Luggage Tags - When Do you Put Them On?

I usually attach the cruise tag in the plastic carrier to my luggage before leaving the house. However, the airlines managed to rip the plastic part off (left the little metal wire hanging) on my last flight. I always carry duplicate copies of my boarding pass and luggage tags, so was able to re-attach another one.

If you are flying to the port, do you wait till you get there to attach the tag?

Before you get to the cruise terminal.

We have driven to the port on our first 2 cruises but have to fly for the next one and after reading the first few posts we will put them on at the hotel the morning before we cruise.

We wait until we are at the port of embarkation to attach the tags. Usually, we fly in a day ahead of departure, so we put them on at the hotel.

Quite simply, if you are flying, do not put them on until you are done flying

We also purchased these luggage tag holders. They come with a reinforced metal grommet, and a stainless steel braided cable with a screw attachment to securely hold our tags:

We've been using the same set since our cruise in 2015, and they are still in Ship Shape (pun Intended)

Bet you can't wait for that massive terminal upgrade and some new ships.; sposed to be done sometime 2020..seen anything in the local papers. Galveston is almost the same distance from us as NO..probably will cause us to make some changes.

If driving, I put them on when packing.

If flying, I will put them on after baggage claim. I've had a few "fall off" during the baggage handling at airports.

The night before...we only drive 34 miles to Galveston. We only cruise out of Galveston, except for Alaska

This thread is getting too long to go back and look, but I'm surprised nobody has said they don't bother at all..every single cruise we've ever been on the baggage handlers at the pier ALWAYS make sure you have tags on, and if you don't, they always have them. having said that, I put them on when the luggage comes down from the attic...or at least I used to...those attic stair are a pain...so we found a home for them in a spare closet...and I don't take the old ones off till we put the new ones on. that way, i'm always in cruise mode just opening that closet door. yes I know...certifiable...

BTW, didn't we have a thread on luggage tag holders? or is it buried in here someplace?

We put them on at the house so we don't forget.
