Great ship, food was awesome,  but the service was not great, not enough activities during the days that you are at see and the activities are not well organized.

Great Ship, terrible service by cmincovsky

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The amenities were great! Lots to do. The food was bland and repetitive. The service was terrible for cruise ship. Slow, rude and always waiting. Pay extra for speciality dining. Also be prepared to wait at the bars for at least 20 minutes. Pre book as much as you can be user things book up quickly

A real Getaway by ririvas418

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My wife, son and I (22 months old) enjoyed a good week away from the chaotic NYC scene. The Getaway ship had plenty activities to offer. It was a family-friendly ship, especially its Sponge Bob theme water park which had my son actively running about until he tired himself out for a few hours. The unlimited beverage program was the best part. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar was my main spot for good mojitos. The array of meals offered was gluttoner's dream come true. The Flamingo Bar & Grill was my favorite, next to Shanghai's Noodle Bar and the buffet. The ship cleanliness, it kind/attentive staff, and other shipgoers enhanced the experience. I would definitely recommend it.

Not the best cruise we have ever been on,and we've been on 24 cruises. by ldcam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Getaway was a beautiful ship, but there was a lot we didn't like about it. In the main dining rooms Taste and Savor the food was so bad we couldn't keep going there. It seems like the food is so bad they want you  to go to the restaurants you have to pay extra for and you shouldn't have to pay for your meals on a cruise.

We don't like having to reserve a seat for all the shows, that is just crazy!! We will not be going on the Getaway or Norwegian again ,they're  other cruise lines that are way better!

Nice Ship, Okay Service by MikeFL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was beautiful and clean with lots of activities including ropes course, rock climbing and water slides.  There are lots of bars and always somewhere to get food.  Food was good and nice variety.

The service lacked a bit.  Bar waiters seemed to have better things to do than to walk around and take guest drink orders.  Maybe because they get automatic gratuities these days, they aren't as motivated.  Our room steward never smiled and made us feel like we were interupting her schedule.

We also didn't like that some of the on-board shows cost extra to go see.

Customer service and Adult swimming pool by rnovak10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Customer service desk is a joke.  Several times a line of 25 or more waiting.   So many children in the pools, little room for adults.  Pit bosses in the Casinos are not happy people.  Pokr rules for tournaments are in need to be updated.

Norwegian does it again! by amgilli

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our 5th cruise on Norwegian and were pleased with our experience.  We purchased Vibe Beach passes for the week and enjoyed the exclusiveness of the area.  Food was great.  We ate at 4 specialty restaurants (Le Bistro, Cagney's, La Cucina and Teppanyaki).  Looking forward to my next cruise on Norwegian Escape.  Love

No overnight stays in port by tanyahammad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Cruise was terrible. This was my first cruise to the Caribbean and I specifically chose an itinerary that included two overnight stays in Caribbean islands. This is not what the cruise itinerary was when I got on the crew ship. It was falsely advertised on your website as having two overnights days which would allow more time on the islands.   If I can't trust what you're advertising on your website and what cruise I'm actually purchasing why would I book with you again. I am very unhappy about this. I wanted to explore the ports and the beaches on my vacation and not just stay on the ship the whole time. I would like to request a refund for my cruise. I only take one vacation a year and I am careful to choose what that is. I'm very upset about this.

Furthermore, when I arrived on board neither my shipboard credit or my Kirk was applied to my account. I spent the first two days on board chasing down through guest services my shipboard credit and my pick up perk promotion. When I'm on vacation I do not like to waste time with paperwork.  Again, if you don't know how to communicate with the cruise line in order to get the proper itineraries and package that was paid for applied to my account why would I book through you ever again rather than directly through the cruise line. Please issue me a refund for the cruise.

Regards,

Tanya hammad

limited space around pools by sandyyates

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

It was difficult to get a space to relax around the pool area.  If you didn't get there early there were a limited number of spaces available if you could find one.  I would probably opt to pay the difference to get into the Haven area just to have a place to relax without so much frustration.  I really enjoyed the nice eating facilities but it is unfortunate that the cost is so high. It also would be nice if the movies that were shown were at more favorable and comfortable locations.

Don't take kids by chrissy6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Don't take kids it's not super kid friendly. Casino was a good size.  I don't think I would go with norwegian again. I have done carnival and I think we will try royal Caribbean next. The ports were all amazing with what we did and we booked stuff on our own and saved money and had the best time.

NCL Getaway October 17, 2015 by cindyv35

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My husband and I had mixed feelings about this cruise.  We booked a mini suite that was beautiful but no bath robes were provided.  On the pool deck you could exchange towels but could not get additional towels without a lengthy discourse about your towels are provided in your stateroom.  We wanted 2 additional towels, you would think we were asking for their first born.  There were children of all ages everywhere, you couldn't escape them.  For the most part the food and service in the specialty restaurants was excellent, however the food and service in the complimentary restaurants was mediocre.  The buffet was very good, plenty of food and a good selection and enough stations so there was rarely a wait.

