Breakaway to Bermuda Cruise by bam234

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Overall our family had a wonderful time. Our stateroom was very small for 4 people-(2 adults,2 teens) with the smallest balcony I've ever had on a cruise ship. We've cruised on Disney twice and Carnival and had bigger staterooms/balconies. I chose the Breakaway for all the sports activities and wasn't disappointed. My son practically lived on the basketball court. The ropes course was great, once you got on it. The lines were very long and they needed more staff to get everyone hooked up properly. The trampoline bouncer was only open for 2 hours , 2 of the days we were at sea, long lines, long wait-not worth it. The waterslides were amazing. The menu at Taste and Savor are the same for the entire cruise. it is a very limited menu. The food quality and service was average at best. The food was much better in the Garden Café, where we ate often. We enjoyed all the shows, especially Burn the Floor which we saw twice. This was the first time we DID'NT book off shore excursions through the cruise line because they were so expensive. We used the ferry and public buses to get around Bermuda and it was GREAT!! We saved a ton of $$$. We took a taxi to Horseshoe Bay which was a little pricey, but thought it was worth it because we had our own personnel tour guide.

Beautiful ship, excellent service but overcrowded by BermudaCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Breakaway is a beautiful, brand new and very clean ship. The crew is very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. Housekeeping kept our room very clean everyday. My daughter had a lot of fun playing in the Nick water park area, mini gold and the kids' club. Night entertainment was also pretty good. Shore excursions had very good options. Everything was well organized. I would have liked to see more vegetarian dishes and more healthier options. The boat was over crowded during our week at the end of August. I would have like to travel with Norwegian again if I know the ship won't be as crowded. I would be happy to see destinations such as Galapagos, Fiji, Bali, Fjords, New Zealand, St. Lucia etc. Maybe a more elite cruise offering different experiences ( not the shows like deal or no deal etc) I think the cirque show was very elegant.

First Cruise by cmarshall103

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

This was our first crusise for our 25th wedding aniversery. It was fanastic. the service was wonderful the activitys were almost to many as we found ourselve missing a couple because we had o make a choice. We also learned alot about how to choice our next cruise based on the atmosphere of our trip ex: family ourselves only, with freinds ect. I would highl rate the breakaway to anyone interested in taking a cruise. Our destination was Bermuda but that was no surprise as that is where we took our honeymoon. We already had our activities planed before we choose the ship.

Pay Extra and Make Reservations for Shows by lastnclcruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

This is my 9th NCL Cruise. This is the only one I booked online as the others were directly from NCL. Ship is big, staff is friendly. As on most cruise ships the pool is too small and you need to get a chair by 830am. NCL staff does a poor job at pool. They say they will move towels left unattended but they don't. Water park is fun and lines weren't long, especially Port days. In order to see a show you need to make reservations and I believe this can be done before the sail date. I saw one show as the others were already booked. Only shows available had a cost which is ridiculous!! Second City Comedy show is basically the same show I've seen from them on my previous cruises. Magician/Comedian was FANTASTIC. Cruise director not very good. I tried Cagney's and La Cucina and all I can say is food is borderline. Three main restaurants have same menu every night with a Chef's selection. I had dinner at the buffet most nights. Embarkation/Disembarkation is a breeze. I tried calling for upgrades from NCL prior to sail date. NCL has a policy not to offer upgrades unless you purchased DIRECTLY from them. My status a s a GOLD Latitudes member didn't help me. For this reason, This was my 9th NCL cruise and my LAST NCL Cruise.

Disappointed in the new boat by Illovecruusing

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

I choose this rating due to the amount of money u spent to take this cruise was not up to par with what was expected. There were alot of pros and cons but compared to other norweign s gem jewel for this price and being new the places in the boat were small casino area to wide open machines were double sided and alot of penny slots more variety needed water pressure in rooms was low and the pool area to small no shallow end in pools and the jogging area around the pool to small and dangerous when people getting up while ur trying to run then floor becomes wet so u had to walk most if the time sld of been on the upper deck also done of the areas where they had activities were really small..

Norwegian Breakaway Review by NJSusie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

There were a few annoying things about the Norwegian Breakaway ship. We found it very crowded in certain areas such as the buffet. The buffet is designed with straight counters. It was very hard to navigate around and it always seemed crowded. We find separate stations to always work better. It also was very hard to get a cup of coffee when we wanted one because the coffee machines were empty a good part of the time. The music around the main pool and kiddy pool was very loud. There wasn't a quiet place and pool to go to unless you paid extra to join the "Haven Club". We were never told about the Haven Club. If we were, we would have gladly joined. When we tried to become members while on the cruise, the wasn't any more room for us. Unfortunately, the boat doesn't have a decent size pool that is away from the crowd and very loud music. My wife and I are not old people and love to listen to music......just not that loud!!!! Dinners were sometimes served cold as was the coffee. It was surprisingly easy to get a table without a long wait but it sometimes took very long to receive your dinner once you were seated. In our opinion, Royal Caribbean has a much better way of running their ship.

The Birthday Gift to my wife. by Loveofgod

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The Cruise on The NCL Breakaway was a very wonderful experience. My wife and I both agreed to the fact that there was too many people. There was so many people that it was only by accident that you saw anyone twice. Our question is why did it take 2 plus days to get to Bermuda, and only 1 plus day to get back? Was it so that we spent more money on the ship? I hope not..

