Norwegian Breakaway Review by Wehrspann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Overall the cruise was a nice one; as this being my first I don't have a lot to compare it to. The Breakaway appeared to be nicely put together (layed out) with a lot of entertainment options. The main area of feedback revolves around all of the "extras" you must pay for if you want the best experience out of your cruise from some entertainment to eating choices. The main dining buffet was good and the food served at the three free style sit down eating establishments was good. However the three free style sit down dining options (Taste, Savor and the Manhattan Room) had the same menus and only a few small selections varied from day to day. I did like the outdoor entertainment options such as the water slides, obstacle course and mini golf as well as the pools/hot tubs. I felt they did a good job of having plenty of entertainment provided to keep you busy. Overall I would recommend this ship but be away of the extras you will have to pay for to make it an excellent experience.

Smoke in the stateroom was unbearable by sob

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We paid to have a balcony on our stateroom. The first night there, we left the door open while we slept to have the fresh air and hear the ocean...in the middle of the night, we woke up and thought our room was on fire as we could smell smoke. We determined that the smoke was coming from the next stateroom passengers who were smoking cigarettes on the balcony. We had to close the balcony door and went to guest services in the morning to address the situation. They told us that cigarette smoking was allowed and we just had to keep our door closed if we didn't want any coming in our room. They said they would talk to the passengers but they couldn't tell them to stop as it is allowed. The next night we had marijuana smoke coming in our room from the stateroom two doors down and throughout the entire week, we continued to have cigarette smoke in our room whenever we opened the door. So basically, we paid for an upgraded room with a balcony and we couldn't utilize the balcony the entire week and couldn't even have the door open as the smell of smoke bothered both of us. it really negatively affected our trip and certainly calls into question if I'd ever go on Norwegian again...i have cruised with Royal Caribbean 5-6 times previously and this was the first attempt to try someone else and i cannot see me using Norwegian again as the luck of the draw could mean that we have smoke in our rooms again on the next cruise.

Breakaway maiden cruse by June

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We had such a nice time we are booked to go again in Oct. 2013. The crew was friendly and skilled. Food was good. With a lot of people on board, there was never a line at any of the places we ate. This was just an A+ cruse all the way.

A perfect Cruise by marb321

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We had the best time ever. We sailed on the first cruise of the Norwegian The ship was beautiful. There were so many things to do, I think it would take many more cruises to do them all. We saw a Broadway show on board, had dinner and watched Cirque Du Soleil perform. The staff was wonderful. Our steward was so fabulous. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything and not to disturb us if we were in a cabin. The waterpark was so fun. It was better than some of the actual waterparks I have been to. The rope course was so much fun. I loved being able to zip-line, and "walking the plank" of the side of the ship, 18 decks above the ocean was such a rush. Bermuda even built a new dock to fit the ship. There were welcome Norwegian Breakaway all over. If you go, besides the water and beach, take the Segway tour. It was so much fun. My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary and my 50th birthday, so please don't think you have to be young to enjoy the !

Breakaway to Bermuda by Cosy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

With this being our 10th cruise and our 40th wedding anniversary we were excited to experience the brand new NCL Breakaway. First the positive: Entertainment was very good, make sure you do the Cirque show, definitely worth it, but don't pay the extra money for "premium seating". The specialty restaurants we tried were all amazing. The ease of getting around the ship was a plus as they had touch screen displays to guide you everywhere. Last night there were fireworks on the top deck! Great way to end the trip. Having cruised on the Epic last year we found ourselves comparing the two and my wife liked the Breakaway a little more I prefered the Epic, especially the stateroom. We had a mini-suite with a balcony, and the balcony is definitely smaller on Breakaway. Only drawback was the Breakaway had no first night specials, like other ships and the price at the spa was way too high.

The Beautiful Norwegian Breakaway by thecruisedoctor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Transatlantic

The ship was what I expected. Not much different than the Norwegian Epic. I love cruising so I always enjoy the cruising aspect. I think the ship is catering to a much younger crowd. The show "Rock of Ages" is definitely geared to a young audience and not recommended for children. Many of the older audience walked out during the performance. You can "walk the plank" over the ocean (I know there won't be older guest who will attempt this) and the ship touts the largest Aqua Park at sea. The ship has excellent dining options, both complimentary and cover charge. I refused to eat at Ocean Blue on the transatlantic cruise because doing seven days at sea, how fresh could the seafood really be? It's a $35.00 cover charge for this restaurant. All the restaurants on Deck 8 have both indoor and outdoor seating (The Waterfront) which will probably be very nice on the trips to Bermuda. Hopefully adjustments will be made to gain access to the Thermal Spa Suites. The ship overbooked and sold additional passes which resulted in a very overcrowded Spa experience. Certainly not the relaxing experience it was supposed to be. I had a Spa balcony cabin which was very nice. They made the cabins larger with a separate bathroom, however, the balconies are very, very small. If you're not careful you'll fall over. Overall it was a good transatlantic cruise and I'll do the Bermuda itinerary this fall just to have that experience. But the ship really didn't "wow" me. I'm going back to the Epic.

Terrible trip by pastorkent53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Charges for every little thing that used to be included, just too many people to be enjoyable. Food quality is good but not like it used to be. Cutting staff affects the overall cruise experience. This was our 12 Norwegian cruise and probably our last….

NCL needs reviewing of services by cruiseboomer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

NCL has improved its food quality and the entertainment is always excellent. There were many things that were not the quality I would expect on any ship. The tops of the sheets were frayed the whole week (unacceptable), had to request a refund from a missed port (unacceptable), you have to inquire about a loyalty party and receive your loyalty pin ONLY ON THE FIRST DAY BY 9 PM (always long lines first day), the duty free shop gave a smaller discount than expected for loyalty level, room steward should introduce his/her self on the first day and ask if there is anything they can do for you (didn't happen).

Great cruise. Very expensive internet prices. Free at sea means you pay before sailing. We paid a lot for a drink package when we mostly drink water

Great by hollygeno

It was a great family cruise, just wish the coffee package was included and the upgrades to the liquor package weren’t so pricey. When only one person drinks coffee and wants premium liquor it to pricey.

This cruise was our first since 2020. There were 12 in our group and we made many memories together. Our goal was to enjoy life, laugh a lot and expect hiccups along the way. Love cruising....love Norwegian...looking forward to our next vacation!
