Nightmare of the Pacific by josh132199

Ship: Quantum of the Seas

I'm really not the one who likes to leave reviews, especially negative ones, but this is one I felt obligated to write. We chose this cruise as a family of 8 trip out of Seattle for a 7 night Alaska Glacier Cruise on Quantum of the Seas 15 -21 May 2023. From the get go, lines were hectic and lengthy at the terminal. It seemed that they did not have near enough staff to accommodate guests on the ship. We boarded the boat at around 1pm, we were informed that we would get our bags before dinner time delivered to our room but we did not receive them until the next day. That means only the clothes on our back for that afternoon and night. Room service was nonexistent the first couple of nights on the cruise, we ran out of towels and toilet paper before we had to request room service. Knowing the advanced gratuity we pay, lack of room service was just unacceptable. The excursions lines in Juneau were abysmal, with delays and wait times. Everything was a struggle. On about the 5th day of the cruise, my 2 year old daughter got extremely sick with uncontrollable vomiting at around 11pm. We took her down to medical where the doctor and nurse saw her, they literally had no response for her condition only giving us blank stares. We were confused and basically had to pry a diagnosis out of the nurse and doctor and talk them into giving her something other than throw-up bags (which she was throwing up in front of them) so they gave her some motion sickness medication. They did not give an explanation of what may be causing her illness and would not even administer the meds to my daughter, as my wife and I along with the doctor had to figure out how to give my daughter the medicine. It was nerve racking receiving eerily silence from the doctor and his handling of the situation. We took her back to the room, she continued the vomit every hour, ruining all our clothes and sheets and came down with a fever. I call back down to medical requesting baby Tylenol after telling them about the fever, and the nurse tells me she would have to call the doctor and charge yet another doctor visit fee for doing so. She then says she will schedule a doctor's appointment at 8am the next morning which was 5 hours from the time I was calling. I then responded by saying that you expect me to let my child to continue to vomit and burn up with a fever for 5 hours even after we previously visited you guys 2 hours ago and you want to double charge me for a medical visit?? She said we can schedule an appointment for 8am. We hung up and about 5 mins later the nurse called back saying I concerned her with the phone call I placed earlier and that she called the doctor and stated it was ok for her to provide us baby tylenol for the fever. I went to pick up the tylenol and adminstered it to my child, and her fever did go down and she did get better. Overall this was a very scary situation and the service provided by the medical staff only made it worse knowing we were stranded in the middle of the Pacific ocean with this being our only medical care. We were charged $470 the following day, even though we are military and have Tricare Prime, we are stuck with this bill to make a claim. The following day, my wife, brother in law, sister in law and myself came down with the Norovirus and spent the final two days of cruise and travel day after throwing up and on the toilet. 7 out 8 people on our family got severely ill on the cruise. My sister in law also saw medical and they informed her that she had kidney issues that was causing her illness, only to find out when she got home to see her care provider that she indeed had Norovirus. Needless to say it seemed that the medical staff did not want to inform us that Norovirus was being spread around the ship. When we got home, on 22 May, I immediately request medical record documentation and medical bill to make my medical claim with insurance to be reimbursed $470 that Royal Caribbean charged me. I submitted all documentation and was told it would be sent in 7-10 business days. It is currently 21 June, almost a month after requested and I have yet to receive any response from Royal Caribbean. I have contacted them 4 times in the past month resending them requested documentation each time but still receive zero response. Each time I talked to customer service they assured me I would receive expediated care and response but never heard anything once the phone calls ended. This has been a huge inconvenience and I'm sick of dealing with this trip. Not to mention, 2 port stops were cancelled and glacier cruise cancelled during the trip. Anything that could went wrong went wrong and the customer service is atrocious. I felt like this cruise was a money grab and the exact opposite of a pleasant Royal Caribbean cruise my wife and I took in Jan 2020. I'm still waiting on my daughter’s medical records to make a claim. I'm tired of wasting time on this horrible experience. I will longer sail Royal Caribbean.

Great crew by koulikani

Overall, it was a good experience. Great relaxation trip. Wish the weather had been nicer to make it up Endicott Arm, but 50s and 60s in early May is hard to beat for Alaska.

Not the Royal experience of other ships by RichOtey

It didn't feel like the normal Royal experience. We still enjoyed ourselves and want to do another Alaska cruise on a different ship in the future.

