Norwegian Getaway 10/3-10/2015 by mahogany353

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

An amazing ship! It was our first cruise and we were just overjoyed by the overall experience. Kept up with a lot of forums to find out what to pack and how to prepare, they all were very helpful. The food was delicious and the parties amazing. The only downside was our room steward. We often felt he was not helpful or considerate towards us, however we had an balcony room, great drinks, and a blast so we did not let him spoil the trip at all!

Getaway cruise by geheff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We have taken over 25 cruises and this rates about 3.5 to 4 stars.

The entertainment was of good quality and we got into all the shows we wanted to see, but didn't like the fact of having to make reservations.

The cruise director was not very friendly, to be in the position he held.

The sports deck staff were super good at their job.

Norwegian getaway October 2015. Disappointed. by dmarch

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Large ship but room was small for a mini suite and balcony was small (32 square ft.) The decor of our room and public spaces was bland especially the casino area which was largely located in the hallways, Indeed must of the ship felt as if you were in a hallway.

Food was poor to average except at the restaurants that cost extra. Main pool was small and music throughout the ship was excessively loud. Service overall was very good and the Prime Meridian bar was nice and relaxing.

Looked forward to the Grammy Experience show but the band took ill and we were left with two lounge singers and an electric piano. There was no advance notification on this matter and we could have scheduled our evening elsewhere had we known. The Legally Blonde show in the main theater was shrill and too long. The Illussionarium show failed to impress.

Overall we were disappointed and would not recommend this ship.

Best time ever... by cgatland

From the very start we were greeted with very friendly and attentive staff, that went from our stateroom steward "Efram" to the various senior staff members. One thing that impressed us was the various staff remembering our first names, little bits of info from our previous conversations that may have took place two or three days ago. Even coming up to us in a crowd to ask how we have been enjoying the cruise. With a passenger list of over 4,000 this is very impressive. The professionalism, courtesy and "bend over backward" customer service was very good to experience as now a days that is lost in many companies. Norwegian and their little things they did as mentioned above, combined with simply a great experience overall on the Getaway, has won two additional people that will not think of another cruise line in the future. We did an Alaska Cruise 5 years prior on Norwegian and had a stellar trip, hard to believe it could have been topped, but this cruise was even more enjoyable and simply a great time.

Norweigian Getaway by ileano

Ship was great!!!

some of the staff were unfriendly and rude.  Would not have provided 18% tip if it wasn't already assed on the bill.   I felt that they already knew they were getting the 18% tip so they didn't gave to put fort effort in any services.

Great Fun New Ship by tlc2276

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is the second time in the last six months we have been on this ship. Had a few issues with bogus reservations for dining and entertainment and a smoke smelling casino. But these are minor the ship is great fun. Tortoula is boring. We will go on this ship again but after 2 cruises to the same ports we will wait until the Getaway goes the the Western Caribbean Happy

Great Cruise on the Getaway by janeeng

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Just got back from a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Getaway.  The ship is truly amazing, with fabulous dining venues, plenty of bars and lounges for any mood, and the public areas are excellently maintained.  We stayed in a SPA Balcony stateroom, and we truly enjoyed using the thermal suites in the SPA regularly...what a treat!  The shows were fun, and the excursions had something for everyone.  What we enjoyed most was the laid back casual style of cruising with Norwegian without compromising on service or value.

Not the greatest by jmad13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Out of the five cruises my husband and I have been on this is definitely one of the lower rated. It started out okay, however due to a hurricane the route had to be changed. While I understand things beyond their control happen, I also feel as thought service should exceed expectations when things like this happen, instead I feel it went the other way. The cruise line made more money that day than they would have had people been able to get off the boat, however this didn't seem to make a difference. I also believe there were way too many "extras" that you had to pay for. A lot of extra fees for certain dining, certain shows, or even the daily surcharge charged to the room. definitely will not be sailing Norwegian again.

