Review summary
This was my first cruise ever and I give 5 stars to the whole cruise experience. We had an inside room and everything was clean and comfortable everyday. The staf will come in several times a day unless you hang something on your door to tell them not to. The entire staff from our sleeping quarters to meal service was excellent. If you are looking for a cruise for older children 8 and above, then this is not for you. If you are couples young and older looking to totally relax, then this cruise is perfect. There are some onboard activities but nothing over the top. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and meeting other couples. We saw lots of wildlife while cruising such as seals, orcas, Eagles, Dolphins and humpbacks! I researched and found out that although Glacier Bay was on our itinerary, you do not actually "dock" there and get off. A park ranger boards for the day. The glaciers were awesome but after a couple of hrs looking at blue ice and waiting for a chunk to fall off you find other things to do. Still beautiful scenery. I would very highly recommend taking high powered binoculars for wildlife viewing. Light rain gear in May is useful as well. Take your own Dramamine....bought on board they are $3-4 per dose. Also be aware that the people trying to take your picture as you board and disembark at some of the stops will have your pictures up for sale on the last night of your cruise. They run about $20 per sheet. You are better off doing walking tours on your own if you are able to walk. Excursions are crowded and we saw most of the same things walking on our own without the expense. We booked a whale watching excursion and the crew was very friendly and knowledgable and we did see a couple of whales but actually saw more from our ship while cruising. If you do book an excursion pick one that guarantees your timely return to your ship and a refund of some of the price if you do not see a whale. As for the towns, Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan all had lovely scenery but they have way too many jewelry stores in each town. It seemed 75% of the towns sold mainly jewelry. A passenger told us that the cruise line owns the majority of the jewelry stores in each town. True or not, there are way to many. We enjoyed Sitka and being able to walk the town and get down to a little beach area. Ketchikan was really interesting, wish we could have been there for the salmon run on creek st. All in all the cruise was great, I would highly recommend this trip to anyone. I look forward to another trip..
