Review summary

I had a really good time and I’m glad I went. It checked Alaska off my bucket list.

Embarkation

We had an 11 checkin. We got there early. They were already checking people in. So we checked in and then just had to wait in chairs until the ship was cleared for boarding. Very smooth process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate most dinners in the main dining room. Food and service were always great. Breakfast was always at the buffet. It was the same food for the most part, but such a good variety you didn’t get bored. The pizza at Sorrento’s was the best cruise pizza I have ever had. And the little coffee and tea shop next door was a great place to grab a little some and relax.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The kids enjoyed the enclosed pool area with the heated pool, the rock climbing wall, and the Seaplex. Adult activities were mostly trivia, small games, karaoke and some bingo. What was missing was pool parties and games, sail away party. (Things that we’re used to doing on previous cruises)

Entertainment

I always go to the nightly stage shows. They were just fair. The welcome aboard show and also the farewell show was just a comedian. He was good but not what expected at those 2 shows. They never did a show where crew members go around the theater with their country flags. Most other cruises have that. I really missed that. Before the cruise I asked other people that did an Alaskan cruise what kind if music do they play on the cruise, since I’m used to Caribbean music. No one could remember. Now I know why they couldn’t remember. There was no music around the pools.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Our kids didn’t go to the kid’s clubs but enjoyed the Seaplex and other activities.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Always top notch.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness was great. I really liked that they had a hand washing stations before you entered the buffet not just hand sanitizer. The layout of the ship was fine. But the stores in the Promenade were all high end. They really should add some regular, down to earth stores. Ones regular people could afford.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our group all had balconies on deck 9. They were very nice.

Ports of call

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

We dud a whale watching excursion thru Royal. The boat was really nice and we saw plenty of whales.

Victoria, British Columbia

We did a bus tour of Scenic Victoria and it dropped us off at the harbor. It was the worst tour ever. (And I really like tours). The man drove around the streets and showed us houses and told us how expensive they were. The harbor was supposed to have street vendors. It was crowded with people but no vendors like advertised.

Juneau, Alaska

My husband and a friend did the Seaplane excursion thru Royal. They loved it. My gang went to see the puppies at a musher camp. The excursion was thru Royal. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot of things too about the dogs.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

Not as exciting as I thought it would be. Did see some small icebergs. Probably would have seen more if it was earlier in the season.

Skagway, Alaska

No excursion. We actually had 2 booked but both were canceled. Very disappointed. So we just walked around and shopped. We did do the Days of 98 show. It was OK.

Seattle, Washington

No excursion. We grabbed the hop on hop off bus and went to Space Needle, the Giant Wheel and Pike’s Place Market. I really enjoyed it there. I would definitely go back there. Needed more time to explore.

Disembarkation

Easy and quick.
