Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Although my wife and I are in our pre-retirement years, I did not quite expect the overwhelming number (80%) of very elderly passengers.  The positive aspect is there were only a very few children and teenagers aboard, but also only few couples in their 30s - 50s.  We needed a lot of patience with blocked hallways and passageways filled with scooters, walkers, and SLOW movers, but for the most part, we enjoyed our fellow passengers.

Bermuda Cruise Vacationl by franmak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Cruise out of Baltimore was very convenient and boarding was effortless. The cruise on Royal Caribbean was most enjoyable. Our 4th on RC. Will definitely stay with RC. Our wait staff, in the Gatzby dining room, Castillo and Yang were exceptional. People like that is what keeps us coming back to RC.

wonderful service by dunavantjanis

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

The wait staff was great from the assistant waiter to the headwaiter.  The food was excellent and I enjoyed several of the alternative dining options as well. The Izumi sushi restaurant was elegant and delicious.  Chops grill had ege best surf and turf I have ever had. We also opted to have the Chef's table which was wonderful although fairly expensive at $50 per person.

The cabin service was exceptional as well.  Entertainment was superb, among the best I have seen.

Shore excursions were fairly expensive and we missed a shoreexcursion because it left 10 minutes early.

Bermuda was beautiful and never disappoints.

The Windjammer buffet was not as good as it shiuld have been.  No eggs benedict, crepes, few pastries, no donuts.  Needs some work.

The Grandeur is an older ship but was very good in all respects.

Royal Carribean The Only Way to Cruise by dawnspugs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

To date this was our third cruise and second aboard Royal Caribbeans Grandeur of the Seas. We do prefer the smaller cruise ships but one day want to try the big RC cruise line.

We cannot say enough good about the staff, crew, and total ship. Everyone is dedicated to making you feel welcome and appreciated. They go above and beyond to keep you comfortable and happy. Cleanliness can't say enough there either. The entertainment while underway was great. Auctions, comedy, muscial, it's all here. Because of the small size cruise ship it seems you become "family" with other vacationers on board as well.

The captain kept us abreast of weather conditions, times embarking and debarking and how long the estimated time would be to go from port to port. We never felt unsure of any of the staff and crew from the Captain on down.

My cruise line will always be Royal Caribbean until proven otherwise.

Smokey cruise by Raasmith

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Arrival and departure were good, food was great, best value to get the Bar PP package, ship was nice for the size and age of the ship.  Clean.  Waiter and assistant waiter in the main dining room were more than accommodating, Excellent service.  Great personalities and were fun.  Windjammer restaurant was very good with a wide variety of food.  I would like to have had two full days in Bermuda, arriving at 3pm, than one full day and leaving by noon, was just not enough time to explore the island.  Ferry ride to the capital of Hamilton and the city itself were wonderful.

The main problem was smoking passengers, not staying in the smoke areas and the smoke areas themselves were the entire starboard side of the pool deck with no real division, closed off area or proper ventilation. Passengers/Children were subject to the second hand smoke. Going to the pool bar for a drink sometimes meant breathing in smoke.  The Casino was impossible to go to, too much smoke and  even a quick walkthrough had you smelling like an ashtray upon leaving, so we did not use the casino.

We enjoyed the trip, would like to go back to Bermuda, but they really need to fix the smoking.

Worst Cruise I've ever been on by bleporejr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Because of the bed this is the worst cruise I have ever been on.  I'd put their bed in the same class as a cheap hotel and if you don't get a good night sleep a vacation can be spoiled big time.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

Wonderful service, food, entertainment and activities  on the ship. Very pampering.Great organization/timing on and off the ship. one additional day was needed. Read your Itinerary very closely. " We arrived Sunday around 3:00 p.m., where Bermuda business, shops etc. close around 6:00 p.m., Monday is the only full day. Headed back on Tuesday at noon.

Should have better  ventilation, suction system for the smoke in the Casino .

First 2 days were horrible due to weather & cabin site.  Next 6 days were very nice.  Grandeur Staff were all great as usual. Especially our cabin steward.  He went out of his way to make everything as nice as possible.

Not a huge fan by philipmedley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The cruise was a fine experience, but it helped me realize that I'm just not a huge fan of cruises. I completely understand why people like them, they're just not for me.

Loyal to royal by Tammytyler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

This is a older ship and shows in some areas and it's a small ship but I like small. The staff is one of the best we have had over many years of sailing with royal. Would go with this ship and crew.

