I would not recommend the Norwegian cruise line to anyone. Did not have a good experience.

Understand the layout of the ship

Don't do it, too many better choices than the joy.

Try the Brewhouse if the Observation deck is crowded.
maladoo
Be prepared for long embarkation and debarkation.
dgmc
Book all activities before you get on the ship otherwise things sell out

If you have mobility issues check your shore excursions to make sure that they are something you can due NCL.com said a shore excursion could be done as a Level 1 but it was a level 2 and a person in our party had to stay on the bus the whole time.
tjacoby
Book your shows and specialty dining early. Tended to book up fast.

Check before boarding if ship was OK to travel especially when ship had Norovirus times 2

Bring some water, don't expect useful Wi-Fi if you get the basic Wi-Fi package,

Enjoy the Observation Lounge its fantastic.

Acquaint yourself with the observation lounge. This is a great escape with awesome views, no waits at the bar, a Starbucks, and always a place to sit and chill. Be prepared to spend more on board than usual. But DO spend the money. Le Bistro, tepanyaki and the American diner did not disappoint. And laser tag, water slides, race track and especially the VR called walk the plank were worth the extra money despite the annoyance of having to pay.

Better for families than couples

Only worth it with the 5 "free” perks.

Definitely check out the Observation Lounge, I enjoyed it...there were two cool days, the Observation Lounge offers comfortable seating at the front of the ship where passengers can look out of the huge windows at the ocean. We still had the day light of the outside but the warmth and comfort of being inside.

Go with the flow, don't let little things diminish your vacation, and don't try to do so much that you exhaust yourselves.

Bring you own plastic straws :)

I understand the Joy is the only ship in the fleet that does not have a Thermal Suite. There is more for kids to do like a water tube, arcade, and laser tag ( at an extra cost) I highly recommend the Vibe deck for privacy and attentive staff. Well worth the cost of $209 for the week. We made some friends there since the same people were there every day.

Be clean in the public areas! Every other day of you life you can be you and do, hygiene wise, whatever you want, but not on a cruise. You’re sharing a living space with thousands of other people and no wants to get sick because you don’t want to take 20 seconds to wash your hands. Also, if you want a reservation at ocean blue, do it as soon as you can!

Be sure to check out everything they have to offer. Tons of activities to participate in
