If driving to port, drop off your luggage first. We made the mistake of entering the parking lot first, had to pay the attendant to exit eventhough we told him we needed to drop our luggage. Then we had to reenter after dropping the luggage and had to pay again. Next time we will op from a private parking lot and shutler.

Clientele are primarily retired. Good to know if you are younger and are expecting to mingle with others of a similar age. Having said that, there is a benefit to cruising with this demographic, as they are more laid back, and are very friendly, welcoming, and social.

Be smart, plan ahead, ask the right questions and check your billing statement often. They have a self service printer but I tried to use it and it didn’t work for me. We also tried the Navigator app which they offered free over their onboard WiFi but it was not kept up to date very well and there was no way to communicate with others in our party for planning or anything. If going to Panama Canal, watch the documentaries available on board before. They don’t give much information, no play-by-play or anything. And get up early if you want to watch entering the locks! Lake Gatun was unimpressive... no “tour”, we just sat there until they let us leave again. Timing there is all subject to change based on ship traffic at the time.

Check and see if all repairs/updating have been completed before booking a cruise on this ship. The ship itself is nice but it just was not ready and many passengers were inconvenienced.

Get to know one of the waiters in each of the bars that you frequent. They will know ou by name and what your drink of choice is.

No launderette on board. Use the laundry bag in your room for $20 per bag and stuff it full. Works great. Also, go to the Explorer's Café on deck 10 to see the canal as you enter. Local guide is located there. Then, move to the bow of the ship when the sun comes up. When you in the 3rd lock, check out the view from the aft pool deck for a great picture of the whole Gatun locks.

Bring back the old days; HAL is no longer offering the outstanding service that we have been used to.

Good ship, good crew, great food! Did this back to back from oasis of the seas. Food much better on HAL, entertainment much better on RC. Smaller and easier to get around fast. More personal experience on HAL, like the relaxing pace of older quieter crowd. Not as much "fun" in ways but we came to relax and be up all night so will do HAL again.

Nice size ship at about 1900 passengers - big enough to have everything you would need (bars, restaurants, entertainment), but not so big as to feel overwhelming.

HAL has destroyed the Crows Nest. The Explorations Cafe, library, daily trivia, desktop computers, and afternoon happy hour are gone. The cafe has been combined into the center bar resulting in lineups and a lot of extra work for the staff. Terrible. New touch screen digital information pool tables have taken up too much space near the former Explorations Cafe. Seldom used. Many comfortable sofas and chairs removed. At least there are still chairs available at the front windows to enjoy the ocean view. Huge blunder on the part of HAL.
