Nice ship - cruise exerience not great by Tracy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The ship itself if ver y nice, despite all the pink! The layout is somewhat confusing as you cannot walk straight through on several decks, but the decor is fun and inviting. The dining room staff was second to none and the food (although way too much) was very good. The rooms were nice and always clean. The gym and spa areas were too small but nice. The showers in the spa area are terrible - no water pressure, the hot/cold indicators are backwards..very frusterating. Our biggest issue was the reduction of a port day. We were told very shortly after we left Long Beach that the ship had to return due to a sick passenger. This ultimately cancelled one day in port which was very upsetting. The cruiseline refunded everyone's port charges of 8.65 each which quite frankly, was insulting. They should have done more. While a sick passenger is a difficult situation, we felt that Carnival could have done more to compensate the other 3000 guests who paid to see 3 days in Mexico. 6 days on a cruiseship is too long. Further, the constant harassement by bar staff to purchase their expensive drinks was not only frusterating, it actually ruined our trip. We had several kids in our group of all ages. On the upside, they did enjoy their respective kids clubs.

Carnival Splendor-nightmare by LolitaF

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

This was supposto be a FUN ship cruise..It was just a boring bummer ship.We have all cruised before. The itinerary was 1 sea day. 1 day in Matzalan, 1 day in Cabo,1 day in Puerta Vallarta. 2 sea days.Home... Before we ever left they cut out Matzalan due to the risks O.K. Then the day we left their was a emergency medical situation and we had to return to Long Beach. O.K. The intnerary changed again. 2 days in Cabo and 1 day in Puerta Vallarta. O.K. On the way back towards Cabo the itinerary changed again. 1 day in Cabo and 1 day in Puerta Vallarta. 4 sea days and 2 ports. Then my niece got sick and had to be taken to the hospital in Cabo. She had kidney stones. We had all purchased travel insurance. She had to stay in the hospital in Cabo they kept her HOSTAGE untill she could come up with the CASH to pay her 12000.00 hospital bill. They actually told her that they were going to keep her for another night until she came up with the money to pay the bill. again we all had purchased travlers insurance and also had private pay insurance. They (her and her Mom)were also forced to pay for a hotel, food, medical, expences and a flight home. My Daughter and I had to get back on the ship and continue the cruise with out them. .Carvival refused to give them any kind of refund for their trip. They were only on the ship for 2 days. Mexican nightmare..The travel insurance was worthless.

Time of my life by PhilipB1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The check-in process needs a serious overhaul, this was the most painful part of getting on the ship, it was very disorganized, and understaffed. The only thing that made it better was a nice young man offering my mother a wheelchair because he noticed she was using a cane and was walking very slowly. The photos are way to expensive and they dont offer alternatives, possibly changing to the Diseny style photo process would be better and cheaper. Now on to the good stuff, Carnival never fails this is my 5th cruise with them and I loved every minute. The staff, the food, the activities, the ship, everything is so nice. I will be booking my next cruise very soon.

Splendor Cruise by JoeB10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The Ship is nice and big. Clean and with good service. The shows are good. Some more than others. The comedians are pretty good. Again, some more than others. We got screwed on the trip due to a "medical emergency" after leaving Long Beach and about 2 and a half hours out to sea...the boat turned around and went back to Long Beach. So instead of getting two days in Cabo and one day in Puerto Vallarta, we only got one day at each. OH, and they gave us back 9 dollars to compensate. ???WHAT??? That was not right.

Our Cruise by BarbaraN1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The ship was very nice considering that over the eight days we spent 6 on the ship. Unfortunately the programs were set up for children OR older people. We are very active with twin 16 year olds and none of the programs interested us. Bingo ~ really? Trivia ~ really? Even our girls found nothing interesting in the Club O/2. So, we spent 6 days 2 of which were sunny either napping or reading or eating (which we didn't need to do). Overall...boring trip. The best time was in the two ports of call. Too bad we only had those two...again a let down.

Total Disappointment by RQ

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

Our rooms (3) were located on the 2nd level. That was a huge mistake as we were up all night with the loud booming of the water slamming into the ship. I cannot believe Carnival sells these rooms. The ship was creaky, carpets dingy, food service luke warm and slow in the dining room. We've cruised Carnival before and enjoyed it immensely. They have gone downhill.

Fun vacation for the money by KrystieM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

If you get a 'good' deal, this vacation is totally worth it. Once we made it through check-in at long beach (which was chaotic and disorganized) the trip went fine. Relaxing and fun. The food in the dining room was okay, but the buffet seemed better than previous trips. Alcohol was, as always, expensive-- so make sure you find other ways to solve this.

Great cruise but too many people. by ShirleyS4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

Carnival needs to perfect "people moving" to make it an enjoyable experience for all. Many complaints about the initial boarding with up to a 3 hr. wait "in line" to board. Also long lines in each port to board ship. My husband and I are elderly and would not take a cruise again on such a large ship.

Outstanding cruise!! by Sean28196137

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

This was our first cruise and it was awesome!! The crew was top-of-the-line...anticipating our every need and want. Our stateroom was kept clean and supplied every time we left. Our inside cabin was plenty big. There was always something to do and the entertainment was top rate. We will be cruising with Carnival again soon and often!

Not what I expected by JodyS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The ship was huge, but the way they have it set up, it is always crowded. One passageway on one deck. The food in the buffet was terrible. The service was terrible. Didn't like the salt water in the pools. Very, very expensive. Felt like a walking wallet. Didn't care about me, just me spending money. Never felt that way on a cruise before. Would not reccommend Carnival to anyone. Try one of the others.

"Needs improvement" by Hcc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

Not what I expected from Carnival Splendor in comparisson to Carnival Paradise. Carnival Splendor might be a better or newer ship but the customer experience didn't match. Needs a lot of improvement. Will try Royal or Norwegian cruise lines next trip.
