Carnival Conquest by wychewning

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

For the most part, this was a disappointing cruise.

What we enjoyed:

*Seems the only saving grace was that we were able to spend time with our sons and family.

*Once we got ashore, Jamaica and the Caymans were wonderful.

What we found not so enjoyable:

*We have been on many cruises, most with Carnival.  The food preparation on Conquest was the worst yet.  When, after 2 evening meals in the Renoir Dining Room, you make it a point to get a burger at Guy's because you expect mediocrity at dinner, something is wrong.

*We do expect on a large ship that the lines will be long at times.  However, these lines were exaggerated by the poor organization, both onboard and ashore.  For example - it appeared that nobody at the Cayman 'Fleet Landing' either a) was in charge, or b) had a clue what was going on.  This was exasperated by the heat (expected) and lack of facilities (not really expected).

The Dining Room and cabin staffs were wonderful.

We have sailed with Carnival several times.  We are compelled to say that the last 2 trips in particular have lived up to neither our expectations nor Carnival's reputation.

Holley Ayers, our travel guru, was also wonderful!

Lost 4 days by petersorrentino

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

A new low in Cruising. There were too many questionable situations to list. Carnival knows exactly what I'm writing about. Because 70% sail Carnival are uneducated and are easily taken in, your profits are soaring.

I just know this is half way to the trash bin, but  I fill soooo good writing this letter.

Very good 4 day cruise by billkaye

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Good value for a 4 day cruise. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Our cabin attendant, Jose Severino,  was excellent and should be commended for his professionalism and his work ethics. I would also like to thank and commend the staff at the Point Steakhouse. This was one of the highlights of our trip. The service was superior and the rib eye steak, I was served, was one of the best steaks I have had in years. We purchased the "Faster to Fun" option which made both embarkation and debarkation faster than any other cruise line I have been on, including Royal Caribbean as a diamond member.

The only criticism I have is of the main dining. The menus did not offer much, and the food varied from acceptable to poor. There is much room for improvement in that area.

Wonderful vacation by lmramus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I haven't been on a cruise in 14 years and haven't cruised with Carnival before.  I enjoyed the ship, service, and entertainment.  I was disappointed in some of the food.  The first night I order the Salmon in the dining room and it was very fishy.  I didn't order fish again on the trip.  Other food items were good and the crab ravioli was excellent.  Our room steward  (Bernie) was absolutely wonderful.  The room was wonderful.  We had a balcony room with 3 people in it and we never felt cramped.

Good time had by all! by figgy

My wife Vickie and I celebrated our anniversary on this cruise and found the stewards, waiters, waitresses and all on the ship to be extremely customer focused and willing to go the extra mile for us to make sure we were well taken care of.

Thank you for making our anniversary a wonderful memory!

Carnival Conquest is really a fun ship by dbabb38187

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I broke my foot 8 weeks before the cruise and thought i wouldnt enjoy myself. I rented an electric scooter to help move around the ship, and I had a ball. Carnival staff did everything possible to help me enjoy this vacation. I also met many new friends on this adventure. My next cruise will be with Carnival.

Staff is rude, and clueless by Cuetipp

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

From the moment we boarded, we had problems with the staff.  No one knew anything ("hi, which way is our room?"  "ummmm, it might be to the right?  Could be to the left though, not sure") - they didnt know where our room was, and a second staffer actually asked what deck it was on, while looking at our key.  Keep in mind that it SAYS THE DECK ON THE KEY.

Dining staff was - with one exception - VERY slow, and got peoples orders wrong repeatedly (people at the next table had to wait 3x for their correct meal).

Guest services is a joke.  They are all rude, smug, and VERY condescending.  The only apology was when I said I was disappointed with the lack of knowledge on the crew's part.  I was told "Im sorry you feel that way.  i can assure you they know their stuff though".  No, I can assure you, they dont... they dont know the answers to basic questions.

The cruise left about 3 hours late, the only reason given was that "1 indivual is having an issue" - not sure what that means, but ok.  Shore excursions team booked us for an excursion with a completely different name, then tried blaming it on "your pronunciation of that word was weird - the word in question was 'secret', which apparently she likes to pronounce "secrete".  Also, not really the choice of words to use towards a customer.

Anyhow, horrible anniversary because of the crew.  We wont be taking a cruise via Carnival again.  HOWEVER, Our Steward (Hiro, I believe) and his crew were amazing - always friendly and helpful

Carnival Conquest by milliesibbel578

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is one of the smaller Carnival ships.  It is beautifully decorated with the central theme of French artist.

