They have happy hour twice a day at certain bars that are detailed on the daily schedule. This includes a $2 drink with the purchase of the same drink at regular price ($6-$9). Also, eat in the dining room more often than the Lido (esp for dinner). The food and service are much better.

There is an automatic service charge for each customer every day, so don't be surprised when you get the billing (for me and my wife, it's $27 total each day).

Take advantage of all the activities available and during our dinners in the dining room, order what you want as much as you can finish.

Beverage package may be too generous, so pay by the drink if less than 8 beverages per day. the premium package is not needed if you buy a package, just go with the standard package

Don't overpack, but you will need warm (but not heavy) clothes for shore excursions. A long sleeve shirt, sweater and waterproof windbreaker will generally be enough. Take a small umbrella for each person. The rain is not heavy, but it comes and goes. We were fortunate--it only rained one day.

Have some good walking shoes for not only walking around the ship but for the excursions. If money is any object, set a budget and give yourself a little leeway for those things that find that will help keep the memories alive like T-shirts and such. Take advantage of the sales.

You can bring on 2 bottles of wine and to have in your cabin with no corkage fee. We ordered a cheese/fruit plate via room service for our own daily happy hour before dinner. Secondly, if you are traveling without small children , we found dining in the dining room superior to the lido deck.

If you are going into Victoria, be aware that their is a cost (or 30 minute walk) to get into the city center area.

As soon as you board, sign up for the spa package for the entire cruise and use it every day!! They have a limited amount of openings. Don't miss out. It is peaceful, quiet, and just plain wonderful.

Try to do as much as you can, on board ship and in the ports. Holland America makes sure there is plenty for everyone to do and see. Don't use other reviews as a guide of what to expect. You have to experience it for yourself.
