This is a senior cruise of mainly 60-80 years old's. Deck 12 is where the action is playing games, and working puzzles.

Go to Rudi’s Sel De Mar. On nights with two shows in the World Stage, the earlier show would be very crowded, so arrive early to get a seat. Some people were sitting in the aisles. Alternatively go to the second show time and it’s about half full. Expect dining to take up half the night, very slow service at the restaurants. People said to eat at 5:00 as soon as they opened so you could see the other entertainment.

The Nieuw Statendam is a gorgeous ship. Be sure to explore the upper decks. The New York Deli and Grand Dutch are fantastic casual venues. The Apple Bacon Pannekoekk at Grand Dutch is divine!

There were very few children onboard. This is a positive or a negative, depending on your point of view. We have cruised HAL at Christmas and there were lots of kids.

If you like music and singers or bands at the pool. Or look forward to awesome deserts, then this ship is not for you. A very old and sleepy passengers are the norm.

We prefer a more energetic atmosphere. This cruise was really low energy, small, much older guests, tiny, extremely crowded pools. Choose this ship if you want a sedate atmosphere.

Fantastic staff, very safe and clean. Not overly crowded and well run ship. Captain O'Driscoll and Kimberly were an excellent team.

Pool near the back is less crowded. Stairs are an easy way to move around without waiting for elevators. A balcony room above a larger suite was good peace of mind for balcony safety.
