Review summary

2nd time on Serenade of the Seas, and 2nd time on the New England/Canada cruise. I'd do it again! We've already booked our next Royal Caribbean cruise for the end of 2018.

Embarkation

Dropped off my taxi and gentleman immediately took our luggage. Stood in line maybe 10 minutes and off we went to the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
This was my 2nd time on Serenade taking this Canada cruise so I knew what to expect in comparison to my last trip on RC. Unlike my first cruise, the Windjammer food was awesome every single night, even the last night. A+++ My only complaint is that the Windjammer doesn't stay open a little later. We ate in the main dining room 3 nights and the food was good there as well, but rather have the Windjammer options. I don't waste money on specialty dining. It would be nice if one of the stores sold little cracker or candy snacks and bottled soft drinks/water.

Onboard Activities

Everything was great.

Entertainment

This being my 2nd time on Serenade taking this Canada cruise I was disappointed. Last year we had an incredible Olympic gymnast who performed and Earl Turner signing another night who is always a joy to watch. This time around there was a comedian who was just okay, that coming from my husband who loves any type of comedy. The 2nd act was a Canadian cover band called Rookee or something like that. They were incredible; amazing lead singer. Problem was they only did some songs from the 50s and 60s.

Service and Staff

I'm giving this an excellent because of our stateroom attendant. I believe his name was Terry Celestine or Constantine, but definitely Terry. He was incredible and very attentive. Being a diabetic, he always made sure I had enough ice for my medicine and that my mini-fridge was cold and working. Always recognized us by our first names. Just an incredible guy. Restaurant staff and NextCruise staff were also very friendly. Cruise Director Carly B is always wonderful, friendly and entertaining. As well was the Activity Director. I only had to go to Guest Services a couple of times but they seemed annoyed that we were even bothering them.

Ship Quality

The ship was always clean but Serenade is an old girl and needs some refurbishing in some areas. Starting to see some rust.

Cabin / Stateroom

Loved our balcony cabin. I had a Jr. Suite last time and this cabin was just a good. Only complaint is the bed mattress was unbearably hard. Both my husband and I had a hard time sleeping on it, and woke up with painful stiff backs every morning.

Ship tip

Room location is always critical so that you don't have excessive hallway noise, or noise from a bar or restaurant above or below you. 8124 on Serenade was very peaceful.

Ports of call

Boston, Massachusetts Did not visit port

This was just our departure port and we did nothing here other than board the ship and then depart and head back to the airport.

Bar Harbor, Maine

I give Ba..Ha...Ba.. as those native pronounce it, an excellent rating mostly because the excursion. We took the 4 hour excursion with the lobster bake. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! It's a must do. We ate at a restaurant close to the port area so after eating we walked around and did shopping on our own. Just a delightful day.

Saint John, New Brunswick

With no port for the ship, you always have to take a tender, but it's a quick and easy process. We did a 6 1/2 hour excursion and saw many things. Went to an Irish pub for a beer/soda, did some shopping at their City Market, saw the reversing falls rapids, had lunch at the historic St. Martin fishing village and spent time at the Caves looking for lucky stones.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Another long day tour... but still interesting sites. Shopping, the beautiful City Garden tour, a maple factory tour, Peggy's Cove tour and the weather could not have been more perfect, and a visit to one of the Titantic cemeteries.

Disembarkation

Just busy and chaotic because the Boston port doesn't have accommodations to have people get checked off ship.

Seems like you found a class of ship you enjoy. I have my favorite too! Hope your next cruise is just as pleasurable, if not better.