Great Cruise by fp33614

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our families first time cruising with Norwegian. We have always done Disney cruises. For the price, I was very pleased. My children had a great time on the ship Getaway. Lots of fun this to do, ropes course, rock wall, water slides, & kids club. The pools were a little small, but still had a blast. The food was good and plenty of entertainment. Liked that there was no assigned time to eat and lots of variety (some of the specialty dinners were a little expensive). We will be cruising with Norwegian again!!

lots of entertainment for young and old. by aismarar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

There are a few things I did not like about this cruise. The food wasn't great. In the complimentary dining rooms the food was mediocre at best. What is being done is that the best food is saved for the specialty restaurants where you have to pay to eat. I noticed there was never a lobster night, we got shrimp one night.

The good steaks are also gone. One night there was a choice for a New York strip steak. Well, what we got was 3 pieces of thin sliced steak. Not impressed.

The other thing I really did not like is the fact that now they are charging for room service any time day or night. It's $7.95 per order. I love room service but not if I have to pay extra.  The "All-Inclusive" on cruises isn't going as far as it used to. They want your money at every turn. If you want to eat better, you have to pay. If you want room service, pay. The entertainment was good. The shows were really good, not the usual song and dance from other cruises. There's lots to do with kids. 5 slides, ropes course, rock climbing, mini golf, bungee jumping. There's also a small water park with Sponge Bob characters. It has lots of water shooting from everywhere. The ports were great except for Nassau. The people there are so pushy and disrespectful. The cruise was good but I was expecting something better.

Wonderful Ship, Varied Ports by Lmillar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our 5th cruise with NCL over the last 10 years.  The Getaway is an awesome ship.  Plenty of varied activities for all ages.  Wide variety of restaurant choices.  We prefer the speciality restaurants so we do end up paying extra.  My only complaint is that the fitness center is too small for a ship of this size.  It can be hard to find empty machines on sea days and the weight area is impossible to get into and they lack any area for stretching, ab work, etc.  We liked the variety of ports.  We did not book any port excursions through NCL but did them on our own. Our room Stewart was very good and we were surprised at the size of our inside cabin.  It was larger than we expected.  Be prepared to spend extra for many things.  I think it would be a nice gesture to allow passengers to check-in and print boarding passes for free but you have to pay an activation fee and by the minute.  Be prepared for another $10 NCL charge........

Great Getaway by taxguy4u2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Our cruise was a wonderfully relaxing time.  The staff was friendly and helpful.  The variety of food was amazing.  I, personally, like the Free Style cruising.  We are pretty "low-key", "low maintenance" people so the size of the ship and the atmosphere of the ship was overwhelming but a nice experience.  The adult pool was way too small for the size of this ship.  The ship was very family/children friendly. The next cruise we gone on would probably be on a smaller ship as 4700 people and a crew of 1600 was just too much for us!  We did three shore excursions.  The first one we did was a kayaking, hike and snorkel excursion.  The guides were great but we snorkeled over a "dead" reef so there was not much to see.  The second was on the island of Tortola.  We were signed up for an alternate snorkel excursion but that was cancelled due to weather.  The alternate they gave us was wonderful.  This was over a "live" reef and we snorkeled for about an hour and then went to swim and snorkel on an island.  The crew was helpful and fun.  The third snorkel excursion was on Nassau.  The catamaran was 45 minutes late in picking us up!  The snorkel experience itself was good if you were not afraid of deep water and had some snorkel experience as there was no instructions given.  The equipment was good and they were concerned about how the equipment fit so that was nice.  But you were in about 20-30 feet of water and there were waves so you could not panic.  Overall, the cruise was wonderful although I would probably pick a cruise that was shorter so we would not have that initial two day trip to get to our destination.

First Cruise we've been on, and it was amazing by virtual21

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

So we decided to go on a family vacation with all of my sisters and their spouses. My wife and I had never been on a cruise so we were not sure what to expect. With the guidance from my brother-in-law, he worked with our travel agent to get us all together on the same floor, with a balcony view. Seeing as this has been my first cruise, I don't know if I can now go without having a balcony view. The shows were amazing. The talent that they have on board to keep you entertained did an excellent job. This may be a surprise, but the casino did take some of my money, so I wasn't one of the few fortunate ones that could pay for their cruise on their winnings, but it was still a ton of fun.

Tortola is a newer port, so don't be surprised to not find very much shopping. The family did the Virgin Gorda and Baths, and that was an huge hit. Just be prepared to do a lot of walking on and around large boulders.

The only negative that we had on this cruise was that we never met our room statesmen, and the first couple of days, it took a while to get our room made up. Norwegian provides special towels to use on your excursions and at the pool, but if you don't return the number of towels that were given to your room, you will be charged a $25 fee for each towel. We placed one of our towels to be replaced in our room, but it took 24 hours to get a new one.

Norwegian Getaway Oct 2015 by mzfayavon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise is very good.  Service good with nice rooms. Complaint if any was the food in each restuarant had basically same foods, just new names.  For a ship of this size, there should be more pools.  This is a free style type for meals, but I thing I prefer the planned meals because the food was better in other cruises.

Shows at the Getaway were very good.  Arrival and departure was very organized.Happy
