Review summary
This was my third cruise on Oceania and by far the most disappointing. A virus was detected and approximately 100 people were directly affected - the problem was that it severely hampered availability to services for 12 of the 14 day cruise. We paid for concierge service and didn't receive it. In addition, the library and laundry facilities were closed. We didn't pack personal clothes and expected to be able to wash our own socks and underwear but couldn't... instead ended up paying $50 to have these items washed. During my last cruises, I spent hours in their library and that was a highlight but this time everything was locked down. In addition, the port of Aruba wouldn't let the healthy people visit the island and although our paid excursions were refunded, no further compensation was offered.
Overall it was not one of my favorite trips. The crew was not communicative for the first days of the outbreak and the rumors aboard the ship were flying... it wasn't until many days later that the captain started giving us facts regarding the viral outbreak. That helped but it was a bit late. The stewards were working non-stop and were helpful and always pleasant. Their staff truly is the best.
