Back-to-Back Western Caribbean Delights by Cruiser576

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Traveling with another couple, we took the same cruise on Caribbean Princess in both January '15 and '16, finding each a great experience. This year's was even better though (despite a bit of high seas one day) because of the milder weather overall and our wiser choice of shore excursions. Also, the entertainment was top-notch whether in the lounges or major productions in the Princess Theater. Kudos too for the daily Patter with all sorts of info, and the efficient manner of boarding/disembarking. Someone would have to be a real grump not to thoroughly enjoy any Princess cruise.  We plan to book future itineraries aboard Princess ships, confident now -- after five consecutive cruises -- that we won't be disappointed.

Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My friends and I had a wonderful time on this Western Caribbean cruise.  The food was excellent, shows were amazing, and the choice of activities and excursions at the ports were plentiful!!!

I look forward to another Princess cruise.

Mexico/ Belize trip by deanamaurer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The first night the ship was 5 hours late and when we finally did get on the boat the restaurants were supposed to stay open until 10 but they closed early so we were not able to eat in a restaurant.  We look forward to a steak at night but the ship did not offer steak like the other cruise lines do.  The food was all inclusive of unusual dishes and included very little of traditional American food.  The exercise area was good and the staff was helpful and friendly.  They had a comedian that was very good and sword swallowing jugglers that were entertaining.  The ship did not stay in port as long as the other cruise lines so time on land was shorter.  The TV offered much more programming that other cruise lines and they also offered movies on the big screen on deck several times a day.  They also offered sport events on the big screen and on TV which other cruise lines do not.

Rushed cruised by davyinbigd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was ok- a bit dated, and worn. Staff was ok, but always seemed to be rushing people either at meals or any services Activity staff was ok as well, but again they always seemed to be in a rush. The Cabin Stewart was kind of a jerk - had to ask for sheets 3 times, and was never very friendly. Spa was good friendly staff and very nice. Cabins seemed really small R603 Balcony compared to other cruises I have been on. The prices was really low so I guess I got what I paid for.

Caribbean Princess Western Caribbean by ford761

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise was ok but Princess lacks in taking  care of some of the finer details.  Beds on the ship were very poor.  A poor nights sleep detracts from the joy of the cruise.

Entertainment was off.  Singers not the best and dancers need more rehearsal

I won't sail on this ship again.

DELIGHTFUL by geburnett

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

All I can say is that my experience on this cruise wants me to go on another.  Every thing was just perfect.  Some people probably will complain about the rough waters coming back.  I like excitement and I won't even complain about this.  All your staff were polite, kind and very helpful.  It was a wonderful experience.

Western Caribbean cruise by Cruiser294

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We left from Houston Texas and we delayed because of weather. Although that was very inconvenient, Princess made every effort to make our cruise as enjoyable as possible. The food and entertainment were wonderful.

Classic Winter Getaway by Eastsider

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great cruise. This was our 4th Caribbean cruise.  Staff was very friendly; always said hello when passing in hallway or entering a venue. Ship was clean and well maintained.  We had some weather issues and the Captain kept us well informed on what to expect and potential for delays and/or rough seas.

We had reservation dining that was enjoyable.  There was a great selection of food and the service was pleasant.

Leaving from Houston is a bit of a pain because of the travel time/expense to the cruise port.  The cruise time to the Western Caribbean is also longer than from Ft. Lauderdale so there are only 3 port stops.  This can be both good and bad.

OK ...I Guess by dannsandvig

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our 4th cruise, 3rd on Princess and our least favorite.

Over all we felt like there was just something left out by the cruise staff. Maybe we just didn't hear them but there were very few announcements regarding things like weather, show schedules and general going on's on the ship.

All the stops were new to us so we were looking forward to getting some sort of information on the ports what to do, what to not do etc like we have on other ships but we didn't get any so we were left to figure out things for ourselves. We had some help from the excursion desk but it was too busy to really get a good overview of the options.

We did the anytime dining which turned out to be a huge mistake. They say you can make reservations for that evenings dinner but when we tried the soonest we could get in was after 8pm ( and that was calling by 10 am) Turns out they only allow 20% of the seating for reservations and certain passengers (suites and club members) have first shot so there were virtually no available reservations.

When I tried to get some information on what we could bring back trhough customs I couldn't get a solid answer... 4 torn up Cuban cigars later I now know you can't bring any back regardless of what the nice man at the shop says. Had I been able to get an answer I would have save $50..

All this information that we were looking for may have been readily available but unlike previous cruises we didn't know where to find it.

My only guess as to why is that the Cruise Dircetor's staff was not focused on answering questions as much as having trivia contests and selling you wine tastings, spa services, teeth whitening and the like.

Makes me wonder if I will consider Princess again.Nervous

First Cruise by aalmjeld

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Caribbean Princess was amazing.  The services provided were great.  From the service of Benjamin, my steward who took care of my stateroom, to the food was exceptional.  The buffets were so good and offered a chance to try lots of dishes I had not eaten before plus lots of standards.  The food was hot, fresh and good.  The Palm Dining Room experience was wonderful.  The food choices were always top notch with sides and desserts that just topped off a wonderful meal.  The service by the staff made you feel pampered and taken care of. I enjoyed the shows in the Princess Theater and movies under the stars.Big Smile

The only difficulty I had was sleeping and feeling confined in my cabin.  Next time I will take meds with me for anxiety etc.

