Review summary

Problems:

1. Freestyle dining meant waiting until almost 9 p.m. to get a table large enough for our group of 10.

2. Electric circuits blew when trying to use razor, hair dryer in at least two cabins.

3. Room telephone had date and time, but lettering was tiny and pale.  As a result, those with inside cabins had to turn on the light to find out the time.  This was particularly difficult if someone else was sleeping.

4. Shore cruises were disorganized.  We were left at one point with no information as to where to meet again.  Ended up going with another tour group doing a different tour in order to get back to ship.

5. No snacks available after 11:30 p.m. except for one full-service restaurant near casino.

6. Very few shaded outside areas for those not wanting a tan.

7. Limited storage space--not one drawer--only limited shelf space.  Two suitcases had to sit in middle of floor because there was no space for storing empty suitcases.

8. Gift shops had few practical items--mostly expensive jewelry.

9. At the beginning of the cruise, wo couples in our group had misplaced luggage which didn't arrive in the rooms until after 9 p.m.

10. Hallways were too narrow making it difficult to pass another group when going to rooms.  Also, difficult to get through garden cafe carrying food to table without getting bumped.  Often had to stand to side waiting for an opening to walk to table—if a table was available.

11. Our 15-year-old grandson, who is captain of a select soccer team and on his HS track team, was told to leave the exercise area because of his age.

12. Our granddaughter, who was three weeks short of  her 18th birthday, was kicked out of the 18 and above area while she was with her parents and 18-year-old boyfriend.

18.  The running track was located in a very congested part of the ship making it impossible to use the track after 8 a.m.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There was a waiting line for all activites requiring equipment such as shuffleboard, table tennis, etc. Others required paying extra.

Entertainment

5 out of 5

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Too many age-restricted activities not taking account of the maturity and behavior of the child.

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The ship was clean, but the design of the ship was horrible--narrow hallways to cabins and in cafeteria area, no shaded areas to sit and enjoy the view, inadequate space for activities such as table tennis, shuffleboard,. Also, every hot tub was always full. i

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
The room had very little space compared to other cruises we've taken. There was not one drawer, and there was no place to store empty suitcases during the cruise except by the bed causing even more congestion.

Ship tip

If you are with a large group, your best bet is to skip the restaurants such as Taste and Savor. They have few tables for large groups, and you will have to wait at least an hour. Instead, go to the Garden Cafe.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

It is a beautiful area. It was a fun place for those who enjoy beaches, photography, or just relaxing.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

We did not climb the falls, but climbed the walkways near the falls. This gave us an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the falls and to take pictures of others in our group as they climbed the falls.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Although we were left behind on this tour, we ended up with another group going to Sting Ray City. Unfortunately we did not have swim suits. Nevertheless, it was unbelievable to see so many sting rays swimming between the people who were in the water.

Cozumel, Mexico Did not visit port

Talum is a beautiful and interesting area. An added bonus is the beautiful view of the beaches below. Some had swimsuits, but it is a huge climb up and down the cliff to get to the beach.

After reading this post I'm really glad I don't have to travel with this person which is probably what the other 9 people with him or her on this cruise will never do again.......

Great point!

@curtis, yes, it reminds of entitled post from the DCL cruisers with a gaggle of kids. They want their snowflakes to be the exception to every age rule, but at the same time they definitely want those OTHER people's kids kept in line.

curtisneiswander    8 years ago

I think what these yahoos are missing is they are teaching the kids to bend the rules because somebody is special on a soccer team and somebody is almost 18. We have a 15-year-old and almost 18-year-old and would never assume that rules would be bent for our football player and almost 18 kids... Oh yes, straight A's, AP/Honors kids. Where is the good parenting here? Go somewhere else.

Sounds like someone should have just stayed at home and worked FFS!!! Seriously you nit picked that whole ship. Glad you weren't in our party of 10 because we couldn't find a fault the whole time we were on he ship. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

If you had such a lousy time why did you give two stars. Maybe it wasn't as bad as you made it out to be

You should have planned better for a group of 10 for dining. You could have eaten at the specialty restaurants and made reservations prior to sailing. The suitcase storage space is under the bed. You could have brought an alarm clock for telling time. The buffet is always open, with sandwiches and snacks late night.

perditax    8 years ago

Suitcases go under the bed. There are drawers built into the sofas. The age rules are posted. You can make dining reservations with the maitre d. It sounds like you were unprepared, it's always a good idea to do research. Sorry you had a bad trip.

Wow. Let's break all of the rules for your special grandkids. What does being on an "elite " soccer team have to do with age restrictions.

I was able to increase the phone light and them decreased it because it was too bright at night.

I was on the Getaway May 2015 and had an awesome time....the complete opposite of everything listed here!

Next time cruise on s smaller ship that has less passengers. You won't have the overcrowded conditions and the cabins will be a bit larger.

carlosandlaura    8 years ago

Cruising is definitely not for you. Stay at a resort next time. Punta Cana maybe. Maybe you'll get what you want there. It's a cruise. Also, there are big cabins. Have you tried a suite, or the Haven? I'm sure there's plenty of space there. In clubs here in miami, it's not 17 and 364 days. It's 18 or over. Or 21.

Sounds like cruising just isn't for you. If they didn't have and enforce rules on the ship, it would be chaos. The rules in the adult area are 18+, not 17 years and 11 months. If they bend the rules for you, why shouldn't they for someone just 17, or then just 16, and so on. There were plenty of areas in the ship for her to enjoy.