Review of Norwegian Getaway by Canadiangal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Even though the Getaway is a newer ship it is very average.  The decor is pleasant but nothing spectacular.  The food was very sub par and when you pay for the specialty dining the food was very disappointing.  The service in bars, pool areas was very poor until you tipped them then they were all smiles and great service.  The entertainment was ok but only a few people were able to get into the venues which you had to prebook.  There never seemed to be crowded even though there were 4,000 cruisers on board.  Disembarking at the end of the cruise was the most disorganized I have ever experienced.  We carried off our luggage and I think at least 60% of the ship decided to do the same thing.  We all were trying to get off the ship at the same time and there was little to no direction from the staff at all.  It was very sad to think you had a week of relaxation only to be very stressed trying to get off the ship.    The one great thing about it was that the dress code was super casual.  If you had children I heard that all the programs were free which is a huge plus for families.  The rooms were very small and areas where you could bang your head if you are taller than 5'9".  The balcony could barely fit two chairs, smallest balcony I have had.  Would I book a cruise on this ship again.......probably not.

It's not that good by zhou29191

Getaway is a nicer newer cruise ship. But the entertainments or shows are not as good as other NCL cruises. There are total two shows, one of them repeated three nights.

The theater is too small, to hold shows for everyone.  You had to book in advance the time you wanted to go.  I am not on vacation to worry about times and dates I booked a show. We booked shows then could not remember when.  I wanted to see the shows, but could not because I couldn't remember when.  On Carnival, you just showed up.  Also when the captain was making an announcement, you could not hear.  The music continued and the people in the gift shops were too busy promoting their merchandise, to listen to the captain or cruise director.  Carnival always has a big sale on their tee shirts, for $10.00.  The Getaway did not.  $20.00 for a tee shirt, is too much.  We had four sea days, which was too much.  I thought the cruise director would have come up with some activities or have a great gift shop sale, other than jewelry to make up for the unexpected sea day.

Whole cruise by funyldy04

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

I thought the ship was too big. And anything you wanted to do you had to pay for. And special dinning was not worth the extra money was not pleased .And we did not go in to Nassau because of the storm and I feel we should have been compensated something like maybe a credit on our account .Because they did not give us anything on the ship .Shopping was terrible only expensive jewelry I have been on the Dawn and liked it a lot better.

Pricing and opportunity was wonderful. From the time we enter our cabin, we were not impressed. Very small cabin, thank God for the window. Food was excellent, also loves the freestyle dinners. Free of being on the clock. We had bad noises  over our head, for 4days. After telling customer service, they did moved us to a nice new room.

My not so great cruise vacation by rinatrinat1971

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The getaway is a beautiful ship with modern decor , but almost everything else is a problem. The closet space is tiny, not even enough for 2 people, never mind if you share a cabin with 3 or 4 people.you need to reserve seats for the 2 complimentary main shows and for dining in the 3 main dining rooms.so, where is the vacation when you have to constantly think what you want to do or when you want to eat?

the magic show and few other shows cost money. If you choose not to pay, you only have two main shows.... So Crying

Birthday celebration by msarno629

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a wonderful time on the Getaway!  The staff, the food, the shows and the overall experience was great.  We had a really lousy experience on the Carnival Conquest this past April and were  little nervous about another cruise but we had so much fun on and off the ship.  Tortola was a port in progress so it's hard to say if it will be a good place to visit, St. Thomas was fun, just walking around the area.  We book our excursion for the Bahamas for my husband's birthday  but Hurricane Joaquin had other plans for us.  Only down side was the pushiness to buy products at the spa.  Didn't like that at all!  Won't go to the spa again.Wink

Great Ship by jimandem

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We have cruised with Norwegian many times, and the Getaway is by far our favorite ship.  We really enjoyed our balcony stateroom which was quite roomy with  lots of storage space.  The shower even seemed a bit larger on this newer ship.

We ate dinner every night in Savor, which is a smaller version of the main dining room - much more intimate where we could get a table for two.  The food was delicious with many items to choose from.  We have always been a fan of their Freestyle Dining, which lets you dine whenever you like with no assigned seating. We had breakfast and lunch most days at their buffet on the 15th floor, where they have a great variety of foods for every taste.

The itinerary was fun even though we missed Nassau because of Hurricane Joaquin.  We'd definitely take this cruise again!