We had corner balcony cabin.  It was a great size with a fantastically large deck!  I would suggest this cabin to anyone that feels that they need a spacious area.

The boat was very clean with the exception of one of the smaller pools.  However, it was drained and cleaned during the voyage.

My husband has already said that he would sail on this boat again.

Great cruise!! by tizzie2362

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

HappyThe conquest is a nice smaller ship. No red frog pub or serenity. This ship could use a makeover it seems to have more child areas than other ships of this size. Food was great and service was over the top!!

disappointed by diedra5280

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I have been cruising on Carnival for 15 years.  It used to be an amazing experience, not only because of the destinations, but because of the service.  the last two cruises I have been on were nothing like that.  The staff just doesn't seem to care, they ignore you at best and are rude at worst.  I don't know what changed this.  The staff in the casino bar were exceptional, they didn't keep you waiting, they were friendly.  At the Cay island, owned by Carnival, people waited way too long for bar service and the starf were clearly overwhelmed.

On our first day off ship, the de-embarkation process was a nightmare.  Hundreds of us were held hostage in a stair well, waiting for a tender to shore.  We waited an hour before any staff even talked to us.  We didn't even know if we were in the right line in the right place.  People were hot and frustrated.  Finally a staff member said they were "waiting for a tender"  She didn't say how long, what the hold up was, nothing.  After another hour, people started shouting, "tell us what's going on>"  She finally said that people wanted to come back to the ship and that was holding them up.  It was raining.  Apparently they have never dealt with rain in the carribean or how to get people on and off the ship.  That used to work like clockwork.  We shouted for the Cruise Director or someone in charge to at least organize the mob and tell us what was going on.  The CD arrived and shouted from the bottom of the stairs where none of us could even see him and said "there's a hold up from people returning, you'll be off shortly."  and waked away.  No apology, no explanation, nothing.  Just didn't care.

I guess I can understand if quality of service just isn't a priority any more, but then the prices should go down accordingly.

Son's 8th birthday/vacation Cruise by lukeandamanda

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My son chose to take a cruise over Disney World for vacation over his birthday which was very surprising to us.  We selected this particular cruise based off of the port stops and not the ship itself.  We also took into consideration that it was Carnival which is more family oriented.  We were extremely happy with our cabin stewards and our dining room staff however the rest of the ship staff was not that approachable.  It appeared they were not happy to be on the Conquest.  It is an older ship so it doesn't have all the upgrades of the newer ships.  I think that the ship staff was getting a lot of grief from the passengers which makes it hard to want to be on the ship.  An example is the satellite in the bar not being able to put on a playoff hockey game.  That is not the bartenders fault but the guest was yelling at him and that's not fair because the bartender can't defend himself.  Maybe Carnival needs to consider retiring the Conquest or doing some upgrades.  I personally wouldn't cruise on the Conquest again because the food selection was boring.  It was the same everyday.  Paul the CD was hilarious!  My son loved Camp Carnival

Great vacation by jonmichele96

We had a blast. Most everything was wonderful. Only problem was the dining hall. It takes way too long to eat and our drinks (water, tea, lemonade, not alcohol) were rarely refilled.

Good time by edwardst02

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The only thing bad about Carnival is they over charge for alcohol.  They automatically add 15% to all drinks for gratuity.   I feel it is my choice to tip a waiter or bartender with out being force to.  And when you go into the main dining room and order a $30 bottle of wine they charge a $10 corking fee to open the wine.  For $10 I can open my own wine.  Also watch you bill.  At the end of the cruise they will add $12 per day per person for gratuity. A total of $192 and if you are not watching it gets added and you have no say.  Had to wait in a long slow line to get it removed.  Most people don't check so they get charged.  Other than that nice time.

ist time Carnival cruiser by daddyatt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Good things: Food was superb. Not everyone agreed with me so I guess I made the right choices in the dining room. Liked the "other" choices like buffets, burritos, deli, and Guy Fieri's burgers. Rooms were adequate with fair amount of closet and draw space as well as space in bathrooms. Plenty of activities for sea days. Entertainment was great including the shows. Staff was great.

Not so good things: Ship departed 4 1/2 hours late due to baggage problems. Unusual long waits to re-board while in port as well as disembarking. It seemed to be very uncoordinated compared to other cruise lines I have been on.

Petty annoyance: Elevators were too far recessed into walls. When the arrival bell sounded it was difficult to see which one of six doors opened.
