We missed the usual last night lobster meals. We prefer soap to the provided liquid cleaners. The Internet, for users, becomes rather expensive. Meals in some of the gourmet restaurants were prohibitively high priced for many of us. There was plenty of variety in the buffet restaurants, freestyle.
Specialty restaurant prices are going up every cruise pulse adding a fee for meals in the complementary restaurants. This looks like the complementary restaurants are going away and what you will be left with is the buffet line
if you want to go from deck four to deck twelve (or vs/vs), take the elevator. if you want to go from the front of the ship to the back (or vs/vs) take deck seven "outdoors"
we ate most meals at the garden cafe
The brazilian restaurant, Moderno, is the best of the higher end places. We went there twice. The Teppanyaki place was also fun to watch and good food. We did not really like the Italian place or Cagney's for dinner.
The Gem is in great need of repair and upgrading. Upholstery is worn, chairs in the theater are broken. The pool and hot tub on pool deck are in need of painting.
It was hard to find a seat in the dining rooms sometimes, but the staff tried to help you find a place, even carrying your plate for you. It was also hard to find lounge chairs by the pool as people just put towels on it and you didn't know if it was saved or if towels were left there.
We stuck with eating in the dining rooms so we wouldn't overeat. He didn't gain weight--of course she gained 5 lbs. But the food and desserts were worth it. Part of our enjoyment is being served and the staff everywhere is exceptional.
Captain great, nice of ship to give a stipend back to guests for decreased fuel charges. Have always found NCL very considerate in the past i.e. we were in Alaska on 9/11 and the captain opened all phones for people to call home. This cruise itself was smooth sailing.
