The disappointment in the Eurodam's staff, food and general customer service will ensure I book another cruise to Alaska Inside Passage with another cruise line.

Embarkation

Port authorities in Seattle were stellar! Our arrival experience set the stage and expectation for excellent customer service onboard ship. My rating refers to both the excellent staff we experienced when arriving the port of Seattle. Every person we encountered was pleasant, smiling and helpful. And the efficient and friendly staff greeting and guiding passengers when we arrived on board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was troubling. At one time I ordered the NY steak, sent it back because it was very tough and the second steak was equally poor. I did not eat the steak. The server offered another option yet, it was clear everyone was working hard to clean the dining room. So I did not want to stay. We ordered the Surf and Turf; the steak medallion was excellent and very tender, the lobster however, seemed under cooked and tasteless. The lobster was not eaten. Your Bloody Mary's were great!

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
My last cruise was 2 years ago on Princess Line. Unfortunately, this is the area which was a huge disappointment on the Eurodam. Tipping individuals for their service proved an effective strategy to increase the quality of immediate service yet, it did not effect the general pervasive attitude of the ships personnel. It's my opinion those taking a cruise want to feel a connection to staff and therefore "feel special". In my previous cruise experiences this was satisfied - not on the Eurodam! At one point while watching a very rude bartender serve drinks before a lecture in the Crows Nest , I was so shocked I sought out and informed his superior. who rather smirked when I suggested another bartender might have remedied the situation since the volume of customers with no table service was too much for one person. The dining room service seemed robotic; a general lack of customer connection from the moments we were approached to have our order taken. The servers have knowledge and skills necessary to perform all necessary procedures in a rot manner - they simply a lacked the ability to connect with customers. Of course this was true of my experiences, I'm sure some staff are excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Our room location was excellent! The ship was very clean in common areas with the exception of running our of soap in some of the heavily used restrooms. Very much appreciated the emphasize on customer hand-washing! Brovo!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Balcony room; large bathroom with tub; wonderful views; large patio/balcony area; carpet seemed not to be vacuumed for several days; bedding was delightful; adequate space for two people; the sofa area was a nice addition.

Ship tip

The rangers who spoke about the glaciers were informative, available and interesting! Be aware of constant "upselling" during the cruise.

On board, the process was efficient and effective. Again, the Port of Seattle staff were stellar!

We were on HAL Nieuw Amsterdam and the only complaint was with the entertainment. Other than the shows in the main lounge they were not anything to write home about. However, the staff was great. Found if you tip cash the waiters will come and find you. Same as my last Carnival cruise.
