1st Med Cruise, won it from AFV by BHelper

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

AFAIK this was the first Disney Med cruise, and we won it for 2 adults plus our 9-year-old son from America's Funniest Videos (AFV). The itinerary listed here isn't quite what I remember though: definitely started in Barcelona, but don't remember Malta at all (would have wanted to see the sets used in the Popeye movie if they were still around), yet the other stops of Palermo, Naples, Civitavecchia are remembered. There was another stop in northern Italy, could have been La Spezia. Don't remember Corsica at all. Definitely did Villefranche, as we took the excursion into Monaco to see the car museum. I definitely remember a stop in Marseilles that isn't listed in the official itinerary... Unfortunately, our flight schedule didn't permit doing any sightseeing or stay in Barcelona on either end. My son loved it, even when we insisted on him taking time out every day to do school work the teacher had given us. There were many repeat cruisers on this trip, and the attention that Disney pays to maintenance and making things go smoothly was very obvious. Very few times that things seemed to go wrong, thankfully, considering this was the first trip in the area.

Fantastic 1st Cruise !! by SteveB15

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We loved the cruise ship staff, food, activities and weather. Our 13 year old daughter made some friends from all over and still keeps in touch. Our 9 year old son didn't even get off the ship in St Thomas bnecause he was having so much fun with his group. Alot of fun activities to do...you can eat at anytime...ask for as much shrimp cocktail we can eat...nice and quite adults area where we can have a drink and a cigar. I absolutly loved this cruise and we are big Disney people. Lots of characters and Jack Sparrow was the best!!

Love the 'First Trips by Mrgoofy1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I just love going on the 'First Time' trips. Going to LAX, 14 Days of Disney was to die for... (GO TABLE 50) Going on the WestBound 14 Day to Sapin in a couple of weeks... There is always something to do or you can just do nothing. Watch TV under the stars... Sit on your balcony and just forget about work... The food is great, if you want to eat 24/7 no problem, but if you want to eat the three meals aday, I bet you will lose weight...

A great experience by DavidB23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was beautiful and very clean. The service, including our wait staff and stateroom attendant was excellent. All the staff was very helpful, friendly and courteous. I spoke to many of them privately and they were a generally happy lot despite Disney's vast array of rules and regulations. The ports we visited (Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Key west and Castaway Cay) were activity leaden and at least good for shopping (except Castaway Cay which is activity oriented). The food on the ship was very good. 3+ star dining. The adult only restaurant (Palo) served very creative food and was equal to a 4+ star restaurant in Boston. Without going overboard on extras, we racked up an additional $1600 bill on drinks, pictures, etc.. I imagine that many guests spent much more. Obviously, this is oriented towards kids. If you are not a Disney fan and/or do not have children, this is not the cruise for you. Kids are all over the ship and are typically very loud and boisterous. Teenagers roam the ship at night (mostly deck 10) and I even got made sport of one night by some kid hiding in a crowd. We have a five year old who was less than interested in the "Oceaneer's Club" which entertains your child while you go and do adult things. However, many parents were able to just dump their kid off at the beginning of the day and pick them up at midnight! The spa and gym are very good with new, modern equipment, free weights, etc... Internet access in the "Internet cafes" sucks... Bring your own laptop for using their "hotspots". I don't know whether the wireless connectivity is better but nothing could be worse than going through their portal.

Sue from Florida by SueM9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We have a Disney Vacation Club membership and traded for this cruise. We're in our 50's and no children went with us--were worried that Mickey would be running all over the ship. Were pleasantly surprised. They had times and places for the characters to be seen and photographed. Two best bargains on ship for adults only: 1. "Rainforest" was $75/person for whole week--sign up early and enjoy. 2. "Palo's" Restaurant--$10/person to upgrade. If you can't get reservations go up 1st day to restaurant and put name on waitlist--Came thru 3 times! Yummy!! Was well worth the $20/couple. Food was superior to dining rooms. We even got dressed up and went to the bar inside "Palo's" for a drink and they asked if we wanted to stay for dinner--of course, we said yes. Our feeling on room selection is go for the inside and spend the money on other things. Definitely recommend to people with children, but also to those without.

DISNEY runs a tight ship. by VC68849267

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

If cruising is your thing (and I'll be upfront that I was not, and still am not - this was for my kids) I couldn't imagine that anyone could do it better than Disney. The staff and facilities are incredible. The restaurants were great, and to have your servers matched to you for the entire week is a GREAT concept. However, to HAVE be at the restaurant at the SAME time every night got old. For a kid-themed ship, the pool for the 3-7 year olds was disappointingly small, and there is absolutely nothing than a small squirt-circle for the 1-2 year olds. My 2 year old cried and cried to be in the other pool with his brother (in plain sight) but they won't allow it. Ports-of-call are very disappointing. Very cheap. Nothing but t-shirt shops, chain-restaruants and duty-free crap. If older over-weight, pale people walking up and down the streets with shopping bags is what one should expect regarding the culture of the Carribean, then I guess I saw it. Castaway Cay (Disney's Island and last port) is clean, fun and quaint, but a full ship's worth of people now on the beach means fighting for chair space and making sure other kids aren't stealing YOUR kids things. This was a stressful 5-6 hours. Too many people on a small stretch of beach. OK.. all that said, this trip WAS primarily for my four-year-old who LOVED everything. The Oceaneer's Club was unreal. He couldn't wait to go back.. and never wanted to leave. If we didn't have the younger one... we would have been able to take advantage of the ship's ammenities more. Botttom line- kids should be 4 and older, and don't expect quiet Carribean retreats.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the ship is impressive and they are always working on cleaning or painting some part of the boat. I have never had an unpleasant experience with the crew, they are always most helpful. the spa is great and the quiet cove is delightful. Loved dinner and high tea at Palo's. the room stewards have always been wonderful, they take great care of us.

The perfect family cruise!! by JeffF6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This our second time on the magic. The perfect cruise for everyone in your family, every hour there are four to five things to do. The kids club is fantastic, they have group activities going on all day. Don't miss the shows at night, you will think you in a broadway theater. The food is very good and different every night. The kids have different choices or can pick the basics. I wanted to order off there menu more than once. The wait staff will blow your mind!! I have never met more entertaining people that go way out of there way to make you smile. We have two kids 3 and 6, they both cried when we had to leave. In all this is the best family vacation of your life!!

The best experience ever! by AlM3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The thought of cruising with Disney seemed odd at first as we were traveling without tots....boy was I wrong. The large number of people with kids in tow leave the adult only areas uncrowded during the days. It was not unusual to be at the adult pool on a day at sea, and be one of only four or five couples!

Truely Magical ! by DuncanW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

From the very begining it was a real vacation. We drove up to the gate at Port Canaveral and were greated by the most professional and friendly people to help us through the booking process. Our first site of the ship was from a distance but up close it is a true work of art. A very short wait at the port and we were called onto the ship and greeted like we were the only people there. The staff was caring and honestly concerned for our well being.

The Best Cruise Ever by DonnaB27

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband & I have been on other cruise lines but this was by far the best. The staff was excellent. We traveled with friends and one of them had a food allergy. The servers went out of their way to make sure that her dishes were prepared exactly how she needed it prepared. The ship was spotless. Even though it's a family cruise line, we were never tripping over kids. Castaway Cay was a perfect ending to the cruise. I would have no complaints if we could have spent the whole 7 days at Castaway Cay. I was surprise that there was not more merchandise in the shops on the ship.
