Norwegian Epic overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 9, 2020

Launched in 2010, Norwegian Epic is a top choice for a romantic getaway or an epic family vacation. This one-of-a-kind ship gives passengers a classic cruise experience with some unique Norwegian touches such as Freestyle dining, top-notch performances, adults-only hangouts, and a luxurious thermal suite and spa. Epic features adult-oriented entertainment and exciting complimentary and specialty dining with an international flair, but that's not all. The ship also has plenty of sports and water park activities for kids and active adults alike.

Start the day with breakfast at the Great Outdoors buffet, a workout in the Pulse fitness center, or a brisk walk on the jogging track. Whether it's midmorning or midafternoon, there's always time to enjoy some high-energy sports on the basketball court or a quiet moment at Spice H2O, an Ibiza-inspired retreat for adults. Then, it's off to the main pool and Aqua Park before frozen cocktails at the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar and a night of world-class entertainment.

Norwegian Epic has a strong lineup of stage shows (many of which are somewhat racy), including the Tony-winning musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the sultry dance extravaganza Burn the Floor, and the Cirque Dreams Epicurean dinner show, which features live music and acrobatics. The ship's 2015 refurbishments updated many of the dining venues, including Moderno Churrascaria, Cagney's Steakhouse, and La Cucina. While Epic is somewhat more geared toward couples and singles, families can still take full advantage of the Aqua Park and Splash Academy activity center.

Norwegian Epic alternates sails both Caribbean and Mediterranean itineraries. The ship's core territory covers the southern Caribbean, including Curaçao, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts. Western Caribbean cruises visit Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Honduras, and Belize with stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico. These itineraries depart from San Juan, Miami, or Orlando. Mediterranean cruises on Norwegian Epic depart from Barcelona and Rome. Itineraries range from weekend getaways to 12-day cruises that explore the shores of Malta, Greece, Italy, France, and Spain. For a vacation full of onboard relaxation, book a two-week transatlantic cruise between Barcelona and Miami or San Juan as the ship repositions for the season.

Before you book

Why sail on Norwegian Epic: While there’s plenty for families to do onboard, Norwegian Epic is ideal for adults traveling solo, as a couple, or with friends thanks to its ample nightlife, entertainment, and international dining.

You should know: Many cabins feature curved walls and rounded beds, which can lead to a cramped feel. Public areas, such as the Atrium and elevators, can be crowded at times, and some cabin designs are questionable.

Mostly at sea. Epic's age is showing by Chazdog

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic

I would sail Epic again, but not for more than a few days. There just wasn't enough to do on board for free for 7 days, especially when 2 ports were skipped. They could do a better job an enforcing rules like no personal loud speakers and vaping in specified areas, as well as improving the pool bar wait times (put a bar on the 18th deck), but the food was decent, and the staff did their duties. No AFT balcony ever again, though.

IMPERMISSIBLE WESTERN MENETRAINIAN CRUISE by tomthepipersson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic

The improvements about items listed would be beneficial to all cruisers. However, the GRAFFITI posted at some ports, in every countryside, and every city is in my opinion the biggest offense to all people visiting the Mediterranean Ports. If it were artistic in nature, it would fit in perfectly with all the beautiful art in Europe.

We wish the ship would have allowed us to buy pictures at a later date online. They are very expensive and most of the time at the end of the ship you have spent all your money. We know we would have bought online at a later time if we had the opportunity to do so.

Get a room near the front, the forward elevator goes right into the buffet, and don't miss the free liquor tasting each night at 8, they give out increasingly better scotch in the liquor shop each night.
