A Good Time Was Had by All by LoraineB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

We took the 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise in November and had a wonderful time. The Carnival Pride is a beautiful ship with Italian Renaissance art all over it. The Taj Mahal showroom theater is gorgeous. The Normandie dining room is done in the most beautiful 1930s art deco style with the Queen Mary painted on the ceiling! We had a balcony room, which we really enjoyed because the balconies were private. The ship is designed so that there is very little traffic in any one area and not very many areas where there are rooms on both sides of the corridor. We were able to go out our cabin door and look through a window into the atrium. Very nice! We did not have children with us and we appreciated the fact that there was plenty for kids to do, but their areas were separate from the main areas.

Great for families, children, is not for adults with other adults, definitely a family-fun ship.

excellent for first timers by BenA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

this was our first cruise and we saved it for our honeymoon. at first glance the ship was in immaculate condition and the service was impeccable. later we noticed a few items that were worn but not dangerous and in the middle of the week room service seemed to slack (3 hrs to get dinner?). overall it was a very enjoyable time and would travel on carnival again.

A Nice Cruise by EricS8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

The ship was nice and the Carnival employees were very willing to help. The ship was clean and kept in good condition throughout the cruise. The pools were nice and the hamburgers cooked by the pools were great! Our waiter, Norris, was excellent and took good care of us....we had a 15 month old with us who required extra attention, and Norris was always there when we needed him.

Great Family Vacation by AliceS2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

This was our second cruise with Carnival and our first cruise taking the entire family - our two adult children with spouses and 3 granddaughters, ages 15 months to 8 years. We were on the Carnival Pride for the Mexican Riviera Cruise. The kids had a great time - I think the 15 month old had the best time... She loved the shows, as did we all, and she danced in the Butterfly room nightly.. Our family ( 8 people) dined each night in the Normandie Room and our Waiter and Waitress could not have been more accomodating and gracious. A plate of fruit was always immediately brought to the table for our toddler and our waiter always cut the steak for our 8 year old - you can't ask for more than that! We had wonderful service. We came home with a beautiful family portrait and beautiful portraits of our children. The quality of work by your photographers is very professional. I think the photos were the best part of the trip for me (being the grandma)! We swam with dolphins and our daughter went parasailing - something she has always wanted to do. Our transportation on shore was always top notch. We had two disappointments on the ship. We purchased what were suppose to be three partially obstructed view rooms - two of the three rooms we purchased had absolutely NO view. They were totally obstructed. Our second disappointment was we had requested three rooms next to each other. We ended up with one room in a different isle and two of the rooms together. It wasn't too much of an inconvenience but would have been nice if we could have all been close. It made it a little more difficult for my husband and I to help with the grandchildren . It was a full cruise, being Thanksgiving week, so we certainly understood the cruise line had to make adjustments to accomodate all the children on this particular cruise. We will cruise with Carnival again. Thanks for an unforgettable vacation.

The Pride is a very nice ship. It is very well maintained, the crew is always cleaning it to keep it that way. The rooms as well look new and are very well maintained. The dinning was excelent along with the staff, who were verry funny, and did their best to get you every thing you wanted.

Good Value by MelindaW2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

We had a wonderful time on this trip despite a couple of minor issues. The ship has great programs for kids under the age of 11, but my teen was a bit bored. The ships slide was not operational for the entire trip which was a big disappointment to the kids. The beds were comfortable and the service outstanding. The carpets in the rooms needed cleaning. Entertainment is an area that Carnival needs work. Overall a great value.

