone to see or get a picture--I was charged for a can of soda that was in the cabin that I did not drink (I bought the soda package and was using my cup the whole time from the soda machine) --I did not realize this until I was off the ship and looked at my statement--on the plus side, I did enjoy the shows at night--the sea trek excursion I took was wonderful and well worth the money--the captain  did a very good job of keeping us out of a storm as --much as he could --it was a little rough at times and when I was in the main showroom the floor was actually vibrating ---RC sent everyone an email to give comments and I did but I have not heard anything from them and do not expect to--

Great Cruise, great crew and New Friends by BarbC2015

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Had a wonderful time.  The cruise was great and the crew very attentive and helpful. A couple of things kept it from being a 5; the stateroom was in need of refurbishing, the drawers stuck and one of the side mirrors on the vanity had to be wedged shut to keep it closed.  We met many interesting people and enjoyed the entertainment, especially the comedian headliner.  He was great!

A Grand Time by Cruiser378

All ports provided great warm weather...ship, although older, has it's own personality.  We had a marvelous time with a dedicated crew and happy passengers.  One of the best cruises we have ever experienced.  We stayed on for the Bahamas cruise following this one.  We love this ship and crew!

My Grandeur Trip by skyflakez

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is a cruise with 5 days at sea.  I like sea days because it gives you a chance to relax and focus on things on the ship without rushing about to see the destinations.  We did have some rough seas, but our captain was able to avoid a major storm and they gave us updates when necessary.

Activities were limited.  I think too many seminars to sell you things.  I liked the trivia games and the entertainment.  Was hoping for more group dance classes.  Games and classes on this cruise focused more on an older crowd.

Shows were excellent.  I can't say enough good things about their entertainment.  They also showed movies on board.  The movies were also on the pool deck screen but when it's too cold to be outside nobody watches them.

Gym is small, that's because it isn't a big ship.  But with an older crowd there was frequently room.  Fitness staff were very good, although activities were limited.  Rock climbing wall was a nice addition, except it was mostly closed when windy or too cold.

Crew and staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.  A++ to them.  I saw constant work and cleaning on board the ship.  Hard working crew.

Food was very good.  Lots of choices.  Three specialty restaurants and they were all excellent.  Food in the dining room as well as dining in the windjammer were very good, IMHO.

This cruise is geared toward 70-90 year olds by Shazaaaam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The reason we chose this cruise was out of convenience because we could easily drive to the port of Baltimore.  What we did not realize was that we would be in the minority age bracket for this cruise.  Over 80 percent of passengers on this cruise are between the ages of 70-90 years old.  The reason for this is that most of them are unable to fly due to their aging conditions and the port of Baltimore is convenient to drive or get assistance to the port.  The majority of passengers on this cruise use canes, wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and many of them carry oxygen tanks.  While I applaud them for traveling I caution young-middle age people - you will be in the minority age bracket and all activities on board are geared toward people that are between the ages of 70-90 years old.  This cruise is geared toward aging and disabled people.
