A: @enjoyurdaysmile And yet Carnival curiously includes it as a stop on their Western Caribbean itineraries. They’re going to feel pretty silly now that you’ve set everyone straight.
Answered by HarryMess on October 26, 2024
A: there is rarely a need to use other than US dollars in any Caribbean port, but make sure you have small bills since change could be in local currency.
Answered by DACruiser57 on October 25, 2024
A: you get a better exchange rate if you use pesos and it's a show of respect to use the money of the country that you are in.

Q: Anyone had any reviews on the river rafting shore excursions. In Costs Maya. Seems like three hours of tour is just going and coming by bus. How much time on actual water experience?

Answer QuestionA: Chaccoben is about an hour's drive from the dock. It's not the most spectacular ruin, but it is interesting and worthwhile.
Answered by OldHoncho on July 12, 2024
A: If you have any interest in Mayan Ruins, try the Mayan Extreme Tour with Native Choice Tours. Nothing “extreme”, but it includes the Chachobben ruins and a visit to a resort on the Bacalar Lagoon with lunch and an hour or so to spend kayaking, swimmi... ng or relaxing on the beach. For a great beach day, book Maya Chan. Book early since they sell out many times, especially if more than one ship is in port.See More

A: Segway tour was lots of fun and easy to learn!
Answered by Ally57 on July 12, 2024
A: Nope, sorry. Every single excursion in Costa Maya includes mandatory force feeding of animal flesh based protein. Double portions if you're a sanctimonious prick.
Answered by LisaKitty on July 7, 2024
A: I guess you could look for live animals! Just joking!

Q: Who was been to the crazy lobster? Would you reccomend that or just hanging at the port? How is the pool there? We will be there next week and trying to decide which would be the better option.

A: Krazy Lobster for sure. Great staff, free chairs and umbrellas and kayaks, good food and drink prices, and $20 an hour beach massages. Just an awesome day.
Answered by cbyron3 on March 19, 2024
A: You need to go straight to the Crazy Lobster, we had a great time there! The port area is really a tourist trap and is way more pricey than Cozumel. The Crazy Lobster has a great sandy beach with food and bar service that is very reasonable and inexp... ensive. The wait staff is really good ! If you go through all the touristy stuff to the back you can get a cab there for about $5See More

A: Crazy Lobster was great ! We enjoyed our day there very much. Great prices and wonderful staff! They didn’t hover over us but always were there when we wanted anything. We want to go back to this port just to go there again.
Answered by mindy530 on March 22, 2024
A: Recommend The Krazy Lobster too. You can always walk around the port when you get back. But go out of the port and see other areas. The prices are better. We had a great time and good food for less money than in the port.
Answered by ss644 on April 1, 2024
A: We really enjoyed The Krazy Lobster. You just buy some food and drink, the rest is free. You can get a 1 hour massage for $20. Make a reservation with the owner through facebook. Make sure to tell the taxi driver that you have reservations. I’ve hea... rd they will try to take you somewhere else. We were asked if we had a reservation from the taxi driver when I told them we were going there.See More

A: It's about $15/person. we went last week and really enjoyed it!
Answered by Kracka on March 1, 2024
A: Like $15. Not a bad price. The maneuvering through the aviary is as fun as seeing the birds
Answered by Lisa6787 on March 1, 2024
A: Chacchoben. If you can take a combo tour that includes Bacalar as well, do it. Other ruins either aren’t as good or are further away. Chacchoben also has monkeys in the trees on the path to the left near the temple. Very cool and something you wouldn... ’t see at Coba or Ek Balam, etc.See More
Answered by toniaboyer on January 15, 2024
A: The Chacchoben ruins are the closest and they are nice- even if the temple isn’t as tall as some others. It’s a great place to see monkeys as there are a bunch of them in the trees on the trail to the temple. If you can get a tour that goes to both t... hese ruins AND Bacalar even better. It depends on how much time you have in port. If you’re on a short time frame book through the ship to ensure proper return. If you have longer, book a private excursion ahead of time out of Mahajual.See More

A: Have not done any excursions in Costa Maya, but I'm hearing a lot of good stuff about Maya Chan. That is what we're planning to try on our June cruise on WOTS: https://costamayabeachresort.com/

A: I did that tour April of last year thru carnival and had a great time. I don’t remember why it was called 7 colors lol it was really nice blue water though.