Small ship with nice appointments by valandlover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

We left Baltimore on an overcast day in September only to be met with rain, high wind and large waves when we got to sea.  It was a rocky sail to Bermuda, where we got in to port about six hours late. (We wonder if the stabilizers in the bow of the ship were working since one night we would hear a noise like a big motor running and the ship seemed to smooth out but when the noise was gone, the rolling was back). Many got sick, including the crew from what I learned.  The crew that was not sick ended up working many more hours than normal and therefore some of the services suffered, mainly cabin maintenance (it took 2 days to get our shower head replaced).  Also, because of the rough weather, the upper decks, pools and rock wall were closed.  They were only open the last day of the cruise.  The crew was mostly pleasant, the meals good and entertainment very good.  Seems there was always something going on somewhere in the ship, even though a lot of the outside activities were canceled.  There was plenty of seating at the pool for everyone (including the last day when most every one was up and about).   Wish we had more opportunity to enjoy the movie by the pool at night.  The embarkation and debarkation was the best I have experienced in many cruises.  Considering the circumstances, we enjoyed our cruise.

Not one of our best cruises. by CoraHarvey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

There was no information on inclement weather going from Norfolk, VA to Bermuda.  8 hours into the cruise we experienced an extremely rough ride, there was no warning about this.  The forward dining room was a mess and very few waiters were around for cleanup.  On the return trip we were told of an impending rough ride and were offered Dramamine like we were going to experience another rough ride.  The return trip was smooth, I am wondering where the bridge is getting their weather information, I don’t get it, they had to know about the Nor Easter.

The next two days the ship had time to clean up from the inclement weather damage but we didn’t see any crew members.  I saw some officers cleaning up on the way back.  I stopped the gruitity myself and others agree that paying for something and not getting what you paid for isn’t right.  We the customer have always tipped accordingly.  If this is going to be the norm it’s unacceptable and several people agreed with us.  The last 5 trips, I noticed a decline in the service and quality of food.

This time we upgraded and spent more money to have a more pleasurable cruise and it turned out to be the worse, excluding the storm.  Some of the food was not as good as before.  What seems to be is their attitude!  Is the smaller ships always a training ship, so we never get seasoned personel.  I know you get a rough ride once in a while and this is one out of 13 so I’m not letting this be a reason to be bitter.  The last cruise 6 day Bermuda we had a good time but we see poor service.

Language was a real barrier with announcements from the Captain.  If there was a real emergency the language barrier would be a real detriment.

First time cruiser disappointment by FirstTimer1331

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

The ship is smaller and older, which meant that there wasn't a lot to do (for anyone between the ages of 20-50) when the weather was terrible and we couldn't go in either pool or even out on the deck.  Most of my disappointment was weather related but this was our first cruise and we spent a lot of time just sitting around reading and relaxing, which was nice, but not what I had expected to do the entire vacation. The outside entertainers were excellent but I found a lot of the cruise-run events to be filled with inappropriate humor, which was disappointing. The accommodations were nice , the service was excellent and we enjoyed the food in the dining room and for the most part the buffet restaurant. The biggest weakness in food was the dessert. They were fancy but not always good.  Dinners were always excellent though and we loved the appetizers. The buffet was always crazy busy with people going in every direction so I found it socially overwhelming but the food was fine. The park cafe food was pretty good and we appreciated that it was open almost all of the time. We would have liked being able to watch more movies but they only ever showed pool side and the weather was so terrible it was impossible to be out there.  We loved Bermuda and despite the weather had a fabulous time there. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer since we weren't able to do anything Sunday because of the weather delay. Overall my husband and I had a wonderful time being alone together and we made the best of the situation but we won't be cruising again anytime soon. I've been telling people the weather was terrible, cruising was nice but not nearly the experience I was hoping for, but Bermuda was amazing and so is my husband.

Excellent experience all around from original booking with <img class='agent-replacement' src='/images/hideagent.png'> until weleft the port of Baltimore. by bobinmd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The title of my review says most of what I felt about this cruise. There were 862 staff on board Grandeur of the Seas. Each and every one of them that we had contact with went above and beyond in their job performance in our consideration. This was the most significant aspect of our cruise in my mind. The weather could not have been better. The four of us ate at Chops Grill twice and truly enjoyed the experience. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meals in the dining room, Great Gatsby.

Our First Ocean Cruise by elliew125

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We were not sure what to expect when we booked our cruise.  The ship met our expectations and exceeded anything we thought about cruises.  The ship was incredibly clean.  The staff bent over backwards to make sure we were happy and pleased and for the most part everyone was pleasant.  The food in the Great Gatsby and the Chops Grille was excellent.  The entertainment was very good.  Our children are going to join us in July 2016 for the Bermuda Cruise out of Baltimore and I am so glad we had an opportunity to experience a cruise.

Great Cruise to New England by eshowman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

This is the second time I have been on this cruise.  Although going to New England in mid September the leave have not yet turned.  The weather was beautiful and the calmest seas ever!  Unlike going to the Caribbean, this cruise is relaxing and the ports are beautiful and have a warm, inviting feeling.  Going in the fall, there are only a few children and the passengers are older.  We had a great time meeting new people and the pool deck was not over crowded (although the weather was warm and great for last minute tan).
