Review summary

Overall we really enjoyed it minus the food element of it.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very smooth, from the time we arrived (during designated time) we were flowing right along; from arrival to being onboard took about 30 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Overall the complimentary food was average at best. The specialty restaurants were very good. Room service was ok, usually took 45-60 minutes for your food; the quality was hit and miss. Windjammer buffet was horrible!!!!

Windjammer Marketplace

2 out of 5

This was truly one of the worst buffets that I have ever experienced!! The variety was lacking big time and the quality of food was not good at all. Nothing like being fed the same basic meal day after day for a week; if you have the ability find other food options throughout the ship.

Jamie's Italian

5 out of 5

Fantastic service and food!!! Really nice ambiance and comfort.

Concierge Club

4 out of 5

Servers struggled to keep up with service; difficult to receive a drink. Food was good overall but serving sizes were very small; you are able to ask for more if you’d like.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Overall there seemed to be a decent mixture of things to do. The Vitality Spa was very nice, for a price of course.

Solarium

5 out of 5

The Solarium was a nice peaceful place to enjoy the pool and hot tubs without young children (16 and up).

Royal Esplanade

4 out of 5

Royal Esplanade was decent; as usual there were some pretty decent sales throughout. Nice mixture shops, bars, and restaurants.

Casino Royale

2 out of 5

Very little variety for game selection.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The main shows (Feathers and Sequins) were not good at all; the comedian was alright but since they allowed children into the shows you could tell that the comedian was on a short leash so it was pretty bland. The staff members hosting the small events were very engaging and funny for the most part. We had one person, her name was “Bella from China” (her words) and she was absolutely hilarious while hosting one of the trivia sessions!! The only reason I rated as high as a three is because of people like Bella and the Cruise Director Mike.

Cool place to watch an event.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Overall the staff was very friendly and helpful. However; the highlight was our room attendant Mark!!!!!!! By the end of the cruise we were actually sad that we wouldn’t be seeing Mark again because he almost felt like family; a very nice and genuine individual! Thank you MARK!!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was very clean throughout the entirety of the cruise; there was continuous cleaning.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great views from balcony, spacious enough for the two of us to not be in each other’s way and the balcony had plenty of room for us to relax out there.

Ship tip

Be prepared to wait for elevators.

Ports of call

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
Neat little port, the gondola to the top of the mountain is a must; great views!

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
Very nice place but we didn’t arrive until the evening so quite a bit of the businesses had already shut down. We did get the chance to eat at the Irish Times Pub and that was really tasty and authentic.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

3 out of 5
Sadly we had to turn around due to over abundance of ice in the water so we missed the glacier. Was cool to see the small growlers and icebergs in the water though.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Loved the small feel of the town and the train tour into the mountains was great!

Juneau, Alaska

4 out of 5
Did whale watching and had a very good experience. Due to time constraints didn’t have the opportunity to do anything else.

Seattle, Washington

Bella is THE BEST! We just got of the ship and she made it so much fun.

Willwork4cruz you are absolutely correct about food choices being subjective; the issue was that over a full week of attempting to find something that I enjoyed I was unable to find anything enjoyable. I will say that I am an individual that prefers my foods to have bold distinct flavors and that was just not the case. I will say the food flavors had the consistency of what would be served at a large cafeteria, not very seasoned which is usually the case when wide varieties of individuals are being served with different dietary needs. I hope this helps.

Glad you had fun. What didn't you like about the buffet? Food is 100% subjective so what you don't like could be another's favorite. It really helps if you gives info what you didn't like.

Thanks for sharing. I'm going in September so I've been watching and reading all the reviews to give me a better idea of what to do and where.
