Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Well where do we start, We arrived early with lots of excitment and antisipation to be told the ship docked late and embarkation would be a couple of hours late, no big drama, we were all placed in a tent with chairs for about 50 people 2 toilets ,1 male, 1 female, we had NO WATER,NO FOOD and NO INFORMATION , by about 2.00 pm our numbers had grown to about 600 people still with NO WATER, NO FOOD and NO INFORMATION. No more seating with lots of elderly and very frail CUSTOMERS, But worse was to come after our tent would hold no more all passengers who arrived later [we arrived at 11AM and were issued with number 2 tickets for embarkation] were sent directly to the terminal, at about 1.00pm passengers started to disembark so we thought it would not be long now but guess what happened next all the late arrives who were sent to the terminal started going onto the ship,so at 4.30 pm five and a half hours after arriving and after spending over 14 hours flying from Australia,we gave up and walked over to the terminal to find that the people going onto the ship had tickets numbered 17 ,we got on the ship at about 5.00 pm 6 hours arfter arriving but there was still elderly frail passingers still waiting in that tent at 7.30 pm still with NO WATER,NO FOOD and NO SERVICE whoever was responable for this disaster embarkation should be sent to NCLs cargo division as cattle are treated better than we were This was our second AND LAST cruise with NCL what ever the reason for the ship to be delaid there is NO EXCUSS to treat your paying customers like that, if anyone is seriously thinking of cruiesing with NCL think VERY SERIOSLY from what passengers on board told me Celebrity, Carnival and Royal Carbbean are a class above NCL . NEVER NEVER AGAIN NCL

My First Cruise by JoanneJ1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was first class. We had an inside room that wasn't the largest but there was plenty of storage for all of our things. The rooms were clean and the housekeepers were very polite and helpful. The restaurants had first class service and the food was outstanding. All the help were nice and patient.Anything we asked for was immediately brought to us. The entertainment was just as good as any I've seen in Reno or Las Vegas.

A Wonderful Family Experience by JoanneJ1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This cruise had the most beautiful scenery. Glacier Bay was breath taking. The cruise members were so friendly and absolutely great to the grandkids. They waited on them hand and foot. All of the entertainment was appropriate for them. If the grandkids didn't like what they were serving the waiters would get them whatever the kids wanted.

Fantastic cruise on Noweigian Starr by SandraT7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my first cruise. I have not gone before due to sea sickness. However, going to Alaska wasn't too bad with some help from Bonimine. The weather was the best that has ever been, sunny the whole trip, seems like a first. The Star was impressive with dining rooms, bars and entertainment areas for all people. I found many quiet places on the ship and enjoyed them a lot. Sitting on the bow of the ship for days was wonderful. I thought the food and service were exceptional for so many people. There were activities at all times, so one could be busy or just enjoy the scenes going by on this great adventure

Our First Fabulous Cruise by AmyM18

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The "star" was beautiful. We were very impressed with the professional and personal contact of the staff. They remembered our names and there wasn't ever a time when you walked by a staff person and they didn't say "hello". We loved the food, we were able to try many different dishes that we might not have tried in normal every day dining. The ship was very clean. There were many activities to do or just have a drink in one of the many bars. They seemed very organized when leaving the ship at ports of call. They kept us very informed on what to do when disembarking and even just the every day activities. We loved the ship!!!

Very disappointing cruise. by MichaelW22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Ship's failure to manage safely the disembarkation of passengers ruined the trip, leaving you with the impression that you were not safe and could not trust the Ship's officers to take care of an emergency. It was very troubling to say the least.

Alaska - Inside Passage - Awesome! by CyA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our 2nd cruise, 1st on NCL. We were very impressed with this ship. The staff was very kind. The decor was fancy but not gaudy. For those of you worried about getting sick....this ship had a person and a hand washing station containing hand sanitizer at every port, every restaurant and at every elevator. We had the cleanest, germ free hands in the country! For those of you worried about rough seas and seasickness, we rarely felt this huge ship rock. For almost the entire 2500 miles, the seas were 0 to 3 feet tall. Glass like.

