Quantum of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Glacier (Vancouver To Seattle)

Sail date: May 08, 2023

Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

It didn't feel like the normal Royal experience. We still enjoyed ourselves and want to do another Alaska cruise on a different ship in the future.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Vancouver was very organized and smooth. Like other ports, they need to enforce the boarding times so there isn't a mob waiting to board. The worst part was not Royal's fault. We didn't sail until 3am, but you couldn't leave the ship once you boarded due to Canadian customs.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was okay but not as good as other ships.

Coastal Kitchen

2 out of 5

There was a large group who were loud and obnoxious all week that made for a bad experience if you were there when they were. Even then, still not the same experience as on other Royal ships.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There weren't any shows that made us feel we were missing something if we didn't go.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room attendant was good and our waiter Handry was excellent. Other than those two, everyone else seemed uninterested in being there.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was nice, but storage was a little tight. Had one night that sounded like they were taking a jackhammer to the floor behind our bed at midnight while unclogging a toilet, but other than that, it was quiet.

Ship tip

Lower expectations. Alaska and the views were great, even with overcast skies. It just didn't feel up to Royal standards.

Ports of call

Sitka, Alaska

4 out of 5
Very pretty sailing into port. Not much at the port and a huge line for the shuttle into town.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
No excursion, just walked around and did our own bar crawl. Nice little town.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

4 out of 5
We didn't go in as far as I thought we would, but there was a lot of ice in the water. It's still a nice experience.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed taking the tram up the mountain... even with it raining, there are great views.

Seattle, Washington

3 out of 5
Went straight to the airport.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
We went a few days early and enjoyed walking along the waterfront.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Seattle was a smooth process. Shared rides is a bit of a walk but not horrible, just a small area when everyone is there with all of their stuff.
