en nuestra opinion, me gustó mas Royal Caribbean. el servicio de Norwegian fue pobre, la comida regular y no eran muy  amigables. es un barco lujoso y nada mas. creo que fue la unica vez por esta linea de crucero, no creo que la repita.

Getaway Overall Good by cutie76

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I decided to try a larger ship so we could check it off our bucket list.  After our experience, we both agree, for us, that a smaller ship is more our cup of tea.  The ship is beautiful with neutral decor- a vast difference from our NCL ships. Our balcony room was about the same size as other balcony rooms on NCL, but the balcony itself was tiny. Our room steward never took the time to learn our names and although appeared nice, was not personable at all- this was a change for us with our NCL ships where the steward knew you within 24hrs of starting your cruise!

For a ship that accommodates close to 4000 passengers, the pool area for adults was too small.  We had a blast on the water slides, but no swimming for us.  Spice H2O, an adult only area, was nice, but adding a pool would have been smart.  The bars and lounges struggled with not enough staff to accommodate guests, but the staff in the Sunset Bar and SugarCane Mojito Bar were top rate!  Another observations was they were limited in the specialty drinks they could make- another difference between large and smaller ships.

We did not enjoy the food at all in the Main restaurants.  We tried the Tropicana Room and Savor.  Both messed up our orders and the selections on the menus were not catering to the every day palette.  Ironically, the food in the buffet was very good and we typically do not do the buffet for dinners.  O'Sheehan's was great!  If you like chicken wings, try their Texas BBQ ones- soooo good!  The service was wonderful too.

Comedians on the ship were great- word to the wise- reserve your spot for anything and everything you want to go to- we found events sold out quickly.  The art team from Park West was fantastic except for their Auctioneer who was rude to his staff publicly and seemed very unhappy all the time- good news is that he will be transferring to another ship very soon so this will become a mute point!

As far as the ports go:

Jamaica was VERY pushy and aggressive, which put a damper on the fun...be sure to have jerk chicken and a hummingbird drink!

Grand Cayman had the nicest most polite people, but was very expensive with no opportunity to bargain

Cozumel was a mixture of the 2- pushy but polite and prices were so so but ability to bargain.

Great Stirrup Cay was awesome!  We found a lagoon on the other side of the island where barely anyone was!  Beautiful day, but be sure to keep applying sunscreen!!  Sun is very strong!

Overall we had a great time.  We missed the personal touches of the smaller ships, but glad we tried a large one.  Helped us to prioritize what we like and do not like! Happy Sailing!Happy

Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my third cruise. We enjoyed every second from leaving to returning. Crew was amazing... food was delicious... cabin was great!  Planning our next one now . Jamaica was our favorite port on this one but we thoroughly enjoyed them all. The private island is also a favorite.

Great Cruise by keistratt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall the cruise was excellent. The ship was always clean, the staff were always friendly and very polite. The food overall was very good and drinks were plentiful and always good.

We tried the specialty restaurants loved the Brazilian and Japanese, the steakhouse and Italian were OK but nothing to shout about. The least favorite was the French Le Bistro as it lacked atmosphere and the food was not that good, and service was so so. Freestyle restaurants were good also.

Our cruise was made by Lily in the Headliner bar and Dona in the Irish Bar. Both women were super friendly and remembered us from our last sailing on the Getaway 9 months ago.HappyHappy

Enjoyable Family Trip by CJsMom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Freestyle food and choices were great!  Specialty "you pay for" dining restaurants for the most part weren't overpriced. Housekeeping was alright. Excursions were OK-some were just too long to enjoy any kind of wandering or exploring on your own time. More choices thru NCL's Excursions would have been nice too. Could use more on board shopping stores and merchandise choices. (FYI-Liquor purchases both on board and off are kept until the last night of your cruise.)

All and All a Good Ship by jhagen23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Nothing is perfect. So, let me start with the good stuff:

1. Amazing staff in the free dining room. The staff is without question the best of any Cruise Line. We have sailed on all of them....Just the best.

2. Housekeeping is a amazing.

3. Comics are truly at the top of their Game.

4. Ship was amazing

The bad:

Never book 9790....OMG...you will never sleep....right above the Jazz Club...that parties through the night....took us more time than it should have to get moved....like this is not an issue on every one of this ships cruises? Ya think they would close this room off? and the ship that books 3,900....only 2,700 were on board...thank goodness for that....

My second cruise with NCL so I can live with the bad since we got out of the noise tunnel..

First timer excellent first impression by naterai63

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our first time cruise with Norwegian was best first impression! We dined, slept, participated in activities, went on excursions in an open plan way- no one to call us for dinner, lunch or breakfast- no one to tell us to please keep it quiet because everyone is sleeping- on Norwegian half the ship is always up and about- but from our stateroom we didn't hear a thing!

Our Steward was the absolute best vacation hero- well prepared and accommodating he made sure not one detail was missing. And when we needed extra things he was right there to make sure we got it.

Never had wanted to go on a cruise- but Norwegian convinced me that it was some thing I should do more often!

Thanks - you guys made it happen!

Not Again by Verydisapointed

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Never again customer service was poor! From the state room to just about all of the bartenders. It started with check in boarding the agent was short and acted like I was doing her a favor by being there. Customer service  is what makes your cruise memorable so you want to come back for another cruise on Norwegian but that didn't happen.

Our Cruise to the Western Caribbean by markw268

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our cruise on NCL Getaway was initially an adjustment to the larger ship size. However, after the initial experience we had a great time. We found the Dining Plan was a great experience especially Gagney's Steakhouse. All of the restaurants had great tasting food choices with no complaints. We will definitely go back on this ship.