The Breakaway is a great ship!! by MKJM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The Breakaway was a beautiful ship. The entertainment was fabulous. We loved Fire and Ice. Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. tribute was outstanding. The singer was spectacular. I don't know how she ran around in those high heels. What a voice!!~! We bought their Cd. All the other shows were great. The food was good.. They should keep a area open all night to help yourself to a drink or snack. We went to the all night Irish bar for something to snack . Had limited items. Should have more appetizer items. Restaurants close to early!! We celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary. It was nice the waiters brought us a cake and sang to us.in the main dining room. We had a mini suite with balcony. It was nice . If it was little bigger would have been better. Highly recommend getting a balcony. It is well worth the extra money. Nice to look out at the ocean. Our trip to Bermuda was very enjoyable. It will stay in our memories forever. Would recommend this cruise ship to everyone. Try it you will love it!!! The Mandel's from NJ

Family Trip by grandparents3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

This was the best first cruise for our grandchildren. There were a lot of amenities on the ship for them; the basketball court (their first priority); the zipline, rock climing wall, etc. We hardly saw them. There were a lot of teenagers on the cruise so they made a host of friends and spent most of their time with them. As far as the adults were concerned we just wanted to relax and enjoy the beauty of cruising. This is our second cruise with NCL and I still have a problem with all the "speciality restuarants". When we first started cruising this was not a issue, but like anything else money is the primary motiviation. But despite that we enjoyed ourselves.

Breakaway Cruise July 21, 2013 by Bullvon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Beautiful ship, great entertainment. Enjoyed the group Fire and Ice very much. Our room was a mini sweet with a balcony. The room was on the small side but t had a full size shower.Balcony was very small. The pool area was overcrowded and not enoug lounges unless you got there early. The pool is minisule, smaller than a backyard pool. The food in the main dining rooms was just OK. However, the upgraded restaurants are excellant. Bermuda is beautiful and worth the cruise.

Unfriendly Staff by CruiseLover09

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Staff members manning the food at the buffet were NOT helpful at all, in fact at times, I felt they were rude! We had to go to other tables to get our own silverware to eat with. When the chocolate sauce was empty no one seemed concerned or attempted to fill it.

Awesome Trip by Glenn55

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

My wife and I love cruises but of all the ones we have done this one was the most awesome. 3 Days in Port is so much better than any multiport stops that this is on our list to do it all over again. Bermuda is such a wonderful place and to have sufficient time to explore, enjoy and relax is a dream vacation. Don't do the Horseshoe Bay Beach - there are many isolated beaches that are a lot nicer. Buy the public transportation pass - well worth it and very easy to get around as Bermuda is safe and caters to tourists. The Breakaway Staff was absolutely wonderful and did an outstanding job in all aspects. We enjoyed the shows which were much better than any previous cruise though make sure you take age appropriate into your planning. Book all shows EARLY in the cruise as if you put it off they fill up quick. Ignore the negative reviews you read on here and realize that majority of the people cruising from NY are exactly that New Yorkers. I love New Yorkers but that are in nature just a tad bit inclined to complain about anything. The food is good and we ate the buffet everyday and did not try the other restaurants - I came to relax and I eat out at sit down restaurants literally 5 days a week on business - I look forward to shorts and casual shoes on my vacation. Love the washy washy team and wash stations - cleanliness is key on cruises. The Breakaway does have some design issues - the jogging track is always wet - pool areas are crowded and in high winds they upper deck area is roped off - which I waited till the last day to attempt but was not able to do so. The itinerary for this cruise is the best ever - enjoy The Breakaway it is a massive ship and a massive good time.

First time on Breakaway by dakotacruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Overall we have a good experience on the ship. Fortunately, our suite was in the Haven which was secluded and private because the regular portion of the trip was overcrowded in the pool and some reservation settings. To get a chair at the pool many reserved at 7am. The aft common area for parties is also too small for gatherings without seating. Unlike other Norwegion ships the shows are by reservation only or you won't get seats, but they are fantastic. The staff and food are also good. Spa and ship are beautiful but I would recommend only the Haven if booking a suite. For the money, if you cant get a chair at the pool or into the spa, you won't be happy.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY - WAS NOT A FUN CRUISE by nynyCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

While this ship is beautiful, I just think that Carnival and Royal Caribbean are much better options that Norwegian. On top of this expensive cruise, you have to still pay for all the shows and to dine in their specialty restaurants ($25 - $75 per person). You also have to pay for room service after midnight! There are no options to watch children under 4 years old, and children over 4 years old have to be picked up by 1 am. I got an inside family cabin, which quite frankly was the smallest most cramped room I have ever been on with any cruise line (I have been on 10 other cruises prior). This room was no tiny, that I thought for $5000 it had to be a joke. I went to guest services and was immedaitely told that they are all sold out and that they could not help me. I would never ever sail Norwegian again because it is just a boring crew and boring ship. They nickel and dime you for everything. The only thing good about this cruise was the food and the ice-cream. You are better off going to an all inclusive resort and end up paying a lot less....and really having everything included. All you get on Norwegian for that outrageous price is room and board, which I am being 100% will be the smallest cabin at sea. Next cruise for me will only be Carnival or Royal Caribbean

Norwegian Breakaway to Bermuda by avidcruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

we are platinum members with NCL and diamond with RCCL- we take 2-4 cruises a year and have cruised more than 8 times to Bermuda- we also have cruised Hawaii, Alaska, Panama Canal, Mediterranean, northern Europe, Canada and eastern Mediterranean- Breakaway is a beautiful ship- 4 adults cruising this time both with mid-ship mini-suites which I booked this past winter obviously before reviews came out- balconies extremely small and very disappointing- we were on deck 9 so overlooked the roof of the Waterfront meaning we could not look down into the water which we like to do- life boat drill was disgusting- were told not to bring our life jackets- 35 minutes long keeping people standing in the atrium finally viewing life jacket instructions on a screen most people could not see- our life boat station group had been told to stand in 2 lines for women and children and men which of course was ignored after 5minutes with people looking for chairs to sit down especially the elderly
