Norwegian Jewel overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 9, 2020

Norwegian Jewel combines exciting destinations, a wide array of traditional cruise activities, and Norwegian’s world-class entertainment for a classic but modern cruise experience. Active cruisers can join a fitness class or visit the full gym at Body Waves Fitness Center, while travelers who prefer pampering can relax at the Mandara Spa and Salon. For passengers who prefer to lounge poolside, the ship’s Sapphire pools are surrounded by ample sun beds and deck chairs, with a hot tub conveniently located nearby. When it comes to onstage entertainment, Jewel is top-notch, with shows such as the dreamlike Le Cirque Bijou and the high-energy Rock You Tonight. The ship also has activities to keep younger cruisers busy, with its Splash Academy kid’s club and Entourage Teens Club.

In Norwegian’s most extensive onboard renovation to date, Norwegian Jewel received upgrades ranging from new chandeliers and updated public spaces to the addition of several new venues, including The Pit Stop, a 1950’s style fresh-air bar, and Bliss Ultra Lounge. New high-end accommodations include luxurious Deluxe Owner’s Suites in Jewel’s exclusive top-of-ship area, The Haven. Norwegian also added several new stage productions, including Velvet, which showcases disco-era music.

Norwegian Jewel offers a variety of globe-spanning cruises, including voyages to Alaska, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Hawaii, and the U.S. Pacific coast. Jewel also features repositioning cruises during changes in home ports. During the 2018-2019 season, Jewel sails from Sydney with 7- to 19-day itineraries that include stops in Melbourne, Tasmania, and Dunedin. In 2019-2020, the ship will sail from Auckland, New Zealand. Beginning in May 2020, Jewel will return to Alaska, traveling the breathtaking Inner Passage and voyaging from Vancouver past Glacier Bay.

Before you sail

Why sail on Norwegian Jewel: Norwegian Jewel is ideal for travelers seeking a well-rounded cruise with off-the-beaten-path destinations, first-rate productions, and a variety of activities. Its kids’ programs and age-spanning amenities also make it a great ship for families and multigenerational groups.

You should know: Although Norwegian Jewel offers a multitude of engaging activities, it doesn’t include the pulse-pounding thrill rides that draw crowds to many newer and larger ships. Passengers who want a cruise vacation with less traditional amenities may want to consider Norwegian’s newer ships like Joy, Bliss, or Encore.

Great itinerary for scenic Alaska. by jawacha59

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel

NCL ships are always well maintained and the crews are always fantastic. The Jewel is a small ship and they have had the misfortune of having to put a lot of venues in a small space, which makes the ship layout a little clumsy. Other than than, a great trip.

A nice and relaxing cruise to just chill. Port visits were at times rush but always worth to just take a walk around.