Alaska Great - Ship OK by JoeP10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was in excellent condition. We booked an outside stateroom on deck 4 for 4 people (two adults, two large teens). The stateroom was a bit cramped at times. Since we were only in the room to sleep, change clothes, and shower, the cramped condition was not a big issue. Overall, there was plenty of room to unpack clothes and store your lugage out of site. One surprise with the stateroom is - the room was listed with a capacity of 4. I expected two bunks. Instead there was only one bunk and the other was a roll away bed under one of the twin beds. When the roll away bed was set up. It was placed between the two twin beds, so you would have a wall to wall bed for 3 people. During the day the roll away bed was stowed away under the twin bed. It would have made more sense, it there was two bunks, which would have given more room to move around in the late evening and early morning. The food was average. The menu choices in the dinning rooms seemed to be less appealing as the cruise progressed. There did not seem to be enough activities on board. The onboard movie theater only showed the movie of the day twice. The times of the showings were inconsistent from day to day. Also, the move times were not always at convenient times. The ships band only played at pool side 2-3 times and for not more than 90 minutes. There were two bands. I don't recall the name of one of the bands, but the band Freedom was much better. The cruise director was a great. He seemed to be cracking jokes all the time. He hosted the onboard Newlywed game. I wish they ran this game every night on the ship. It made great entertainment. I liked the Freestyle cruising dining options, but I wish, shorts would be part of the casual atmosphere in the dining rooms in the evening. I thought it was a hassle to change clothes every time for dinner. I was extremely satisfied with the Alaskan ports of call. A little disappointed with Victoria. However, it is a beautiful city. As for the ship, it was just an average experience.

I'M GOING AGAIN! by TinaR4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

WE RECENTLY SAILED ON THE NORWEGIAN STAR, A FREESTYLE CRUISE. THIS WAS MY FIFTH CRUISE AND I HAD HIGH EXPECTATIONS. THIS TRIP EXCEEDED THEM. THE SHIP WAS EXTREMELY CLEAN. THERE WAS A STOMACH VIRUS GOING AROUND IN ALASKA AT THE TIME WE WENT AND THE SHIP TOOK EVERY PRECAUTION FOR THE PASSENGERS NOT TO GET IT. WE HAD HAND SANITIZING STATIONS AT EVERY ENTRANCE/EXIT TO EVERY DINING AREA AND AT GANGWAYS FOR EMBARKING AND DISEMBARKING THE SHIP AT PORTS. WE DID NOT HEAR OF OR SEE ANYONE SICK ON THE SHIP AT ALL, SEASICK OR OTHERWISE. THEY PUT OUR HEALTH CONCERNS FIRST. THE BOAT SAILED VERY SMOOTHLY AND THE WEATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL!! THE ALL-INTERNATIONAL CREW WAS VERY ATTENTIVE AND HELPFUL. THE HUMOR OF OUR ROOM STEWARDS, THE SPACIOUSNESS OF OUR MINI-SUITE AND THE ABILITY TO SEE WHALES AND A BEAR WHILE ON OUR BALCONY MADE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN THE TRIP. THE CABIN HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH STORAGE, CLOSET, DRAWER AND CABINET SPACE FOR THE THREE OF US TO HIDE AWAY LUGGAGE AND HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEEDED AT OUR FINGERTIPS. THE BATHROOMS WERE THE LARGEST OF ANY I'VE SEEN WITH PLENTY OF COUNTERSPACE FOR TOILETRIES TO BE LEFT OUT. WE LOVED THE WATER PRESSURE IN THE SHOWER AND THE SPACE SAVING SHOWER DOORS. THE PUBLIC AREAS WERE OPEN AND WELL-DESIGNED, WITH LOTS OF WINDOW SEATING WITH OCEANVIEWS. THE OUTSIDE DECKS AND TABLES WERE ALWAYS CLEAN AND INVITING AS WAS THE POOL WITH TWO SPIRALING SLIDES AND THE MANY HOT TUBS THEY HAD AVAILABLE. THE NIGHTCLUB ACTS WERE RELAXING, WE ESPECIALLY LIKED LISTENING TO THE THE R&B OLDIES SINGER IN THE CAROUSEL LOUNGE AND THE COMEDIAN THEY HAD ON BOARD. THE KARAOKE SESSIONS WERE GOOD AND THE BINGO WAS VERY WELL RUN BY THE CRUISE DIRECTOR STAFF WITH NICE CASH AND FREE CRUISE PRIZES. THE MAIN DINING ROOMS OFFERED OCEANVIEW SEATING AND A NICE VARIETY ON THE MENUS, ALTHOUGH THE FIRST DAY AT SEA THERE WAS A 45 MINUTE WAIT TO GET IN. AFTER THAT, WE HAD NO TROUBLE GETTING A TABLE. WE FOUND IT RELATIVELY EASY TO MAKE RESERVATIONS AT MOST OF THE SPECIALTY RESTAURAUNTS. THE BUFFET-STYLE DINING WAS GREAT AS THERE WERE NO LINES TO WAIT IN AND SEVERAL STATIONS OF FOOD SERVICE, INCLUDING THE CHEFS MAKING YOUR FAVORITES UP RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. THE BREAKFASTS THERE WERE THE BEST. THE CREW MADE YOU FEEL PAMPERED THERE TOO. THE 24-HOUR RESTAURAUNT WAS A NICE CONVENIENCE; MORE OF A VARIETY WOULD BE MY ONLY SUGGESTION. THERE WERE BBQ'S OUT ON DECK AND A SEPARATE OUTDOOR GRILL WITH HAMBURGERS, HOTDOGS AND COLD CUTS FROM BRUNCH TO THE AFTERNOON HOURS. OVERALL, THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT IN ALL DINING AREAS, ESPECIALLY THE SWORDFISH IN ONE OF THE MAIN DINING ROOMS. THE EXCURSIONS WERE VERY WELL RUN AND GUIDES VERY INFORMATIVE. WE DID NOT TAKE CHILDREN THIS TIME BUT THE KIDS AND PRE-TEENS WE SPOKE TO TOLD US THEY LOVED THE ACTIVITIES FOR THEM ONBOARD. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CRUISE SHIP TO EVERYONE!

