Too Many Passengers for the Ship to Accommodate and Rude Crew by carmensmom06

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The only reason I am giving this cruise 2 stars is because the ship itself is beautiful. However, there are way too many passengers on this boat and it can't accommodate them all. All of the shows were booked within the first day of the cruise. My husband and I didn't get to sit at a bar once because all of the stools were always taken. The quarter machines in the casino were always full, except very late at night. My husband and I both got what we believe was food poisoning at Taste, and we were sick for about 24 hours. Most importantly, many of the crew members were rude! Finally, there were over $800 in preauthorized charges on my debit card, then NCL took out the full amount of onboard expenses (in addition to the $800 that was already pending), so we had no $ and our account was in the negative from Sunday morning when we got off the ship until Tuesday morning when the bank opened (Monday was a holiday). Also, we were nickeled and dimed to death on this cruise. Overall, it wasn't a good experience.

A week of pure indulgence and pampering by Cruiser91

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

My favorite part of the cruise was the great entertainment. The shows exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent. Never had trouble being seated even though it is freestyle dining. I wish they had a variety of complimentary dinning. Several of the restraunts now require you to pay extra to eat there. Even at the complimentary dinning they had selections which required an up charge. All that being said, the experience was excellent. The rooms were bigger than I expected and the balcony was a real plus. I would recommend this cruise to others wanting to see Burmuda.

My first cruise by tikapop1627

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Upon arrival the ship was beautiful and breathtaking, I was in awe. We had a balcony room with a wonderful room steward. Our room was always clean and the balcony was spacious and beautiful. The on board shows were great as well. That being said, I have some drawbacks: There should be a room set up specifically for children and families (aside from the splash academy, while it was great, not every child wanted to leave their parents) that continuously runs movies and has activities including coloring, games etc. The game room on board was nice but very limited game wise and did not cater to smaller children. The theatre was beautiful but was used for several events, I wish that there were more movies played throughout the day so while it was cold and raining out we had a movie to watch (aside from staying in our room and watching tv there). The men waiters were excellent, however, most of the women waitresses that waited on us were very short and seemed to be annoyed when asked for anything. Other than that the ship was beautiful, I thin if we had better overall weather we would have had a better time as we stayed indoors often.

Wonderful Time, Beautiful Destination, Amazing Boat by novamatt99

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Travelled on the Breakaway to Bermuda, and could not be happier about our trip and experience.  The boat was excellent.  Multiple delicious dining options, comfortable cabins, attentive staff and great entertainment. There is plenty of activities on the boat, sometinhg for everyone regardless of age.  Bermuda was gorgeous.  Plenty of beautiful beaches as well as interesting sights to visit throughout the island.

Go prepared by seawind322

Anything you have pre-orded bring copies of your documentation , I spent way too much time at guest services, 3 trips down and use of their computers to locate the transactions off my credit card before they agreed  ( not admitting) that I was correct.  The office in Miami needs to get their act together. I had pre ordered these items 5 months prior to the cruise.

PROMISES NOT KEPT by mcq1956

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The vast part of the trip was very enjoyable. The service outstanding. Food too available Clean, comfortable. And the staff went out of their way to be friendly and accomodating. The only drawback for us was the $50 on board credit we thought we were getting, but did not. We questioned guests services a couple of times, they sent a message to BJ's travel services, and I personally left a message which was never answered. Am waiting now to see if I receive the $100 BJ's credit comes. Idealistically, I would like to see the on board credit added to the BJ's voucher/credit I am supposed to get.

Breakaway by Cruiser980

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Solo cabin and lounge were great for one person

Had to make reservations for food & shows

Hallways very, very narrow

Not enough public sitting room

Nothing great to speak of- food, décor, shows

Have travelled NCL many times- always had a wonderful experience

The ship was too massive for me personally

The stateroom is the best part. It is large and comfortable. The cuisine of each complimentary restaurant is delicious. I already introduced the Breakaway to my friends.

A cruise with good friends by Cruiser651

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The food was wonderful and good portions. The shows were real good, and the seats in the theater were awful. overall the Breakaway was a great ship, and we would go on that ship again. I commented on the seat in the theater prior to this survey. Everything was super with our cruise agent.

Very nice ship. Bermuda was beautiful. Bartenders were great.  Didn't like the fact that the adult pool was now the family pool.  That was a big disappointment!! The waiters could smile and be a little more courteous. i felt like i was putting them out by being there.

Breakaway is Too Big For Me by JANYC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Aside from the great food & wonderful staff I totally disliked this cruise.  While the ship is huge, the cabin & balcony were the smallest I have ever seen & been in on any of my past 17 cruises. The cabin was so poorly laid out that with twin beds we had 10 inches of space to get to the closet.

