Luggage Tags - When Do you Put Them On?

I usually attach the cruise tag in the plastic carrier to my luggage before leaving the house. However, the airlines managed to rip the plastic part off (left the little metal wire hanging) on my last flight.  I always carry duplicate copies of my boarding pass and luggage tags, so was able to re-attach another one.

If you are flying to the port, do you wait till you get there to attach the tag?

Because of the damage that airlines have done to our luggage as well as my husband's scooter, we save placing of cruise ship tags until just before we get to the port.  If the tag is not supplied by the cruise ship (Celebrity still sends adhesive tags upon request), I use plastic tag protectors. Usually before we depart home, I have the tags cut down and slide them into the holders so it's only a matter of slipping the plastic band around the handle when it is time to put them on :)

I put them on at the hotel the morning before we board.  I have them in plastic sleeves and ready to attach.

I'll put them on the morning before I leave the hotel. I'll use 2 inch clear tape  cover the tag to protect it from moisture and reinforce it. If I forgot to toss the stapler on the trunk before I leave home, I'll barrow one from the hotel and I will also put a luggage tag inside of the bag just in case. I do not fly to the ports.

Never before a flight; if flying we put the tags on at the dock as we hand them to the porter.  If we’re driving ourselves to the port, or taking a taxi from a hotel, we’ll put the tags on before the luggage goes in the trunk.  We’ve never used the plastic tag protectors but we’ve never lost a paper tag.

LOL like me, you have been watching way too much tv! I'm voting early because I will be on a cruise on NOV 8 and quite frankly, I don't want to know the results until I get back on Dec 3rd!

I have the baggage handlers at the port put our luggage tags on.  They check our tickets and cabin numbers to make sure all is good.  In the old days when pre-printed adhesive tags came in the mail prior to the cruise, I would do it myself, but still wait until I was at the port.

Ship Info tags go on after the flight (s).  Only airline tags go on pre flight.

Even though we have plastic tag holders, we put them on after we get our bags in baggage claim.

Since we are always in a hotel the night before the cruise I put them on just before leaving the hotel for the ship.

Even though we have plastic tag holders, we put them on after we get our bags in baggage claim. This time we'll be driving to the port, so we'll put them on before we leave.
