Carnival Splendor overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 6, 2020

Carnival Splendor delivers a casual cruise experience designed for the average, fun-loving family. Built in 2008, this Concordia-class ship is headed to dry dock in 2019 before it travels down under to sail the sparkling Australian seas. The overhauled Splendor will debut updated dining options, more nightlife, and an expanded sports zone that complements the existing Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades added in 2016. In keeping with the family-friendly theme, Carnival Splendor features multideck waterslides, Camp Ocean adventure clubs, and Seuss at Sea activities plus all the mini-golf you can handle. Whether you're up for a dive-in movie by the pool or rocking the stage in Lip Sync Battle: Carnival, this line offers an abundance of family-friendly activities and entertainment.

New restaurants will include the popular poolside eateries Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina, among other Carnival fan-favorites. Nightlife aboard Splendor centers around the Red Carpet Dance Club; The Cool, a jazz venue that hosts trivia nights; and the El Morocco Lounge, which is a popular spot for comedy and music. At night, Playlist Productions takes over the main stage at Spectacular Spectacular with live shows featuring nostalgic '80s hits and world-class dancing. The Punchliner Comedy Club is another happening venue for stand-up that's approved for all ages in the evening, and adults at night.

One of the ship's best features is the adults-only Serenity Retreat, which is equipped with plush canopy-covered daybeds. Families will also appreciate the main pool, which features a retractable roof so that even unseasonable weather can't spoil your fun.

From its current homeport in Long Beach, Carnival Splendor sails to Hawaii and the Mexican Riviera, including Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. Transpacific cruises are also available as the ship repositions to Sydney, Australia, via Singapore in 2019. Following its refurbishment, Splendor will operate from the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal year-round as Carnival expands its presence in the region. Itineraries range from fast-paced weekend getaways to leisurely 10-night cruises that explore islands between Tasmania and the Gold Coast.

Well below average. The choices of food are very limited and food quality is below average and food is way too salty. Activities and entertainment are well below average.

Check out the Taste Bar. Great for a quick little bite while walking through the ship, without having to go to the buffet.