Th weather happened to be bad except for one full day & other than the tiny cabin, this ship has very few places where on can sit indoors & read (the library is also mini & un-welcoming).  Other than outdoor activities, shopping seminars or bingo there are very limited indoor activities planned.  This is a party ship & very noisy, as most of the available seating areas are located by noisy bars.

The entertainment was fairly bad, except for the Jazz group.  One production show was OK & the other awful.  No comedians, etc. on this cruise.

The casino is so smoky (even in the small non-smoking section) it was hard to stay there longer than 10 minutes.  I could go on, but the bottom line was - I really did not enjoy this cruise & was truly happy to get off the ship!

Big Apple Convenience by bobbiebeach

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The convenience of leaving from NYC and not having the hassle of flying to another city was terrific.  So many times the stress of flying just starts off the vacation on the wrong foot. This could not have been more pleasant.  I would love to see more trip options by NCL using the Manhattan piers; Brooklyn and Bayonne, NJ can both be traffic nightmares.

Other than transportation, the ship, crew and seas were all terrific. A bit chilly and rainy but this was one of the smoothest voyages I have been on.

The ship is too big! by jimm8252

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The Breakaway is just too big with too many people.  Also, going out of NY gives it a full flavor of NY in it's passengers also.  Throw in a all you can drink promotion and you have a disaster.  A bunch of drunks on a classy ship doesn't work.  The first night we had a drunk lady in La Cucina and she caused a major scene, which the manager could not fix, and refused to ask her to leave.  Yelling, banging glassware and eventually the wine stand, cursing, she was a total A..hole.  The manager came over and apologized to basically everyone, but no free anything offered, just an apology.  Ruined a decent evening.

at 10:30PM at night.  I guess no one wants to dance before bedtime.  The parties all started after 10:30PM.

The disembarkation was a joke.  No announcements as to where to gather, or when, was not the way to run this operation.  We got downstairs, found ourselves in a big crowd, that finally started to move, and ended up finally leaving the ship, only to get downstairs on the dock to find out that the luggage was not yet available to find.  The lady in charge then told us to go back on the ship??????  What a mess.

Breakaway to Bermuda by timviie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Here is what I enjoyed-

1- Ease of access to activities and services including beverage and food

2- variety of activities on sea says

3- if you have never been to Bermuda it is the friendliest and easiest place ot get around

4- food is very good

What I HATED- it seems that Norwegian is so focused on one guest at a time and making that one guest happy that they ignore what that one guest being happy does to the 100 people around that guest. So they make Mr Smith happy but then there are 50 people who are adversely affected. Kids in the pool, not being able to eat certain food at Tepanyaki due to other guests food allergies (there should be an allergy flat top so non allergy guests can get the full experience and menu)......just little things that add up along the trip.

starting with Elma who was great in booking us the cruise. Third time on the breakaway and it is a beautiful ship. Bartenders and our steward were great. We booked the vibe club. adults only and was worth it. Bermuda was beautiful and staying in port for 3 days was nice you got to do a lot. Power snorkeled which was fun and beaches were beautiful. It was a great trip.

Bermuda in May by amuniz1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Lucked out got great weather every single day . Ship was beautiful , but too many kids and difficult half the time to get a drink at the bar . Bartenders would skip right over my order . All three main dining rooms included in the package served the same food each night , which we did not like . Overall beautiful ship , over packed . Great food ! Both shows burn the floor and rock the ages - not very impressed . Rock the ages was like a strip show :/ some nice workers, some not so nice . Pool was always over packed.  I'd suggest an adults only area. Hot tubs had signs for adults only and kids filled them up everyday . 2.5/3 out of 5 .

So Disappointed by Nana69

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

May 1-8 on NCL Breakaway was a nightmare from beginning to end. Took a very long time to get boarding instructions, while waiting in line like cattle. Mini Suite was very small bed was on top on closet, and you had to walk sideways to pass front of bed. Room was run down and stained. Couldn't hear any announcements in our room. Food was equally horrific. On many nights we couldn't eat dinner. Things were so bad even the chef sent us a plate of fruit and chocolates. Although the thought was appreciated, the fruit was unedible. The buffet on deck 15 although plentiful, also not very tasty. Food was cold and they ran out of cups, coffee, and the soft serve usually wasn't working. The only two meals that were good were the French and Japanese. Debarkment was also a nightmare. We stood in line for hours, even though we showed up on our chosen time.  In case you care our room was 10192. First time on vacation we were so happy to be home.
