Norwegian Star overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 9, 2020

With its Broadway and Vegas-style productions, Norwegian Star lives up to the cruise line’s reputation for innovative entertainment. Passengers can relive Vegas history with Vegas! The Show, which celebrates the culture of Sin City, or enjoy the melodies of songwriter Burt Bacharach with What the World Needs Now.

But Norwegian Star offers more than just entertainment. Passengers can cool off in the ship’s main Oasis pool or relax in one of six hot tubs. Plus, active travelers can keep busy from dawn until dusk with a full-service fitness center and gym, and sports activities such as basketball, volleyball, a jogging track, and two golf driving nets. Star also features kids’ programs such as Splash Academy, which caters to children ages 3 to 12, and the Teen Club, where teenagers can socialize and relax.

Passengers looking for a cocktail or beer can choose among Norwegian Star’s 10 bars and lounges, which include the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, Gatsby’s Champagne Bar, and the fleet’s first 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar. Cruisers can also take a break from gambling to grab a drink at the Star Club Casino Bar. In 2018, Norwegian Star received upgrades through the Norwegian Edge program, leaving dry dock with renovated staterooms and several new venues, including Sky High Bar, Bliss Ultra Lounge and the adults-only area, Spice H2O.

This Dawn-class vessel offers a wide variety of cruises to destinations in the Caribbean, South America, Europe, the Mexican Riviera, and the Panama Canal. The ship also has several transatlantic voyages sailing between Barcelona and Miami, as well as New York to Southampton, England.

Before you book

Why sail on Norwegian Star: Multigenerational groups and extended families will likely appreciate the wide age appeal of Norwegian Star’s activities and entertainment. From family-friendly stage shows to onboard kids' programs, the ship has plenty to offer younger cruisers, while some adults will enjoy kid-free areas such as Spice H2O.

You should know: The ship’s upcharges, including a number of its specialty restaurants, may not appeal to travelers on a budget. Plus, while Star was recently refurbished, it still does not have the high-tech amenities of newer Norwegian ships like Joy, Bliss, or Encore.

We were expecting a better experience with NCL, but their sales pitch almost ruined the cruise. They urgently need to improve the on board activities. The staff was very helpful and courteous.

Great but over crowded by cruises56950484

Overall the cruise was good. The scenery cruising through the Chillean fjords was amazing. Rounding the horn was a once in a lifetime adventure. The bar staff and most dining rooms servers were well trained and very friendly. Only real complaint is the over crowded Buffett lines, saving of deck chairs and the rudeness of fellow traveler. Would I cruise with Norwegian again... Yes but find a ship that's not sold out , that has a better space ratio.

Make sure your cabin isn't directly below a bar - loud noises so little sleep. They did change our cabin eventually (after several days) . Not an upgrade and gave us free dinner at one of their specialty restaurants where we found the staff to be especially rude and inattentive.

you might want to avoid the haven suite area on deck 12. they are at the stern and top of the ship........I understand those guests really had a rough ride through the hurricane. I cant understand why the highest price suites are in the worst ship position. I always prefer mid ships, middle decks.
