Be prepared if you have never been on the ship to be lost most of the week and trying to find things and also find your way through the buffets

Look at the Compass daily and highlight things of interest. There are some cool things to do that I would not have known the ship offered if I hadn't had sat down each morning to review it.

Get up early if you want a lounger. And don’t be one of those people who save them. If your leaving for more than 30mimutes give up your bed. If everyone did that there would be a good rotation of beds.

Don't be afraid of "My Time Dinning" we had very minimal wait times. If you don't want to gain a lot of weight stay away from the buffet. Not that it wasn't good but the more food you see the more you eat. LOL

Do not book a room near the open area by the aft elevator area. Very noisy. Entertainment was on deck 4 but could be easily heard several decks above.

DON'T use Royal Caribbean !!! Try Carnival, I would have given them five stars on every category. We took the fall New England Canada cruise. Keep in mind if you take this cruise it will be full of elderly people. Love them but you have to have patience with all the canes and walkers. Good practice for us though, Made us feel young. ha ha

Room location is always critical so that you don't have excessive hallway noise, or noise from a bar or restaurant above or below you. 8124 on Serenade was very peaceful.

Smaller ships might not have all the bells and whistles but they have better, more caring staff and crew. You meet so many more people on smaller ships. Try Serenade, you will not be disappointed!

Expect a more laid-back cruise with a more mature crowd. It was comforting to us, since it felt like our kiddos were on a cruise with a lot of grandparents watching out for them. Smaller sized ship, so if you're looking for ice skating, bowling, promenade, big waterslides, and navigation around the ship was not as open as some ships. Be prepared for a VERY full pool deck. Was challenging to get a lounger pool side due to people "saving" chairs, and not really being there. We really enjoyed the coffee shop area (pretty view). You had to really be intentional to get to certain areas, we could have gone the whole cruise and missed the arcade, shopping area, and photos.

Make sure you keep your phone in airplane mode to keep from roaming in International waters. We talked to people who ended up with a $600.00 cell phone bill from the cruise. The Internet packages were great for our group, we bought a family package so we could text and plan meet ups. Even with the package, keep your phone in airplane mode!
