Norwegian Star

7 Night Alaska & Glacier Bay (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 20, 2006

Ship: Norwegian Star

Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

The Ship's failure to manage safely the disembarkation of passengers ruined the trip, leaving you with the impression that you were not safe and could not trust the Ship's officers to take care of an emergency. It was very troubling to say the least.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
If you want good food, you must pay extra per person charge to eat at the better restaurants.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was of mixed quality: good singers, poor dancers, wonderful acrobats and a great magician. There were no decent movies shown, or just too few. Overall, an offering of mixed quality.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
The crew let us down at the disembarkation and embarkation. The comings and goings from the ship were not well handled.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The Ship is large, beautiful, and clean, but has a major design flaw: Deck 6 is cut off at midship so that passengers cannot pass through on one side. This is unsafe and inconvenient.

Cabin / Stateroom

The city tour and tour of the Butchart Gardens was very nice.

Skagway, Alaska

The train ride was fun and entertaining.
Don't Miss: Train ride

Juneau, Alaska

The ride out to Mendenhall Glacier was great. Our bus driver, guide, Brandon?, was just terrific.
Don't Miss: Mendenhall Glacier

Pros: The indoor pool and spa.

Cons: Safety. Disembarkation in Skagway was a nightmare.
