Voyager of the Seas overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 9, 2020

Like all of Royal Caribbean’s ships, Voyager of the Seas was designed for active travelers. Boasting many of the cruise line’s signature amenities, including a 40-foot rock-climbing wall and the FlowRider surf simulator, the first Voyager-class ship can keep cruisers of all ages busy.

For adults, Voyager of the Seas’ Solarium is an indoor/outdoor retreat, which includes a kid-free lounge and several pools and whirlpools. After dark, adults can grab a nightcap at one of the ship’s numerous bars or dance under the stars at a poolside party. Children ages 3 to 11 will find plenty of organized at-sea entertainment through Royal Caribbean’s award-winning Adventure Ocean program, while teenagers can socialize at the ship’s teen disco or try for a high score at the onboard arcade.

In 2014, Voyager underwent a large refurbishment, which added a poolside movie screen and several specialty restaurants such as Italian venue Giovanni’s Table and Chops Grille, Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse. An additional modernization effort is scheduled for September 2019, when the ship will undergo the multimillion-dollar Royal Amplified treatment, receiving amenities such as an escape room, laser tag, and SkyPad, a state-of-the-art virtual reality bungee/trampoline experience. The ship will also receive two additional bars: The Bamboo Room and Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade.

Voyager of the Seas itineraries

Voyager of the Seas’ itineraries takes it to some of the most beautiful places on earth. In 2019, the ship will sail out of Singapore, Hong Kong, Miami, and Sydney, with destinations in Asia and the South Pacific including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, New Caledonia, and the beautiful, uninhabited Mystery Island.

Before you book

Why sail Voyager of the Seas: Voyager of the Seas appeals to travelers looking for big ship amenities without the overwhelming size (and higher price tag). It offers passengers many of Royal Caribbean’s most popular onboard activities, including a surfing simulator and full-size ice-skating rink, but with fewer crowds and none of the navigational difficulties of a huge vessel.

You should know: While Voyager of the Seas offers plenty of amenities, it doesn’t include the sheer variety of activities, dining options, and nightclubs that its larger sister ships do. The Royal Amplified refurbishment in September 2019 will close the gap, but passengers seeking a true mega-ship experience may prefer the fleet’s newer Oasis-class vessels.

Older Ship by Rrussell61

Ship: Voyager of the Seas

This cruise was not my favorite. The room wasn't a good choice. The ship has way too much wear and tear. I wasn't impressed with the ports.

Great Time Had By All by WJShipMate

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Voyager of the Seas

All in all we had a great time. The older ship was a great value. You can't beat the value of cruising. We spent less per night on the cruise than a mid-range hotel. Fun Time Had By All!

On all Voyager Class Ships, Bring long pants (socks too!) if you plan on Ice Skating! And, if you drive to the port, bring your Ice Skates too!

Try taking your luggage off yourself on disembarkation day. It was SO much easier for us! We didn't have to wait in a room with a bunch of others for our number to be called. We just hung out in our room till about 9 and got off the ship easily. Didn't have to do any re-packing.