A: DeeB410, how did you book your excursion?
Answered by J60406 on November 26, 2023
A: Ours wasn’t good. Our driver took us to the ruins, demanded an additional $10 each, then left us. We didn’t know which group we were supposed to tour the ruins with, and we asked around. We ended up doing a self tour. When we got back to the front, o... ur driver was nowhere to be found. The man directing all of the tour van parking found us a ride back to the ship. We never saw the lagoon- and that was the whole reason we booked. We were able to get a full refund.See More
Answered by DeeB410 on November 25, 2023
A: I read from two of the tour companies, if your ship docks after noon, you’re better off with just one or the other.

A: The water was gorgeous when we were there. There are some free beach areas between the lighthouse and the town of Mahahual. Walk through the port and grab a few taxis.
Answered by TampAGS on November 5, 2023
A: The water quality is lacking. You can go into town and have food and drink at one of the waterside joints or look for a lower priced beach excursion. I'd recommend the latter.
Answered by jallaway on November 5, 2023
A: I was just in Costa Maya and we rented a golf cart. We went to Crazy Lobster and it has a free beach but there was a lot of debris in the water. I would honestly recommend staying in port and enjoying the 2 pools in the port.

Q: We are doing a ship arranged scuba excursion (Oceania Marina) - is the availability of prescription masks for distance vision common? Neither of us wear contact lenses…. TIA

A: No commercial dive center or snorkeling excursion is going to have masks with prescription correction. You are going to need to get those yourself prior to the cruise. Do keep in mind, however, that a prescription snorkel mask is highly unlikely to b... e covered by vision insurance, so that would be an out of pocket expense for you.See More
Answered by LisaKitty on October 25, 2023
A: no. best idea would be to take your own mask or get contacts.
Answered by navydude on October 25, 2023
A: the glass in the mask adds 1 so you need to keep that in mind. my rx is -1.75. so I got adjusted to accommodate. before the adjustment, the lenses were making me sick.
Answered by nickid on October 25, 2023
A: I bought a full face mask from Amazon and was able to wear my glasses to snorkel.
Answered by mary0909 on October 25, 2023
A: not unless you get your own prescription masks
Answered by JOIE on October 25, 2023
A: you may also find that prescription goggles are relatively cheap from some mail order sources (especially if you order direct from China). These also can be worn under the full face mask and will seal much better

A: we took a taxi to the next town, Mahahual. Right on the beach with resturants and massages on the beach. If you are looking for something different
Answered by JuliebSteveb on June 24, 2023
A: Don’t just stay in the port area. Take a taxi to Mahuahual beach and visit one of the beach clubs there. Krazy Lobster is a popular one. Food and drink is cheaper than in port. To use the chairs at the port you have to spend at least $10 per person.... I do not remember seeing lockers in the area. I would not bring anything valuable. Get a waterproof case for your phone and cash and ship card.See More

A: Also, there is a lot of stuff in the port shopping area for kids. There is a large pool, you can see the dolphins even if not paying for an excursion, and there is a bird tour that is really cool.
Answered by DarrellKY on April 28, 2023
A: crazy Lobster is located on a walking street that runs along the beach. there are local shops selling their wares all along this street. of course you will have access to the beach. You can also get a beach massage very reasonably priced.

Answered by deboftheseas on April 24, 2023
A: You don't need one, but if you have one it's not a bad idea to have it with you. You are in a foreign country, and it is you proof of US citizenship.

A: as the comedian on the Allure called it "Close To Maya" with its 1/4 - 1/2 mile walk from the ship. Huge tourist trap, if we ever go back the we're staying on the ship
Answered by mwsyck on March 16, 2023
A: Since Maya Chan was suggested, I will tell you this. It's hard to get a reservation there even 45 days before your cruise. You probably need to ask for reservations like 6 months in advance. Also it is worth noting that if your cruise will be in the... summer, they close all summer for hurricane season. The exact closed dates for that are on their website.See More

A: I say take your beach day in roatan (any and all beaches are awesome) or in cozumel at playa mia beach or even nassau or grand cayman. costa maya is only good for three things: pick a good ship-led excursion, the walking-distance aviary if you... like birds, or a good day to stay on board and enjoy less crowded bars and pools.See More