A Good Getaway by HeatherL2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

It's so easy to be critical.....The ship/trip was great, especially for those carefree partyers who like to engage in hairy chest contests and other camp type activities. I would pick a theme cruise next time. Other than my glorious suite, I never found a room that beckoned to me. Every lounge and bar seemed to be a breezeway leading somewhere else. I spent $70.00 on the internet connection and my e-mails never went out. This would be a major concern to me on a future cruise.

beautiful ship!!! by GinaC8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

I was very impressed with the style of the ship.I'm not a big art fan but the art that was displayed was gorgeous. It was kept very clean also, anytime you turned the corner someone was cleaning something . I also loved the fact they had an adult swimming pool only and if even 1 child walked into the pool someone came over and escorted them to another pool!! The rooms were great and the staff was impecable! My only complaint was how expensive the bottled water was and sodas if you didn't want to buy a soda card it was $50.We dont drink that much to buy it.I also wished we could have brought our alcohol in our rooms that we buy on excursions to Mexico. It gets very pricey on the ship.Maybe someday they will have an ALL INCLUSIVE cruise. That would be GREAT! Also the exursions are way more expensive on the ship than if you buy them online or at the destination. We payed $50 more than each one we did. I know it sounds bad but the whole experience was awesome.. It was our honeymoon and we had the best time.We actually got engeged on a carnival ship last Feb and loved it so much we returned for our honeymoon!!! We just learnned some things on each trip what to do for next time!

"A disappointing cruise!" by ChrisS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

My overall impression of the ship was nice. Due to the storm and the new course taken, the so-called "comparable" ports was really a disappointment.

A disappointing first cruise by Lynn23321422

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

Our main issue was the change of ports due to Hurricane Paul. We were scheduled to stop at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. We went instead to Ensenada, San Diego and Catalina. Substituing a border town and 2 California stops is not a comparable cruise. Those stops would constitute a 3 or 4 day cruise and be half the price we paid. We accept the need to avoid the scheduled ports since the hurricane hit all 3 of them. However, Carnival should have offered some compensation in the form of a voucher for a discount of at least 50% on a future cruise. This would have demonstrated good customer service and assured that people would book another cruise. Their inflexibility on this issue has turned us off to cruising. This was our first and will be our last cruise. We have experience vacationing at the Beaches and Sandals resorts in the Caribbean since 1998 and they always offer a free week if a hurricane hits and vouchers for free days if a hurricane is nearby and causes the water sports to be cancelled. On 3 occasions hurricanes were nearby when we were there and we received 2 or 3 days free on a future trip. We will go back there in the future since they care about their guests and want them to return. We especially missed stopping at interesting ports since the sea days became boring by the 3rd day. On board activities were about the same from day to day and the pools were out because they were too crowded and the change of location actually made it a bit too cool anyway.

A disappointing cruise by HuaK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

First, Carnival should have cancelled the trip once it became aware that Hurricane Paul could potentially affect the itinerary within 24 hours. The captain decided to go ahead although there was indication of hurricane on the way. Second, less than a few hours after the ship set sailing, the captain informed us that there would be an itinerary change. From the satellite image we saw that the hurricane would only briefly affect a portion of the scheduled course, and the ship could easily wait for half a day until the storm cleared before continuing. At any event, the storm would only affect the last port of visit (Cabo San Lucas) and would not have any impact on the first two ports (Puerto Vallarta and Martzlan). Third, on the second day, the captain announced that the itineray had to be changed completely. We were going to Ensenada, San Diego, and Catalina instead. I wanted to get off the ship, but my family members as non-US residents would not be given refund for the unused portion of the trip, according to Carnival's policy. Furthermore, two of my family members, age 70 and 65, would be too ill to suffer the long bus ride from Ensenada to Long Beach, and had to drag the luggage to past the border patrol in San Diego. As a result, we all had to stay to visit San Diego and Catalina, places that we had visited numerous times in the past. We paid more than twice the amount of money for the same itinerary of another cruise that only goes to these three places. This is unfair. I feel we have been cheated. Fourth, after we arrived in Ensenda, we learned that the storm was over and it would be safe to sail to Cabo San Lucas. I asked an officer of the ship that we should go to Cabo San Lucas and perhaps one other port. We could stay for two days in Cabo San Lucas in order to save time. I was completely ignored by the officer, who simply said that the decision had been made by the captain, and then walked away from me without further explanation. I tried to talk to the service desk. I was also completely ignored. The staff simply said that I should have gotten off the ship if I didn't like the itinerary change. The service by the offiers and service staff was rude, lack of compassion and reasoning, and frankly, discriminating against people of other nations who paid the same price as US or Canada residents. Many passengers expressed sympathy towards us. But none from the crew members. The waiters and waitress who served in restaurants, however, were very friendly. They were the only people who gave us some happiness. The whole trip was a waste of money. It could have been handled better in numerous ways in spite of the storm. I would not recommend Carnival again. I am going to ask Carnival to refund at least a portion of the money.

