If you like a cocktail before dinner, take advantage of their buy one get a second one for a dollar in the Ocean bar or Crow's Nest.
Take a little cash to Canada.
You will pay for Bottled water. Try to educate yourself to all possibilities of shipboard life. We never found all of the info - they did not provide us with enough info. Read Reviews. Ours is 5-star. Haven't read other reviews yet, but I can't imagine what world people are living in that went on our cruise and gave a bad review.
Enjoy every minute of it.
BB King Blues club was fun! If you do not want to get fancy for Gala Night in Dining Room, they had the same menu on the Lido.
If the seas get rough find the ginger.
The Crowsnest allowed fabulous views while being inside in comfort.
If you can afford it, get a Neptune Suite. It is like being on a different ship from the rest of the passengers.
Don't miss the BB King show.
Ask for "house wine". Otherwise the menu only has name brands at $$.$$
The Silk Den was always a quiet bar with a great view...an alternative to the Crowsnest.
Book all that you can in advance through HAL's website, such as wine packages, spa packages, massage, etc... it avoids having to rush around when you arrive and you can enjoy just exploring the ship. Whatever happens, relax and enjoy it! You aren't working!
Anytime dining was a little spotty. Make reservations early.
Enjoy the full 360 degree promenade deck for walking! Three laps to complete each mile. Enjoy the fine art and historical photos of the Holland America cruise line that adorn the walls throughout the ship. Partake in the late night snack time at the Lido at 10:30pm. The made to order pizzas are great although it’ll take 30 minutes to complete from your time of order. Order a bucket of beers rather than a single beer. That’s way less expensive, and you can store the extra beers in your cabin fridge for later consumption. Visit the lovely and often underused Tamarind Bar for a delightful cozy, quiet and intimate space to unwind and enjoy company and drinks. The “Aft” facing balcony cabins are absolutely wonderful. They feature slightly larger balconies with a sweeping 180 degree view across the back of the ship, and those balconies and quiet and free of wind!
Bring Bonine for seasickness
Don't be afraid to sail out of fear of sea sickness, you can barely feel the ship movement. I brought tons of dramamine and didn't use a single tablet. Very solid sailing experience.
Relax and take advantage of all this ship has to offer.
Look at layout of ship prior to embarking on journey, so you can navigate ship. Ask lots of questions to staff everyone is very informed.
Use the dining area for dinner and the Lido for breakfast and lunch
Go to happy hour often
