Yesterday I had my annual Medicare wellness check. The nurse said that at my age I should have a bar in the shower. So I took her advice.

Professor, thank you for some history insights as we approach the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

Edit: I wish history would have been made fun like this when I was in school.

Here are a couple of misnomers and history about the Titanic and large chunks of floating ice :

1) the Titanic was not struck by the iceberg. The Titanic struck the iceberg.

2) an iceberg has no religious affiliation, so, despite its name, an iceberg is not Jewish.

3) the chances of striking an iceberg during your 7 day Caribbean cruise, are nil. But, if it makes you feel better to stand out on your balcony and look for one, feel free.

Some History:

4) White Star Lines, owner of the Titanic, allegedly sent bills to the families of deceased crewmen for failure to return their uniforms.

5) the Titanic had 2 sister ships: the Olympic, which, during the war, ran into and sunk a German sub. And the Britannic, which was supposed to be named Gigantic. She sank during the war after striking a mine at sea.

6) J. Bruce Ismay, Chairman of White Star , survived the ordeal. I guess only the Captain goes down with the ship.

7) there was a J. Dawson on the Titanic. Joseph Dawson worked on the Titanic in the coal room. He is buried in Halifax. Take the tour if you ever take a NE / Canada cruise.