A great time by TamaraM3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We cruised on the NCL Star ship and it was nice; however, it wasn't great to walk through the Market Cafe to get to the rear and cleanse hands each time. It is too bad a person can't walk outside to avoid this cafe to get to the back. The food was good, but I enjoyed the food more on my 5 day NCL southern caribean cruise last year better. The cleaning staff was very nice and effective. The entertainment was very nice. I thought it went well. I didn't like the fact that my onboard credit wasn't there for me on day one. I had to show my papers to the reception desk and it took 3 days before I got the $150.00 on board credit.

Crusing on a budget with grandchildren by MaryC38

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Clean, clean, clean. I never worried about someone breaking into our cabin...safety was high. Our room was very small for 4 people, but still the cleanup people managed to keep it looking nice. I would get a bigger room next time. If possiable I think the globes of cleaning would be an excelent advertizement for you if you put them in grocery's stores or schools. Very smart move of yours. I'm thinking of ways to get this into our school and local grocery store, if you have any ideas of where to start, let me know. Where would you get the globes & how much would they cost? Most of all did it work?

Great for the Whole Family! by VeraB2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Norwegian Star is a beautiful ship. Let's just say it was spotless. Every part of the ship was shiny and clean. We liked the fact that guests were encouraged to sanitize their hands before entering any restaurant and when coming back from a port of call. The staff was courteous, efficient and pleasant. The shows were so much better than we expected. The entire experience was excellent because every member of our family (including a teenager and pre-teen) were happy with the activities on board.

Very relex cruise by JulieK4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

we enjoyed the ship very much. We did not feel any rocking except one day when we were at top speed. We did not even have the after rocking feeling at all after we left the ship. Weather was wanderful. There were plenty to eat and food was good. Room layout was good. We had four people in one room and we manage to get around each other ok.

A mixed bag of triumphs &disapointments by JoanB10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise on the Norwegian Star, and possibly our last. We booked the Alaska Inside Passage, which has gorgeous ports of call and lots of shore excursion opportunities. The ship itself is beautiful, I was particularly impressed with the stateroom bathroom size (big!), spa area, and the Grand Atrium. Unfortunately the food and beverage service leaves much to be desired. We paid for the unlimited refills on soda, and it was practcally an act of congress to even get served in the dining areas. The menu choices were severely limited in comparison to other cruise lines, and the quality and portion sizes were not what they should have been. The dining areas and lounges were also obviously short staffed-many times we had to wait to be seated with a plethora open tables in view, and service was chronically slow. We sailed with some friends who were mistakenly billed for a bottle of wine which they never ordered, and the manager refused to refund the charge in spite of the fact they had no signed receipt as proof they ordered it! Unfortunately these issued have tainted what should have been a delightful cruise experience.
