Ship tip
On this specific itenarary, manage your time appropriately. Having a port every day is challenging.
Old town was gorgeuos. Wish we would have had more time. The ship swapped dates and we did not get there until 3pm. City starts to shut foen around 7. Very dissapointed.
Another beautiful city. Again, wish we would have had more time. Arrived on a Suday, when most things are closed or close early. Even the hop on hop off bus schedules are not cruise friendly. NCL should have planned better.
Messina is a port city. Sicily is too far to go and come back. We went to another city which was very nice, but takes about 45 minutes in taxi. Make sure to find sopmeone to split the cost with. You only get two hours.
Pisa is easy to get to. Lucca is a short ride from Pisa and small enough to see in one afternoon. Try to book your times on line BEFORE you go if you plan on climbing the leaning tower of pisa.
What a pain in the A$$! First, you have to take a bus just to get to the exit of the port. It's free, but there are no signs or lines. It's a free for all. No one from NCL manages the situation or gives you direction. We found it by asking other passangers. From the exit, you have to another bus which takes you to the train station. It's 5Euros a person. Anpther long line to stand in with no direction or assistance. If you dont take the bus, you and all your luggage have to walk to the train station, which is about a mile and a half. Take the bus!!! At this time, Uber does not work efficienently in Italy as it is not legal. At the train station there are workers who will help purchasing a ticket into Rome, about 45 minutes away.
