Review summary

The Breakaway is just too big with too many people.  Also, going out of NY gives it a full flavor of NY in it's passengers also.  Throw in a all you can drink promotion and you have a disaster.  A bunch of drunks on a classy ship doesn't work.  The first night we had a drunk lady in La Cucina and she caused a major scene, which the manager could not fix, and refused to ask her to leave.  Yelling, banging glassware and eventually the wine stand, cursing, she was a total A..hole.  The manager came over and apologized to basically everyone, but no free anything offered, just an apology.  Ruined a decent evening.

at 10:30PM at night.  I guess no one wants to dance before bedtime.  The parties all started after 10:30PM.

The disembarkation was a joke.  No announcements as to where to gather, or when, was not the way to run this operation.  We got downstairs, found ourselves in a big crowd, that finally started to move, and ended up finally leaving the ship, only to get downstairs on the dock to find out that the luggage was not yet available to find.  The lady in charge then told us to go back on the ship??????  What a mess.

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

You were not on a "classy" ship.  It is an "entry level"  to cruising ship so that the mass public can experience cruising.  But this is not a traditional cruise environment.  It is a cross between a sports bar and amusement park.  You were disenchanted with this ship because you did not realize this before your set sail.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't want to waste my time w/ someone looking for attention

One can only hope based on previous posts 😊

Ok thanks, I won't waste my time

brat81978    8 years ago

Don't waste ur time arguing with it. I've seen other threads where it's posted and it thrives on arguing and drama.

Your going to get more riff raft on a lower priced vacation than an expensive one. Nothing is 100% but if you go to a $100 a plate steak house or ihop, don't you think the majority of clientele will be a little different. If you don't understand that, then you don't understand basic social - economics

Getting a good deal on a cruise doesn't mean you are not classy. To me, it means you are smart. Honestly I think I'd have a good time on any cruise. Too bad complainers don't realize how lucky they are to even be on vacation. And then you have the people who think they're better because they spend more money on "classy" cruises. Please, go on those ships and stay off the ones that are affordable.

To lenni819... I don't think "classy" is synonymous with the amount of money you have or the amount if money you spend!!!!

Jimm8252 hate to break the news to ya but you weren't on a "classy" ship. You were on a ship that is one step above Carnival in terms of classy. I've been on over a dozen ships from all different lines and Breakaway is far from classy. A family of 4 can go on a 7 night trip with an ocean view cabin including the drink package and dine around package for about 3K. Your not exactly going to attract royalty at those prices.

Customs ppl had to physically go thru our bags. Now that we are aware of this, we'll definitely keep our bags with us because that was the only real bummer on our trip. I didn't witness any crazy drunken ppl although one of the crew told me some lady was in the atrium one night laying on the floor drunk breaking up with her boyfriend. Kinda sorry I missed it, it sounded hilarious.

My only complaint re disembark was that our butler/concierge in haven didn't properly explain it and we didn't realize to do the early walk off we had to take ALL our luggage with us. I thought it would be like an airport where u pick up luggage somewhere. We got thru customs really fast, but wound up waiting almost 3 hrs in the terminal before someone brought us back downstairs to get it, and the

Does jimm8252 think the all passengers were from NY? Just because ship leaves from NY doesn't mean they are all NYers. I was on cruise last Feb. and there were lots of passengers from other countries who were very rude.

I got back in April it was my second time on the ship.I never had a bad time met lots of fun people we had a great time. The staff was top notch for me and I got off the ship by 8:15 with my luggage you have to be on line by 7:30.Going back in August 😎

I really think people like this write these "reviews" just to get a reaction..don't give them the satisfaction. We all know what he's saying is hogwash & childish

kream36    8 years ago

Why isn't an apology enough these days....why does everyone expect free stuff all the time..

ckaplwn    8 years ago

There are too many people. Some are really rude. And disembarkation is a mess. The nice part is the Vibe area. I highly recommend it if you can get in.

bmac614    8 years ago

I don't get why people think if a passenger does something obnoxious, why they feel some compensation is necessary. Some people look to try to get anything for free. Crazy!!!

karcur5    8 years ago

Very offensive! I seriously doubt ALL the drunk people were New Yorkers.

cjohnsen22    8 years ago

So let me get this straight...being a New Yorker=obnoxiously drunk? That's just a little bit offensive!

Lovecruisingwithmyhubby    8 years ago

You should have read your daily letters. It gives you disembarkation times. Disembarkation was flawless both times I went. One drunk loud passenger does not mean others on the ship couldn't handle the free beverage package. I'm not sure what you wanted for free because most everything is free to begin with.

karcur5    8 years ago

What exactly do you mean by "full flavor of NY in it's passengers? I could be wrong, but it sounds like you don't care for New Yorkers
