Great Time by aT122240860

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We enjoyed our time cruising to Alaska. The only way to cruise is to have a balcony room, so that you can enjoy the fresh air and privacy. The Staff, in particular the Cruise Director and the DJ, made the trip very enjoyable. At times, it did seem that the main dining rooms during the peak dining hours between the opening and 8:00 PM were extremely understaffed. It was difficult to obtain a beverage and to be recognized as needing service. The reservation system on board the ship, should be clearly spelled out to all passengers prior to booking on this cruise line. The added cover charges at the restaurants, was excessive in price given the cost of the total cruise package. To have to pay $20.00 per person plus an additional cost to have steak and lobster was expensive. The grautiuity of 18% added onto the bill made the cost for two people to dine in excess of $100.00. The feeling also was, that there was an expectation for additional tipping at these "cover" restaurants. The main courses at the open dining rooms, were strange, and in some cases distasteful. If a person enjoys eating lamb, duck and tough cuts of meats with various countries names associated with them then I am sure that they would be satistifed. The buffet at the pool, was sparse at best. The main selection of cold hambugers or hotdogs, with cheap American cheese and plain tortilla chips is in no way gourmet. There was not a change daily of the offerings to the Customers of the cruise. The last morning of the cruise, the cleaning staff barged into the bathroom, while I was in there and kept knocking. Even after I asked them to leave they hesitated. I felt like we were being "run off" and were not ready to leave as it was only 7:30 am in the morning. I would highly recommend, that anyone that is considering a cruise do thier homework on all available cruise lines and speak with people that have taken trips and would be able to share thier experiences to give a good overall conclusion on which cruise line would be the best selection.

" Great Cruise" by RandyJ4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We had been on two cruises before with Carnival but we thought this cruise was the best. The scenery was great and all of our on shore exursions were great. The room and balcony were great and we also thought the food was great. We did not try the specialty eating because we were so satisfied with the food and service at the main dining area.

NCL Cruise by LaurieC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

It was clean, most of the staff was friendly and polite, the kids crew staff was excellent. The ship was too crowded. Both pools were too small and crowded for swimming. Not enough lounge chairs on non-pool decks. Only two hot tubs in the non-kids area were open at a time and they were often full of kids! There was not enough time in the ports, particularly on the beach! Our cruise was on the NCL SPIRIT to Port Canaveral, Nassau and Stirrup Cay...not Alaska

The best thing on the ship is the children activities. We recommend this ship to families --your children will be entertained by professionals and you'll have a peaceful and excellent vacation.

Highly recommended ! by BenT1

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Excellent! Friendly staffs. Recommendation: 1-How about little chapel for Sunday Masses 2-Vietnamese summer roll is much different from Vietnamse made: rice noodle and rice paper must be served after boiled, not refrigerated. Some of us wished to go down to the kitchen to show the chef the real Vietnamese summer roll or spring roll ; simple way to make the dip sauce

Beautiful Alaska by YvonneS4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was very clean and easy to get around on. The theater was surprisingly spacious and comfortable. We did not make meal reservations in the most popular restaurants because we heard they had already filled up. But the no-reservation Versailles restaurant was just fine for us with gourmet meals.

The ship is very large and at times can feel choatic, however, if you are fortunate enough to have a window or balconey retreating to your cabin is a wonderful place to stay and see the beauty of Alaska.

Alaska is a Wonderland! by IreneB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was clean and lovely. However, this was offset by the additional charges. $45 for 4 games of bingo! $8 for the drink of the day, which is $3-$4 on other cruise lines. The soft drink package was $65! There were 11 restaurants, 5 of which were free, 6 of which had much better food but cost $15-$20 per person to dine there. The least expensive bottle of wine was $34! For the two main dining rooms and buffet, one did not need reservations. For the eight remaning, reservations were required and very difficult to get. Because of the specialty restaurants, and no early and late seating for the main rooms, there was always a wait. The buffet served the same menu daily and tables were put together. There was no effort to make the buffet a nice place to dine. Service was dull compared to other ships. The casino and excursion folks were outstanding.

Great destination but average cruise lin by DianeS25

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Ship was in good condition. Need much better ventilation for the casino. Food was below average. Always served cold. The only hot food on the ship was the hamburger grill by the pool. Staff was pushy and unaware of surroundings and passengers. They were repeatedly walking into and disturbing passengers.

Floating Nightmare by BethB76404172

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Months ago, my family decided to celebrate many momentous occasions by booking an NCL cruise to Alaska. Please note, as a family of five, we booked two cabins and paid adult fair for two children. We counted the days, eagerly awaiting our dream vacation. Never did we anticipate finding ourselves in a situation filled with despair. Landing a dark inner cabin, our travel agent warned, promised peacefulness so deep that we may sleep daylight away. Quite the contrary, our cabin nights greeted us with loud active sounds of rushing water, motors running, clanging, grinding, and banging. Long nights led to tearful mornings and days filled with extreme tension and exhaustion. All promises of excitement, relaxation, and rest faded away as we described our situation to cruise ship staff members, security, and supervisors. For three days, my family felt trapped aboard a floating nightmare and when we tried to seek help, it seemed no one would listen.

The ship was beautiful, large and very clean. Our room was nice and the bed comfortable. The public areas were very clean. We never did use a public restroom that was dirty. Everything was easily accessible. Loved the decor.