Overall a nice experience by ChrisO4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

The ship was very impressive as a structure. We found it was an experience to have tried at least once. We found that people smoking on their balconies made using our balcony difficult. Also there was a family above us making extremely loud noise all the time. The sushi made us a lilttle sick every time we had it and the Mermaid Grill food was bland overall. The Normandie dinner seating with other people we didn't appreciate. We're honeymooners and wanted to be alone. I think the only way we'd do a cruise again is if were adults only. This cruise caters too much to families with children. Everything we wanted to do was usually closed (Beauties, Ivory Bar etc.). I think these adult oriented clubs should be open 24hours.

As expected by ToddH2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

Ship was clean and in constant care of employees who always smiled and said hello, Aside from the lines of the first fomal eveing ther was always plenty of space, now crowds and often great solitude throughout the ship. Ship is easy to navigate with most activities on decks 2 and 3, i.e. main dining room, shops, bars, main show room, casino and more. Deck 9 had three pools, Mermaid Grill, Spa and David's Supper Club on Deck 10. Really no other reason to enter any other deck other than your own stateroom

Ready to Cruise again!!!! by Chrisc1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

Ok, here I go. We were on the Carnival Pride for the 7 night cruise to the Mexican Riveria! This was my girlfriend and my first cruise, so we were a little unsure of what to expect. First of all...Bring Gym clothes!!! The food is so good, and so much of it, that if you get carried away, you can easily put on the pounds, even after only 7 days. Speaking of the gym, it was great.. eliptical machines, treadmills, nautilus machines, and some free weight dumb bells. The ship is well maintained and very clean. The ship staff is helpfull, but I would just say I felt the service was good, not great. Not too mention there were a few staff members in sales positions that I felt were kind of shaddy, and gave me and my girlfriend the creeps. Anyway, if you want to get away, and see different ports, and know that at the end of the day that you are going to have a wonderful meal, and return to the safety of the ship, this is how we felt. After seeing some of the ports of call, I am glad that we cruised, I would have been upset if I would have stayed at some resorts in a couple of ports. I do have to say that the last stop, Cabo was the nicest, I wish we would have had more time here!!! the shore excursions were ok, I would not say great, a little expensive, and that is one other point about cruising, there are several expenses if you endulge, Shore excursions, pictures on ship, tipping at ports of call but to name a few. Please don't get me wrong, we loved the cruise, in fact while we were on the cruise, I proposed to my girlfriend, and we were already planning our honeymoon cruise. Overall, I have to say that I would do this again, the ship was great, the view was specatcular, and having no worries was the best of all!!!

Worse Cruise experience by LeahO

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Pride / Destination: Mexico

The ship was ok. Nothing special , was tidy. The disappointment was not being told the destination was changed in advance. My husband and I checked in early and was notified of the change in destination while standing in line to board. Not enough time to make a decision and the luggage had already been taken aboard. Too many sales pitches at the end of the treatments. I had overcharges on my sail and sign. I tried to dispute the last day upon getting my bill and the pursers desk was unhelpful. They told me they had to clear it with the department heads of each of the areas and no one was available. I waited 1/2 for her to keep calling the departments that had no answer. I was very frustrated with her attitude. Actually said to me that she would not credit my account for an internet package of $ 100 we DID not purchase until she spoke to my husband as if I was a child. (i'm 41). The blow dryer in our state room shorted out TWICE in my face. I ordered very expensive hair product from the beauty salon that was never delivered to my room but was charged to my account. The excursions were lame and not well planned. Overall a very disappointing cruise. Last time on this cruise line. I have sailed once before with Carnival and this is the last time.