Avoid Princess Cruises! by mbash58a

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I just returned from a Princess Cruise and will NEVER go on Princess again.  Below is just a summary of this disastrous vacation:

1. Room: We paid more than $6,000 for a Penthouse suite and our room was dirty, smelly, half the drawers for clothes were broken, the shower leaked and the toilet worked half the time.

2.  Entertainment:  The first night we went to the show where sadly Steve Morris was one of the performers.  Besides looking like he had not had a shower in over a week, he made three anti-gay jokes in the first five minutes before walking out.  When we complained to the hotel manager, he yelled at us and said we were over sensitive.  So sorry but I don't find racist or homophobic jokes amusing!

3.  Wedding:  We got married on this cruise and the onboard wedding coordinator, Net, was rude, unprofessional and miserable to work with.

4.  Cruise Stops:  Other than Conzumal, the port stops were horrible (Roattan & Belize).  Dirty, run down without shopping or restaurants (as promised on the Princess website.)

Will be demanding or suing if necessary for a full refund!

Caribbean Princess cruise fabulous! by Cruiser421

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Wehad great weather, plenty of trivia games on board, entertaining shows and fun cruise staff.  Dining was excellent, waiter very attentive, chocolate desserts especially were out of this world!  Our mini-suite was spacious and we enjoyed excellent service in the lounges and spa.  Only Houston as a port was the negative, but we can't control Mother Nature.  Wind on the last day delayed our arrival back into port and several passengers got off out of order to delay the process for everyone.  Overall Princess does a great job, and I understand the new port is Fort Lauderdale .

Would do it again in a heartbeat! by threerefs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Enjoyed this cruise.  Would choose other ports next time - Belize City is  crowded, dirty, and nasty.  Cozumel was fine and Roatan had a lovely beach which we enjoyed immensely.

The food in the dining room was good.  Breakfast got pretty monotonous with few changes day to day.  The service in the dining room was excellent.  Really enjoyed going to the buffet throughout the day and feasting on fresh cantaloupe and pineapple.

Had a suite with balcony so didn't have to hunt for lounge chairs.  Spa was great, but don't go the last day.  Service really suffered when they knew you couldn't book another appointment and the last day turned into a commercial, trying to sell you their products.  Went with a group of four and everyone had the same experience in the spa.

The suite was spacious, not luxurious.  Everything was nice, but starting to show its age.  My husband and I had twin beds pushed together to make a queen/king.  Really hated the big crack between the mattresses.  Had just been on a Norwegian cruise in October and they used a king mattress - no crack.

Upon return, had strong winds in Houston and had to delay disembarkation many hours.  The weather is not the fault of Princess, but the cruise line could have handled the situation far better.  How about passing out bottled water or opening the buffet to serve basic fare (we were told by staff that the cruise ship has a two or three day surplus of food).

Got a really good deal on this cruise.  Would happily go again at the right price.

Caribbean Princess by ljhaft

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Had a pleasant week.  Not quite as "nice" (staff, food, special touches) as the Holland America trips we've taken but good "middle of the road" cruise line.  The shore excursions were good - especially the Cenote snorkeling in Cozumel.  The biggest negative:  We were 6.5 hours late getting into port at the end of the trip.  Apparently this is not an uncommon issue for the Houston port but it would have been nice to have had a head's up about it in order to make plans.

V. good cruise, bad Port. by fjmccann41

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Very good, well organised cruise.

Only negatives were excursion guides hustling for gratuities on already overpriced tours.

And the expected blizzard of papers and brochures and "announcements" selling services, events, merchandise etc. onboard.

"Weather delayed" return caused expenses in changed  flights etc. Covered by Trip Insurance or compensated directly by Princess??

Not really a "Weather Delay" Same in previous seven weeks of this program, re winds, fog etc.

Houston is unacceptable as a port for a back to back cruise program for a ship of this size. Narrow, long shipping lane, winds and fog frequent.

New Years Cruise by Cruiser271

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall we had an excellent cruise. The breakfast buffet was a disappointment, the scrambled eggs were runny and smelled like fish, the bacon was way too greasy and the has browns (if that is what they were) were not good. The sit down dinner was very good and the steak house was excellent. I was disappointed that they charged for drinks in the casino while you gambled. We had a great time at the New Years Celebration and met a lot of nice people. Our cabin maid was excellent and was very quick to respond to requests.

I paid for Balcony . . . by steve865

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Caribbean Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Hopefully, Cruises Only will read this as I paid top dollar for a balcony suite and when I got on board the ship it was a lower level room!

So, when we were shown to the room I immediately called Cruises Only and was put on hold for over 30 minutes.  They related that there was only 1 supervisor on duty and she was too busy to try to help out.

When calling my cruise ship to ask if I could upgrade, they told me the ship was full.  They also told me that Cruises Only had forward only $1099.00 to them even though I had paid Cruises Only $1850.00.

So, needless to say, my wife and I are disgusted with Cruises Only.