Lackluster sampler cruise by 3rotor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

If you are a first time cruiser you'll love it, if you are not then you wont. RC do well to be organised, and quite a clean ship and good crew. Pricing for things has skyrockets post covid, and the quality is defiantly showing. The RC app is totally broken you cant message anyone in your party - so youll need internet or the KEY to plan things and contact people. I wouldn't cruise on this ship if you are foodie, nor if you have kids or plan to use the kids club. Quantum lacks the intimacy that you would get on smaller ships. Go if you are celebrating a birthday or with your mates for shag and drink.

A Great Sailing Between Two Great Cities! by PacificPrince

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

This cruise was what I expected. Vancouver is one of my favorite port cities along with Barcelona & Honolulu. Sea days do not bother me at all on a big ship like Quantum. This itinerary had 5 of them - but we visited 3 ports along the way and had overnights in Lahaina & Honolulu. The crew was friendly, the ship was beautiful & clean, the ports were great. Food was good for days 1-7, dinner at Windjammer so-so for days 8-10. My lowest grade on this trip - tenders at Lahaina, My highest grade - disembarkation operation in Honolulu - unbelievably quick & easy. Overall, A+ (I mean, C’mon - I was on a cruise to Honolulu instead of at work!)

Very Disappointed with Royal Customer Service by ktchapman76

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

THE SHIP WAS NOT HAF SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT AND IT WAS NOT MOVING AT NORMAL CRUISE SPEED. SO THEY TOOK AWAY THE GLACIER VIEW DAY. THEN WE HAD A MEDICAL EMERGENCY THAT TOOK 12 HOURS AND WE LOST A PORT LEAVING US ON A 7 DAY CRUISE 5 SEA DAYS. WE CRUISE WITH ROYAL ALOT AN ASKED FOR A DISCOUNT OR CREDIT TOWARDS OUR NEXT CRUISE. WE WERE TOLD THEY CAN CHANGE THE ITINERARY AT ANY TIME. IF WE DIDN'T LIKE IT FIND ANOTHER CRUISE LINE. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICES

It wasn't my favorite cruise but it was definitely one of my favorite itineraries!! by MrBucketlist

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my first full capacity cruise after sailing on 3 beautiful low capacity cruises since the pandemic began. As far as the cruise experience itself, it was one of the worst I've had in a while but Alaska made up for it. It's so conflicting to explain because for every bad part of the cruise there was something that came back and made up for it in a good way. The staff and crew were just not ready for this amount of the people. I would suggest watching my full review/ cruise documentary about this on youtube just search MrBucketlist Quantum of the Seas Honest Review. Enjoy your cruise!!!

love ship and crew, dont like destination by RealtorValentin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

i was on same boat 2 times before, i love this ship and crew, but i was never know fact this is crossing will be involved with pirates area in yemen, fact we have security on board with army ''TOYS'' made me nerveous from time it is was annonce and last 6 days of cruise from 16 days i was not feel comfortable, from over 30 cruises i take it is was first time in my life situation ..alsoi i was very unhappy with noise in my room 10230 in previous cruise on may 2nd and after this similar line 12230 with pneumatic sounds noise on middle of night, made me feel tired and dont sleep well for week, it is finally was resolved on this cruise, but i already was feel exosted from non sleeping for 1 week, i got same size room just diffrent side of ship 8630 and it is was not noise,, also royal caribbean was ssold for this cruise internet service, which was not working for many days at all, and few days in and out all time, mot only slow.. only highlights of this cruise was great captain Sresco Ban and cruise director Ken Rush who made as feel optimistic..i also meet couple from russia room 13210 who come from moscow and dont read and dont speak any language exsept russian, unfortenatly on this cruise was not one person from personal was able to translate for this guest programm, so i did assist this couple during this cruise, i think if company selling cruise russian speaking clients, should have programm and menue in restaurant at least omn russian language ,in case dont have russian ambassador...if i have knowledge about this destination and pirates area i will not booking this cruise, we all passenger on board was nerveous for 6 days after we learn about this situation

Worst Cruise Ever.....Worst Ship Ever by judyk01949

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I have been cruising with Royal Caribbean exclusively for over 15 years.  I have loved every cruise I have been on.  I loved the Voyager, I loved the Explorer...Loved the Oasis.  Hated the Quantum.  This was the worst cruise I have ever been on.  Restaurants horrible.....all the technology did not work.  Shows horrible had to stand in line for more than a half hour to see anything (not worth the crowded lines to see a show).  Cruising should be relaxing not standing in line.  No show is worth this stress.  Leaving the ship was the worst experience of my life.  Hundreds of people trying to get suitcases and go through customs at the same time.  Treated like a her of cattle.  I could not wait to get home.  Don't Cruise southern carribean in April all the beaches were full of seaweed.  After all these years with Royal Caribbean we are looking for another Cruise line.