Horrible Experience by amandakirk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Staff was not friendly.  We purchased the $679 beverage package and were treated with disrespect every time we ordered a drink.  We got huffs and puffs.  I am a 43 year old who drinks occasionally and was treated like an alcoholic every time I asked for another frozen drink.  We paid a 18% gratuity on the drink package which was when we purchased it so the only thing I can think of is that the staff is not getting the tips that they normally would per drink.  I really am not sure but it was a terrible experience.

Dinners were cold, it took more than 2 hours every night to eat in a dinning room.  We tried different places and all were the same.  They were not friendly and we never had exceptional service the entire 7 days.  I have cruised on 10 other cruises including carnival. Disney, and Holland America, and this by far was the worst cruise line I have ever been on.  I will NEVER cruise Norwegian ever again.

We complained about the service and all I got was "Well there are  a lot of Nationalities and cultures on the boat.  That must be what it is."  Um NO!!!!  Every cruise line is multicultural and I have always had superior service.

Too many problems by kmeng

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Problems:

1. Freestyle dining meant waiting until almost 9 p.m. to get a table large enough for our group of 10.

2. Electric circuits blew when trying to use razor, hair dryer in at least two cabins.

3. Room telephone had date and time, but lettering was tiny and pale.  As a result, those with inside cabins had to turn on the light to find out the time.  This was particularly difficult if someone else was sleeping.

4. Shore cruises were disorganized.  We were left at one point with no information as to where to meet again.  Ended up going with another tour group doing a different tour in order to get back to ship.

5. No snacks available after 11:30 p.m. except for one full-service restaurant near casino.

6. Very few shaded outside areas for those not wanting a tan.

7. Limited storage space--not one drawer--only limited shelf space.  Two suitcases had to sit in middle of floor because there was no space for storing empty suitcases.

8. Gift shops had few practical items--mostly expensive jewelry.

9. At the beginning of the cruise, wo couples in our group had misplaced luggage which didn't arrive in the rooms until after 9 p.m.

10. Hallways were too narrow making it difficult to pass another group when going to rooms.  Also, difficult to get through garden cafe carrying food to table without getting bumped.  Often had to stand to side waiting for an opening to walk to table—if a table was available.

11. Our 15-year-old grandson, who is captain of a select soccer team and on his HS track team, was told to leave the exercise area because of his age.

12. Our granddaughter, who was three weeks short of  her 18th birthday, was kicked out of the 18 and above area while she was with her parents and 18-year-old boyfriend.

18.  The running track was located in a very congested part of the ship making it impossible to use the track after 8 a.m.

Cruise line review by cacooper1950

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I would have given it a 5 star review, but on April 6, I tripped over the high threshold in my stateroom bathroom, and took the skin off of my right knee, and fractured a small bone in the knee.  I spent the day of the Cayman Island excursion in bed, in pain.  This excursion was one of the main reasons for taking the cruise, and I missed it.  I also spent a couple of hours in your infirmary being checked out and xrayed.  This cruise cost me too much money to get hurt when I am suppose to be having fun.  It is a great cruise, but they need to do something about those bathroom thresholds, especially for senior citizens.

First time cruisers by akdurrant

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first cruise. It was a really good time for us. Being first timers I would have appreciated more help and direction from the staff. I guess because it is freestyle they pretty much leave you alone and don't approach you or say much. Educate yourself and then trial and error. The staff are friendly and helpful when asked directly. Embarkation is a bit overwhelming, but relax and it's over soon, then it's clear sailing and fun.

We got a balcony room and it was perfect! We could watch as we sailed in and out of ports. We watched other ships passing by. Sunrise and sunset from your balcony is so special.

We purchased the soda package and we're glad we did. We didn't get a dining package, but there are so many complimentary choices it was never missed. We saw legally blonde and burn the floor, both are excellent. The Illusionarium show is a must see! Pay the little bit extra and get the good seats. It is worth it, and arrive early for the best seating. The food was really good during the show.

We booked our excursion to Tulum through the boat and it's a good thing we did. One of the buses broke down and made us late getting back, but the boat had to wait for us, otherwise we would have been left.

We loved cruising and will definitely go again!

Norwegian cruise is the best by shakranab

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I had a fantastic trip until I realized I was chaged erroneously and fraudulently by in the sum of 171.99 when I returned to the states and called the customer service agent that took the call stated this charge was for insurance and a 24.99 booking fee . First let me say this was my 7th cruise , I never purchase insurance 2nd of all for her to tell me , " She (agent I originally booked with )told you about it when you booked the cruise ," I informed her,  you were not on the call insurance never came up and then informed her I would be contacting my bank to report this as fraud , because that is what it is. .

Amazing 7 day cruise on the Getaway once again by bfoeldi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is our 3RD time on this ship and ready to go for #4. You just can't beat consistency, the food was great once again from the buffet to the specialty restaurants like teppanyaki and cagney's also the burn the floor dancers at tropicana room is a must for dinner one night. Kids club is great with all the favorite games like dodge ball ,soccer and basketball. The orginization at each port was good also, just a hint though getting off the boat on time for your excursion is critical if you are last in your party you'll have a different experience because of the amount of people they bus to each place. The only thing I wish Norwegian    would do is get Jersey Joel the old cruise director back he is by far a person that can make a cruise a memorable one. We will be back on this ship within a  few months with a new itinerary and can't wait.Happy
