A relaxing cruise by Jc41

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The room was comfortable and practical, the partitioned bathroom was very functional. It was easy to navigate around the various decks. The crew was very helpful and polite. I was apprehensive that with the gratuities automatically charged that individual service would suffer which was not the case. The freestyle led to a very relaxed atmosphere as there was no running around having to meet a time schedule. My normal working schedule is very hectic and the last thing I want is a vacation that I am running around to make a dinner sitting etc.

An OK cruise by MargueriteT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

This was our third cruise on NCL and we have decided it is time to step it up a notch next time. The service was very so-so (you had to wait quite a while to be asked if you wanted anything), the food was mediocre at best. We ate at the Steakhouse one night (Cost $20 each) and left half of our filet mignons. Could have gotten much better at Outback.

an awful vacation by SusanH19

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The ship was fine. It was the staff that were not friendly. Did not go out of their way to be courteous or helpful. Would not hav tipped anyone if I had the choice, which I feel is the way it should be done. Why do they need to be accomodating as they get their tip regardless.

A trip to relax by RoxanneE

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

It was nice. But I noticed that the quality of the food and service has decreased in the last couple of years. A lot less workers to provide service. Was missing a lo t of information, because there was no one available to provide this. For example, on the return to New York, there was no one to guide the passangers to where they needed to go, I was sitting at the exit and found myself providing this info to the passengers. There was not even a sign.

New England Cruise by LeeJ

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The cruise started in NY, then one say at sea, Halifax, Bar Harbor, Boston and Martha's Vineyard. The ship was the NCL Spirit and is an older ship. Tipping is automatically applied to your bill and we didn't think the staff was as friendly as they might otherwise be. Food was not as good as other cruise lines and service was slow. In Bar Harbor, you can arrange a tour of Acadia National Park through Oli's Trolleys. It's less expensive and less crowded. When in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, be sure to see the cottages....amazing! We had gone on NCL once before and said not again, but the route and price changed our mind.

A Good Time by DeniseB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

I enjoyed our cruise, but was disappointed that a lot of the restaurants charge for the privilege of eating there. I think all restaurants on the cruise ship should be available to all passengers without charging extra.

Fall Canada/New England Cruise by LindaS28

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

I had read that the ship was old and dirty. It had a beautiful decor and I did not see where it was dirty. It was smaller that the last ones I had been on but I knew that from the start and it was no problem. Actually it was plenty big. Our room steward, Manny, & his helper always kept our cabin clean. My main complaint was the food. The food in the Raffles buffet was not good I did not think. Windows dining room was beautiful and the food was okay. (I had been on the NCL Pearl in the spring and the food was much better). They were not as strict on sanitation as they were on the Pearl. Yes, your hands got sprayed when you got back on the ship in the ports but they were not as strict in the dining room. There was always someone standing at the entrances to the dining room on the Pearl to remind you to sanitize. I appreciated this. When we left the ship for our shore escursion at Martha's Vineyard, they used Captain John's Boat. They crammed as many people as the could on it. It was almost like herding cattle. I did not think this was safe because there were so many senior citizens on this cruise. They had to go up and down these narrow steps to be seated (if you were lucky) and to get off. So many people (seniors included) had to stand up on the boat. My mother can not do narrow steps well and this was very hard for her. I saw lots of others that this was hard for too. I heard other folks complaining about this. The Spirit's tender boats would have been much better---we did do them in Bar Harbor and I have no complains about them. Julie, the Cruise Director, was really good and very friendly. The cruise director that we had on the Pearl came across as arragant. LOVE FREE STYLIN'!!!

Freestyle Cruising on Norwegian Spirit by BrendaW3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

This was my first cruise. I was amazed not to feel much in the way of rocking while traversing the passageways of the ship. It didn't take too long to figure out where things were located on board, (meaning forward, aft, or mid ) but often we questioned which deck we wanted. I know it's not the biggest ship on the ocean, but it seemed very large to me. The theatre itself was two stories high and as wide as the ship itself. The abundance of restaurants was staggering, and everyone on staff was very friendly and helpful. Public bathrooms were kept immaculate and the sheer numbers were comforting.

New England by ChuckF72745133

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The ship itself was nice and the service was good. When I first cruised Norwegian, it was really nice. The food was good, the staff was good. Second cruise, then they started having to pay extra for the specialty restuarants. Then this cruise they had you pay extra for the specialty restuarants, then when you got there, there was an extra charge over the specialty restuarant charge to get the menu you wanted. That amounted to $30 extra per person. If I wanted to pay $30 extra, I could go to a resturant at home and have my choice of resturants. Seems like everything was an extra on this cruise.

Bermuda Cruise by RaymondH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Bermuda

On the whole the trip was very good. I especially did not like the cover charge in certain restaurants and did not like the fact that only one show per day was offered. Other lines have two so late diners could also see the show. Lounge deck chairs were very scarce. I counted 7 on each side of the ship. Some people like to lay and sleep all day in them thereby leaving the rest of us to sit on hard chairs. The Bingo games were a little on the high side to play and the pay-out not reflecting a good portion of receipts. I know this seems like I'm complaining a lot, but the above just bugged me. On the whole the trip was great. Everyone was very helpfull and pleasant. The entertainment we did see was great; but we would have liked to see more. Would I take another cruise on NCL? Not if another line was availailable for the same trip. Hope this helps. Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Hickey

Best vacation ever! by LisaF8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I couldn't ask for a better vacation. This was my 1st time on NCL (I've sailed with other cruise lines in the past) The ship was spectacular. The upkeep was phenomenal. There is always something to do on board- not just for myself, but for the kids (14 & 9) The food was awesome- something for everyone. If you're looking to eat healthy, it's a dieters haven- if you're looking to indulge, enjoy. I've done alot of traveling & have never come across such a wonderful staff. I can't say enough about the hospitality. They really bend over backwards to make you feel good. They seem to really want you to have a great vacation. The ports of call were super. We went to CoCo Beach- & I am a beach lover! The ground transportation was very good. We also went to the Bahamas for shopping-the crew was very insightful on where to go & what to do. And my favorite was the Private Beach. It offered everthing the beach-goer could ask for. My sincere thanks to Cruises Only for recommending NCL's Spirit & their great customer service. Like I said- This was definately my best vacation EVER!!!

A fun time by AprilR2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The ship was gorgeous. The staff was wonderful, and you definately received a lot of personal attention in the restuarants and bars. I wished there were a few more restuarants open late night. I give high marks to the cleaning staff as the ship was always immaculate and my boyfriend commented that they were constantly cleaning it. Our room was always spotless. The shows on the ship were a lot of fun.

Good Cruise, Not the Best We've Been On by CathyM17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Bermuda

This was an older ship which has been refurbished, but it did show signs of wear & tear. I felt the staff was not as attentive as previous cruises we've been on. We felt crowded at the pool area. Very tight space.

Best Ship for Families by MargaretG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We sailed on the Norwegian Spirit and if you have a family this is the ship for you. The Buckaroo area for the kids is awesome. The staff is very willing to try and help you. The entertainment is fun and appropriate for the kids too. We loved sharkbait. The pool is great and we absolutely loved the free dining. I totally recommend the Windows Dining Room. The soda bracelet for the kids ($5/per day) is worth it.
